Some call him old fashioned, some say he is finished and for sure I can't deny he made some awful decisions specially when we are chasing results, but saying he is finished or his football is old is a bit daft tbf.

Opinions?

I don’t want rid of him, but I definitely think if he’s to be a success here he really needs to drastically change his approach or he’ll eventually lose the players and be sacked.

There’s lots of managers out there. I for one personally think Pochettino would be great. I’d also thinks Giggs would get more passion.

There are no other managers available, worldwide. All of the other credible managers have vaporized, we are without hope.

Given the remote possibility of him drastically changing his approach, you might as well get in the Jose out camp.

Are you watching closely?
I want a manager who knows how to get the best out of his players, and how to get them to play like a team, with passion and desire. Mourinho evidently does not know this anymore. He just keeps trying the same things over and over and expecting different results.

I can't find any name around can set us up as continuous league contenders or even top four ones! I think he is the best manager out there to do the business.

some one who gives the impression he cares and can actually motivate the very good players we spend a fortune on to actually perform. Allardyce would do as well as any one post SAF

I agree and he will have to change and do it fast. But I don't think he will.

Clearer tactics. Crossing from wide positions? I'm not sure what and why. One more thing I'm not so sure about is why we bought another LW if we already have two young players that really can't play as RW. Ashley Young - not a left back. Smalling and Jones? Worst Cb partnership ever. Just play one left footed cb - Rojo or Blind or idk. Better give a chance to Lindelöf if we know it doesn't work. Mata is too slow for wide positions. Pogba needs to step up. We need more from Matić. We need better delivery from our number 10 and I'm not sure Lingard is capable of doing a poetry for our attack. What gives me pain the most are just tactics that aren't visible in games when we play away or against smaller opponents. Also park the bus - not an option for United. We are too far away from the way City, Bayern, PSG, Barca, Madrids and Juve play. For the fifth consecutive year. Someone has to react. Play for the crest not for your name.

He will get one more transfer window and he must get it right. If he still persist with average players like young and fellaini and cannot teach his players to attack then time is running down for him.

Basically - he needs to change if he wants to improve. Doing what he's been doing hasn't been good enough. Who would we bring in if he did leave? I don't know, it's Manchester United and we have a very good squad right now. There wouldn't be a shortage of offers. But it has to be somebody who likes to play attacking football and approaches games positively. Hell I'd probably strongly consider Ancelotti, despite his own struggles in the league. There are other options of course, some would be bigger risks then others, but the way it's going, I wouldn't expect Mourinho to last past the end of next season. We'll see I guess.

Take your pick from La Liga, most of them know how to coach a team and would do wonders with the budget Manchester United can offer. Pochettino wasn't exactly known as a genius in La Liga. Had Espanyol in the relegation zone before he got sacked. Valverde after Barca would be a great choice, don't think he'll stay there for more than 3 seasons anyway.

I am not calling for his head but we should be doing much better . No, being second is not a testament to what he is doing. I believe its more because of the inconsistencies with other teams that are fighting for top 4 that has put us in second.

fecking Shelvey and Diame schooled us today- definitely something to think about. We are not getting enough from our players

I can only say that I change my mind back and forth like I change underwear on Mourinho.

He needs to get more from his players and make them play like a team. And if not Mourinho, then who? I know people can make a nice list of names but I'm not convinced by who can step in and take us up a level.

Jose should get one more year, I’m worried he’s to stubborn to change anything tactical though. The formation doest suit the team, it doesn’t get the best out of our players, I hope he changes it because we aren’t winning a major trophy playing this 4231 shit with Lingard through the middle whilst Pogba and Matic play in a 2 man midfield.

How can he have watched the Spurs game 2 weeks ago and thought you know what I’ll play Jones, Smalling and Young again? Fecking awful defence. His £35m signing (Lindelof) isn’t getting a game that in itself is worrying.

When we go behind in a game I don't want to feel that the match is over, that the best we can get is a draw. I want a manager who when plan a isn't working has an effective way of changing the game up, not just lumping long balls forward to a tall player.

I'm not calling for his head but things need to change drastically.

So we are to assume daily? ;)

It is a very good point though, anyone else would be a punt. Although, maybe a punt is what we need. Mourinho is capable of great things we just need him to figure it out quickly, hopefully he can.

I agree with the other posters. Our current manager needs to adapt. He is still sticking to his pragmatic style of football. Just go all out and fecking hammer teams. If we lose fine, at least we tried. But if we keep playing attacking football it will get better and better and we will in future win far more than we do with this "coward"-style.

If he refuses to change style, he better bring trophies (like last season), but God bless him if he doesnt win trophies. The fans will be on his back, including me. And rightfully.

Not happening.

Personally, I would love to try some fresh minds (attacking oriented) and brave but bold choice as I'm sick and tired of us going for 'proven' quality that are past their date of use. Would make it far more exciting and maybe would liven up the grim state of our club on all levels.

Bristol City manager showed the real promise and the way they fared both against us and City was very impressive by actually playing football.

