The second half was brilliant. The defence was brilliant. The subs were brilliant, even though Lingard screwed that chance. Even Mikhi looked like he had found his mojo in the second half before being subbed off. Am gonna go get wasted!!
Now that's the kind of post I like:lol:

What a fecking win. Perfect response after the Huddersfield game had everyone questioning the mentality. Over the moon for Young, that was an unreal performance.

Very good 2nd half performance from us. Very happy with Mourinho's tactics and game management.

Lingrad and Martial won us the game. Their extra energy and purpose in the final 20 mins gave us the edge.
Lingard? Saw absolutely nothing from him to suggest this, except for his woeful attempt on the counter. A few weak touches and lost the ball neddlessly as usual, didn’t have an impact for me. Wish Martial or Lukaku had gottem that chance, would have been 2-0 and no worries in the end.

Eh, it was 5 at the back today. Perhaps we were set up slightly less defensive than at Anfield, but the mentality was definitely safety first, and try to nick one.
But you can never question their attacking attitude today. You may question their attacking ability but certainly not their attitude. Jose obviously asked them to have a go at Spurs today and they did. The problem for me is the quality of our midfield. Until we have a better midfield, the team cannot produce the kind of football we want.

They weren't negative at all. They should have scored with the best pass of the game.

Oh, they were missing Kane but we're missing that French bloke
Lots of sideways passing and dwelling on the ball, that's negative for me even if they had more of the ball. That Eriksen pass for Alli was one of the few times they looked to get it forward quickly and had a bit of belief.

Positives:

DDG - His distribution was absolutely exceptional, including in the build up to the goal.
Defence - Very sound, apart from that one Dickhead Alli chance.
Young - Wound Spurs up all game, did well offensively and at the back
Matic - Did well despite being outnumbered
Playing 3 at the back - looks natural for our defenders and having this solidity in a big game is a huge positive and gives us an extra option

Negatives:

Herrera - Gave the ball away far too much. Unnecessary theatrics and has regressed a lot since last year.
Mickey - See above.
Lingard - He reminds me of the common housefly, buzzes around being annoying but easily swatted away.
This is excellent! Spot on description.

I think we're really missing Pogba in these kind of games, specifically when we're playing with 3 at the back. Our attacking play will improve with him back. This season we're bringing Fergie time back with a lot of goals in the last 10 minutes.

You chose a weird time to make that point.

We just beat our huge title rivals in a really intense game. Can't we enjoy that for a bit before we talk about City?
I did enjoy it mate - but if we're going to get back to anywhere near what we were under Fergie, we can't let the glow of victory blind us to the grim reality beneath it.

Week after week after week people keep forgeting something. Our coach is jose mourinho. We don't have klopp or pep who will play to score one goal more. We have coach who is playing on the win .
I saw today united which was not tested at all against one of the better teams in england( to be honest, besides city , for me spurs are best attacking team in england). And we won. It was not attractive win, after first half i thought it will finish 0.0 but again, we won. It is mourinho in big games.

About 352; in defence it is looking just great. I imagine in knockout round in CL we would play that. In attack with pogba, mikhi in better form and hopefully blind in defence it will be much better.
About lingard; stop playing that useless, untalented, "playing on safe" player on no10 position ffs. It was awful. No10 who avoids to to anything except running is insult to that position.
Score 1 goal more?

He'd be lucky not to concede 5 every match while playing this so called great football.

Pep's City are much more steely in defence than you think

All 3 pundits look gutted
They were loving the United bashing. The Jose needs to go coz of what Pep is doing at City, and his third season is coming early pundits are now left disappointed.

They probably had a eulogy written for it already. The amount of bad press we have received this week was unbelievable (although a lot of it was deserved after the last week)

Quite a cagey tactical battle I felt. Spurs edged the first half where our midfield was a bit overrun at times but never really translated their dominance in the middle into actual attacking threat.

Jose made some changes at half time and had Lukaku and Rashford alternate in closing down the wide spaces when we didnt have the ball. The Lingard sub worked well too and he was just overall better than Mkhi at closing down, making runs out wide and at generally making a nuisance of himself.

Ultimately it was a defensive error by a side who didn't really look like they believed in themselves enough to get a result here.

Haha I am at the moment, yeah.

Defensively we're up there with the best, offensively we're a mid-table team.
Scored 23 goals this season, second most in the league. Not mid table numbers. This time last year we'd scored 13. After all the 4-0s everyone was saying how good we looked in attack.

