This is how I see it. If both clubs substitutes players, we'd be asking for Martial, Lukaku and Sanchez. Grass looking greener and all that.
I'm not convinced Salah, Mane and Firminho would look anywhere near has good if the were playing here.
We have some quality attackers. I have no doubt about it.
And yet it doesn't go the other way about the quality of our defenders Who get nowhere near the same amount of protection.

Surely you jest? There are a good handful of players that could easily seam into Liverpool’s starting XI.

De Gea

TAA VVD Bailey Robertson

Pogba Can

Salah Sanchez Mane

Firmino

You could even make a case for a fully fit Herrera and Shaw. Also depending on how you wanted to play you could swap Pogba and Sanchez and replace Sanchez with Milner for a more engine in the midfield. Unfortunately I wouldn’t have Mourinho as the manager. Klopp for me would get the best out of the players and would be a very entertaining team to watch.
I think Pogba would get his place on reputation only.
Herrera from 2 years ago would Have a chance, certainly not in this year's form.

Remaining 10 games.

(March)
Crystal Palace
Liverpool
West Ham
Swansea

(April)
MCity
West Brom
Bournemouth
Arsenal

(May)
Brighton
Watford
With that calendar, we could say that the 2nd place will be perfect. But the team plays CL and FA Cup, and winning those titles is better than a second place. Taking into account that the 3rd and 4th also classify CL without prior.

2nd, 3rd, 4th, does it really matter these days? If the ultimate aim is to qualify for CL football?
I’d argue that finishing 2nd would help us gain more consistency and traction going into next season.

Also more money for finishing 2nd and bragging rights over the scousers

We are in a battle for 4th with Chelsea. We aren't better than them and the gap could be just 3 points this weekend.

The battle is for fourth we have no chance of finishing second. This is a team going nowhere, 4th/5th is a fair reflection of this team and manager.

We don't deserve 2nd. We really don't. Spurs and Liverpool may have their faults but at least they're playing good football and look like they have a plan in away games.

Anybody on here who still wants Mourinho at the helm, I have nothing more to discuss with you...

We're gonna finish behind Liverpool 2 seasons in a row. That too after being ahead of them most of this season.

Does it really matter if we both finish 20 plus points behind City?
Of course it does. It means we're doing a shittier job than them, despite spending more money than them, having finished ahead of them in both of Van Gaals seasons. Tells you we're not making anywhere near as much progress as other clubs with less resources.

So if we finish ahead of them by a point?

I think we have issues. Liverpool finishing ahead or behind us doesn't change that.

Don't bother mate, got to be positive nowadays regardless of the shit being served up. Finally we've made our transition into Liverpool since the 90s, shit football and not allowed to talk about it. Then again football is a results business apparently and nothing to do with entertainment.

Masks over how shit we've been? Like the Europa league win last season. The fact is the level of the team, despite the amount of investment and resources has been nowhere near acceptable.

Liverpool - a club with less resources, money and investment finishing ahead of us is another piece of evidence the players aren't the problem. There are those here who think Guardiola is only destroying the league because he's spending more than us - what's our excuse then for not even managing to squeak ahead of Klopp & Liverpool?

Well they do have Henderson and Chamberlain in midfield to be fair.

So it doesn't matter whether we finish 2nd or not then?

Not what you were saying earlier.

i don't understand what the feck people are saying, we are fecking 2nd, it's not luck. we are 2nd and not playing very well, imagine when we click. Jose has had 1 and a half season only, let the man work people!

I will fully admit I've lost hope in Jose many games ago but you make a good point about our position. Sadly I care more about the level of football being played than where we finish in the league (if your not first your last and all that). I really hope I'm wrong and we do 'click', not seeing it at all to suggest we can though. Honestly I like Jose's character but I'm just very unsure if he can bring the great attacking football, affiliated with United back to Old Trafford.

It really doesn't mater after tonight because we're in the CL next season. Next Saturday is for pride and after that it's on to the CL and the FA cup. Don't really care about the City game

We have finished 7th, 4th, 5th and 6th over the last 4 years.

Seems everyone has forgotten.

I've not been entirely happy with Jose. But they are signs of some improvement. Also signs that more work is needed.

I truly believe he will, once he has, his team we will click. we're missing an RW and Sanchez hasn't developed the understanding he needs with his teamates, he's been here a month only. just look at the game today, our attacking player should be doing way better. they lost the ball a disgraceful amount of times. he doesn't have to coach them how to pass.

it's not fair to judge him now, especially against pep as his rebuilds wasn't as big as Jose and he had way more fund till now. let the man have his summer window and judge him next year. if he doesn't deliver then, we can think about a change of direction.

For the second season running, we beat Palace with a winner in the last minutes. Brilliant. Dave was immense and a shout-out to Bosskaku for keeping his cool when everyone was about to start ranting (definitely me...).

Table says different. If were ahead of a team "were not better than xyz" if were behind a team in the table "well they are ahead of us so they are better no argument"

The battle is for fourth we have no chance of finishing second. This is a team going nowhere, 4th/5th is a fair reflection of this team and manager.
do the fact that we have been at the top and 2nd for all of the season is not a fair reflection then? Bollox

We don't deserve 2nd. We really don't. Spurs and Liverpool may have their faults but at least they're playing good football and look like they have a plan in away games.
we don't deserve second because despite playing the same teams as everyone else and remained 2nd for almost all of it somehow we don't deserve 2nd but other teams who have not been 2nd deserve it?? Yeah makes perfect sense.

I hope not. Hopefully, we can put them away at OT and get a cushion.

play like that at the weekend and we will be embarrassed

we seem to be at our best when chasing games - when 1 nil down at Chelsea/2 nil tonight we improved drastically

still a win like that gives a lot of belief and hopefully something to take into the weekend

lets hope Mata and Martial start as Sanchez needs benched and Juan has the composure to cope with the game - McTominay was out of his depth tonight

Why the sarcasm? Cos we came back from 2 down against Palac? I don’t feel stupid or reactionary about my post, I’ve felt this way for a while. Far too negative, far too reactive, this result doesn’t hide the fact the team were dire and have been for a significant portion of this season.

There was nothing negative about our play today, we dominated and conceded an absolute fluke goal via a freak deflection and the usual brain fart by smalling. To come back from 2-0 down like that and get 3 is NOT fecking negative.
United, the only team that can score 4 goals and be called negative or score 3 goals and come back and win and be negative or 2 goals and come back and win and be negative. Utter bollox.

You say it as if it’s common, how many times over this season and last season have we come from 2-0 down to win. No complaints with the 4 goal games but they dropped off pretty quickly after the opening few games.

It’s called negative because the piss poor play puts us in a position (alliteration not intended lol) where we go a goal down instead of being the ones to set the pace. Once you go a goal down of course you have to play positively, how the hell are you gonna get anything out the game then?

We’re a reactive team, when the players “should” be good enough to be proactive. My reaction would not be like this if it weren’t for the fact it’s pretty much been the same script most weeks since the City loss early in the season.

Though top 4 is probably within reach, I struggle to see us finishing second, and the reality is with the investment in the club we should at the very least be playing better football, if not mounting a title challenge.

That's probably because we have rarely been 2-0 down at any point including last season. We usually score first and when we do we win. We really need to crush the fecking cnuts at OT next.