He's won nothing, should be nowhere near the United job.
LVG sure has won a lot of trophies, look how that turned out for us.

Zidane was struggling in Madrid B, never had a serious managerial gig, never won a trophy before Madrid as a manager and look how that turned out.

Jose is clearly not the manager that he once was he has 1 league tittle in his last 6 seasons as a manager, there is no fear factor from the smaller teams now, his sides use to be difficult to beat in the big games (not anymore). One thing you use to be guaranteed with one of his teams was a solid defence he's been at Utd for nearly two seasons now and is still playing 2 wingers as full backs and doesn't know his best centre back pairing. He's spent a lot of money and I am not sure that you really say any of his signings have been a unqualified success and I am not sure that he has particularly improved any of the players already at the club. The question is how much more money do you give him before you expect to be at the very least challenging for the title.

As for who to replace him with I think that Ancelotti is the perfect man for United, but there are a number of candidates who I think could get more out of the team such as Sarri, Simeone or Enrique.

Spot on.

Or, just give it to Giggsy until the end of the season.
I like to think Woodward has a massive comical "give it Giggsy 'till the end of the season" button on his desk in his office.

Poch may be a risk as he hasn’t won anything yet but his commitment to investing in youth, attacking and creative football and intensity in big games is everything a Man Utd manager should have. I would love it if we got him in.

Regrettably I agree with you. I think Jose is too stubborn to make a big enough change to his approach to have us catch city. I genuinely believe as it stands the only chance we have of a title challenge next season depends on city not being able to keep playing at this level.

I still want Mou to do well here and be successful. But, it's imperative that we need an identity when we play. I'd accept scrappy wins for a while if it gets us a few cups, but would want Poch here if we archive neither.

It’s obvious he would win or at least challenge with a club like United, trophies isn’t everything it’s clear as day how good of a manager he is.

Nobodies giving any answers for fear of being shut down I think, but i'll give some;

Thomas Tuchel -

PRO's
  • Plays very attractive football, winning football
  • Teams play well together as a cohesive unit
  • Gets best out of players that aren't necessarily 'World Class'
  • Brilliant recorded work with young players and getting the best out of them, particularly attacking ones
  • Great and respectable finishes with Mainz, a club limited by a very poor squad and little to no money.
  • Would of won Dortmund the league in 1st season if not for a mesmerising Bayern campaign, Lost Pokal only on penalties
  • 2nd season won the Pokal after beating Bayern in the semi's
  • Only 44, time to learn, grow, and settle in a long term appointment
NEG's
  • Perhaps a little naive defensively at Dortmund sometimes, something he would need to iron out of his game, if he hasn't already done so during his time off
  • Can be a little argumentative or combatative, but then his sacking was because he was angry at the selling of Hummels, Gundogan and Mkhitaryan despite him being promise they wouldn't all leave
  • Perhaps hasn't won enough to be a contender in some people's eyes
He also tried to replace some of the big name players at the club due to their ageing and average performances but Watzke didn't like this and so Tuchel's relationship with said players and Watzke fractured, leading to his sacking, he also wasn't allowed to sign the players he wanted, having numerous transfers blocked by Watzke and chief scout at the time Sven Mslintat, now at Arsenal.

Leonardo Jardim

PRO's

  • Also plays attractive, winning football
  • Does very well against teams like PSG with unlimited resources
  • Gets the best out of the players he has on the squad
  • Perhaps even better than Tuchel at utilising young players, as evidenced by his league win last year with one of the youngest and most exciting attacking squads seen
  • Good CL runs with this squad
  • Still having a respectable league run, in 2nd, against PSG and other teams, despite selling of players like Bernardo Silva, Mbappe and Bakayoko
  • Only 44, like Tuchel, plenty of time to learn, grow and settle into a long term appointment
NEG's

  • Perhaps also hasn't won enough to be a candidate in some peoples eyes.

This is leaving out the likes of Sarri etc.

Not sure what else I can say, for me, this brand of manager represents a brand of football I know that every supporter of Manchester United would relish watching, we might not win every match, but at least we won't cower against the supposed 'big boys', and it's not like we are winning every match serving up the dross we are currently seeing either is it? With the squad we have, the young attacking talent we have, we should be taking a punt on what I would consider a classic Manchester United manager and would embody everything that made us so successful as a club to begin with.

I know people will say well they've won nothing, we shouldn't be recruiting people that have won nothing, well recruiting managers that have won loads doesn't seem to have the desired effect either, and I don't count Moyes, because he clearly wasn't a good enough manager for us prior to his appointment. We should be giving these managers the chance, they are the future of football, in a more modern direction that, to be honest, seems to have eluded Mourinho completely.

I do too, that’s why I’m not going to say anything. It’s not a godgiven right to win every season even if money is spent. Mourinho truly is a risk adverse dinosaur, but amongst those he is still the very best. I want to be entertained though, I feel many of our players would thrive in other teams. I also fear that many of our players are thinking of a way out.... most likely Martial and Pogba. DDG probably feels like he cannot wait any longer now that he’s given us seven years and find us so many points behind City.