Poor performance????

I saw heart, grit, determination to battle for the badge. Minus the bad midfield display in the first half, the team played well. No bus parking. They attacked. We could have scored three in the second half.
Exactly. Spurs offered the square of feck all all game apart from that one Alli chance.

Did anyone else think Dembele should have been booked? He was reckless out there.

During the match I knew Spurs wouldn't score a goal against us. None threat to De Gea for 90+ minutes,
excepting Alli moment. Jose neutralized Spurs attack, so it wasn't dangerous at all. The whole team played great. They played aggressive and fast. Good passes, controlling opponent and pressing him during the whole match. All players were in a great fit. That was just great. Mourinho indeed knows how to beat Tottenham.

That's down to good positional ply from us, not negativity on their part. There's a massive difference. If they'd been negative we'd have won by a greater margin

During the week I said I'd be happy with a draw given how Spurs put Liverpool to the sword last week. 3 points keeps up moving forward. Not a hugely entertaining game though.

Hard fought win, it could easily have gone the other way but we dug deep. Massive 3 points.

Martial is becoming this team's super-sub Solskjaer
Was my thoughts too. Its uncanny, it's 4 goals in 4 substitute appearances I think they said, and his goals per minute must be crazy. I would like to see him get the consistency over 90minutes but the feeling of him coming on and scoring is hard to match in football.

First half put me into depression. These 3 points are huge. Saved the weekend.

I don’t understand what people were expecting? Spurs have one of the best defensive records in Europe over the last couple of years.

No one is going to pump them by 3 or 4 goals.

Knowing the state of our midfield at the moment, I.e injury state we have to be measured and professional. We cannot play that gung ho nonsense you’re all crying for.

If Fellaini is back next week, I’m confident we can sneak a result at SB.

I could watch our goal all night. Assist by Lukaku was excellent. Well done AM (@GifLord too) wasn't a gimme type chance. Also some great swearing in the huddle afterwards, too by Lukaku I think. He knows some very short words, quite refreshing. November type game. Shit weather, dogged Spurs stuff; they were immense in defence, having travelled north for the draw. Sorry, lads.

Massive win.

Why couldn't we play like that against a shite Liverpool side?

It's not an obsession mate. I just find it frustrating that our attacking play has all the subtlety and coherence of an Adam Sandler movie.

We aspire to be one of the world's biggest clubs yet we rely on a Wimbledon-esque punt downfield to score a goal. The fact that City are playing amazing football just across town is an obvious counterpoint.

But if you want to think United's critics are just Guardiola fanboys, then fine.
You are frustrated after this match.

Let's not kid ourselves. Spurs had no Kane. No Dembele. No Wanyama. And we played the entire match with three central defenders and two defensive midfielders in Herrera and Matic who are not creative - in that they won't rack you up assists - and they don't score.
I feel we got away with it today and have lost swagger. The horses are very much on the reins.
No Pogba for us. These 1-0 wins over a title rival are not to be sniffed at no matter how they come.

Under Ferguson we ground out important but right home wins versus Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs on numerous occasions while playing exactly like we did today.

What does Lukaku say to Martial after the celebration in the OP video? It's French I reckon?

Starts at the back. Excellent defensive performance against a very very good team. We've seen how fluid we can be in attack when Pogba is in the team and Mhiki is in form, neither of which has been the case for some time.

So that's a really important win.

It was a good and important win, but it really threw up question marks about Mkhitaryan and Herrera for me. Although a little outnumbered in midfield, they showed very little quality and composure on the ball. Had spurs no settled for 0:0 in the 2nd half, we would have struggled I think. I'm certain these two will be replaced for next season.
Really impressed by Young and Matic today.

I really enjoyed watching that game. Both teams missing key players however it was a decent game of football. You could tell the players weren't going to get beat on passion and desire. Absolutely massive 3 points. Let's hope we can bring the momentum into next week.

Can someone please tell me what the hell has happened to Herrera though? Absolute dog shit this season. Whenever he plays alongside Matic there is a massive lack of quality in the middle of the field. As soon as Pogba and Fellani are back I honestly can't see him getting a game bar other players getting injured.

On a positive note, what a performance by Young. If Shaw is scratching his head why he's not getting near the team, he need's to watch his performance and desire over and over again.

A well deserved great result. I dont know about the stat but we seemed to win the most of second balls today and fully in control. Cant wait until we can play with 3 midfielders again.
