If you could build one more statue outside OT, who will you choose?

No, but close. -2 :)
Just missed him so. I'm only 2 years older than you but started following United religiously in 1994. Cantona was God and in my opinion, only Ferguson played a bigger individual part in the success and prestige of both the modern era Manchester United and the Premier League.

He was the sort of superstar you can't quantify by just goals or statistics. He had an impact on this sport in England like that of Tiger Woods, Mohammed Ali or Michael Jordan on theirs in America. He just oozed star appeal in everything he did. For a club on the up and a new professional league in its infancy, he was absolute box office dynamite and at a time when Serie A was the top draw around the world, he was the headline act that began to turn the tide.

Exactly, also annoys me people who call players like Giggs/Scholes/Shearer overrated because they arn't old enough and only saw the back end of their career and judge their opinions based on that.

As a kid of the 90's myself, Cantona was the icon of English football in the 90's, kids often had their shirt out and collar up like Cantona when having a kick about, even kids who never even supported United.
I remember an argument amongst my friends over who would get to turn up their collar during a kick about after school one day, it never dawned on us we could all do it.

Cantona's a good shout!

Can't believe Ronaldo hasn't been mentioned yet, best ever United player in my lifetime and I've been a fan of a club since 92, will go down as one of the games top 4 greatest players ever players alongside Pele/Maradonna and Messi.

So we have to be proud as a club that one of the games true greats played here and inspired the club to a Champions League and won the Ballon d'Or whilst playing for United.
Not a chance. Great player who spent what seemed like half of his United career angling for a move to Madrid.

For a good reason. He should be nowhere even near this list.
What defines a 'legend' in your eyes?

I would be so proud if i was a Napoli/Barcelona fan to say "Maradona (one of the games true greats) played for my club" it doesn't matter which club people thought Maradona was best at and with that it doesn't matter which club people thought Ronaldo was at his best at (United or Madrid) when they look back on his career.

Fact of the matter is Ronaldo (one of the games true greats) played for United, inspired United to 2 Champions League finals, winning 1 and became the best player in the world whilst at United = made history playing here = a club legend.

I dont know why people buzz off Cantona so much (no offense). He was here for 5 seasons and apart from winning the double and league a few times he doesn't come close to the likes of Rooney, Neville, Giggs, Scholes. Good player but so over rated.
It can only be Cantona. He set the tone and was the catalyst for everything we have ever seen since 1992?!!!

 So much of our success over the last 30 years trails back to Eric. He was the catalyst that put the class of 92 on a path to glory. Of course Fergie was at the helm but Cantona was the genesis of that success. Those early PL titles - you can't look past Cantona.

It couldn't be more obvious that you weren't a United fan in the early 90s for you to so incredibly underestimate Cantona's influence.

There's a reason he's one of a tiny number of players who retired 20 or more years ago that still get songs sung about them.

Considering the player in question and the club he left Leeds for, your brother might not be entirely objective! ;)

Cantona was only here for five years. He was phenomenal but he doesn't deserve a permanent monument.

Giggs and Scholes were with us for 20.

He certainly wasn't Ronaldo or Bestie on the pitch. He was very talented and more than that he had that charisma and character which became the catalyst on the field and dressing room for our prolonged success. Prior to his United move, he won the League with Leeds, and we missed winning the League when he was suspended.

Cantona was the quintessential footballer, charm, personality, class, willing to jump in with a kung-fu kick when needed, great finisher. The man was amazing and I'd love him to get a statue.

Eric was far more than the sum of his parts.

A very very good player (not great), but the perfect fit for us at the time.

There should be a combined class of 92 statue. Flanked by Keane and Cantona. I still remember when Ronaldo was all pointless step-overs and many fans were calling for Park Ji-Sung to get the nod ahead of him.

Eric, without a shadow of a doubt. The only footballer I ever wanted to be. A Jedi Knight, The Terminator or Eric Cantona.

I'd go with Cantona as my pick. His arrival was the catalyst for us becoming the serial winners we'd eventually become. All the players he played alongside and Sir Alex absolutely rave about his influence to the team. Plus he'd make an incredible statue.

The class of 92 are extremely important, but it just doesn't sit right with me that Nicky Butt and Phil Neville would be immortalized. It's disrespectful to Roy Keane and Denis Irwin for that matter and I share Keane's opinion that the brand Class of 92 has clouded peoples judgement. In the documentary they released there was the ludicrous line that "Keane being suspended for the final was God's way of showing the world how good Nicky Butt was". Giggs and Scholes definitely deserve a statue, but not all of them.

Rooney deserves one as well based off what he achieved here. It's unfortunate his reputation has been tarnished. He'll probably get one in 20 years when all is forgiven.

Harry Stafford and his St. Bernard’s dog comes to mind. If it were not for that dog, Manchester United probably would never have existed

football at times is much more than just honors and stats.
Cantona had a much bigger impact on the psyche of United in particular and English Premier League in general.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
No, better. He wasn't close to the likes of Del Piero, Ronaldo or Batistuta. Just my view like I said no offense :D
Better how? Because Shearer scored more goals? If you like plain numbers fine, your call.

There's no doubting Shearer was a very good centre forward but there's also a reason most United fans (and most football fans) STILL recognise Cantona as not only an excellent player but someone who was more than stats. For our club, he was the catalyst that kicked our huge run of success off, an inspiration to the younger players (as they themselves have said) and had that je ne sais quoi.

I've never supported United for the trophies. I'd rather watch Cantona's Sunderland goal or flick for Irwin or running while keeping the ball up..... than any Shearer goal.

Class of 92 or nobody.

But I guess that it will be that poor man who used to be a great footballer, but fecked the wife of his brother between those games...
