Our tactic to play with only one midfielder is not working at the moment...

Reading the comments here you'll think we hadn't just had wins over Chelsea and Liverpool in last 2 weeks.

We should both go out, fcukin embarrassment to the champions league, this is about as exciting as watching leaves fall off a tree. Manchester United's reputation as an elite club is going down the drain with year after year of this dross. IF we manage to scrape through every team is going to want to draw us as we will most certainly be the weakest team left, we are certainly the least inspiring team.
Calm down, we will wake up. Just need a few proactive subs. Pogba and Mata on will be a boon.

The state of this thread.

You can see what Mourinho is trying to do here. We look overrun in midfield because we're bypassing it. We are winning headers and second balls everytime we send a long ball into their half (specifically to Fellaini who's been clearly asked to stay forward), and someone like Sanchez/Lingard is running at their box. We haven't scored, however, despite creating good chances, and I wonder at what point will Mourinho say, I gotta change things.

We could have had luck with that Lukaku chance, or the Fellaini chance. I think our set pieces have been poor though. We should be doing better.

Fellaini will not be able to do the little tracking back he's doing now 20 minutes into the second half. I guess that's when Pogba will come on.
What good chances have we created? One shot by Fellaini.

Some of you lot have thrown your expectations down the drain. People are complaining because both sides have been an embarrassment.

Garbage. Is Sanchez the new Mkhi? Constantly shit and constantly in the team.

Take him off. It'll probably get a bigger cheer than any of the football

All part of the bigger plan girls and boys. Jose is trying to make sure everyone wants us in next round, so we can win easy. Please, someone tell him we have to win this one...

Match day thread gets criticised for being too negative...I’m going to stick my head in the sand and say we’ve been fantastic, excellent with the ball and in control without it. In fact I can’t remember ever seening Utd play this well!!
    Completely agree.

Matic and Fellaini in a midfield 2 is a joke in Europe lets be honest.

They desperately need a playmaker in there to help them out, it just doesn't work. Neither of them want to pass or bring the ball forward themselves.

Don't get the negativity here. They have created nothing and have been hanging on at times. Can't wait for the second half.

What the hell is the deal with Sanchez? I've been defending him ever since he got here but he has been loosing the ball at Martial rate levels so far.
If Martial produced these performances he'd be crucified. He wouldn't come out in the second half.

The state of thread is the absolutely appropriate given the state of the football.

Are you saying this half was part of a plan?

We've had 1 shot on target. Doesn't matter what we've done so far when that's the case.

We'll be comfortably beaten in the last 8 if we make it. Sevilla are just slightly better than us but still rubbish too
Good on you for still having emotions about this game after that half. I'm so bored that I'm at the point of not caring if we progress or not.
Ha! Wish i could do that tbh. Reminds me of Moyes days and parts of LVG days when I lied to myself that I wasn't going to be arsed anymore. I always found myself breaking my promise to myself and I found myself always coming back.

We have literally lost at least half the headers that have been thrown up. Someone put a stat up with Fellaini having an aerial duel win rate of 40%.

Scholes and Ferdinand quite scathing there.
Scholes because mourinho has gone after him in his press conferences, Ferdinand is always a moaner. I guess they must get some extra money to play this role of united being poorer than they are. United being poor always sells more than united being deecent/great/ amazing.

    Jose is so frustrating.

Reverts to 4-2-3-1 when we have been playing better with 4-3-3.

Rashford shifted to right when he has been great on the left.

Why are we accommodating Sanchez for the rest of the front line when he has been dog shit since he joined.

Lingard is having to pick up the ball behind the halfway line to get the ball.
This is 4-3-3! Why do you think people are complaining Matić is sitting back?

Sanchez getting a bit too much stick. He's always given the ball away a lot, because he plays a high risk game and is always trying to make things happen. He hasn't quite clicked with the team yet, but he's the only one trying to push the team up to press higher, and his work rate has been first class. Not his fault there is no team chemistry.

Both teams been pretty poor imo. We have a very strong bench though, but I wonder if it will be enough since we’re not exactly testing them with our lack of intensity. That said we can play better than this, surely?:nervous:

I think Jose just wants to get out of CL and focus more in the league. Thant lofty 2nd place is still up for grasp.

100% true. Jose has crucified Mkhi and Martial for WAY less. Just because he's "Sanchez" he gets away with it. Same like he never subbed Ibra, it's just strange that certain people are immune.

That was quite average to say the least,we have to improve substantially if we want to win this game...Fellaini off,Pogba on...

Looking at the team tonight you wouldn't either.
This is exactly the same team as Liverpool one except for Fellaini and Lingard.

Seville were never going to be an easy walk despite their league form. They would always put 200% of their efforts in a KO. Anyone expecting otherwise is his problem.

Me too! Not overly biased towards us and always looking to make at least a funny comment. The football has been dire to be honest.
Think because he sacked off Liverpool for Real and was a success I don't really class him as full Scouse...

    ...until he opens his mouth.

It is not the system, and not really the players. It is all in the approach to the game.
That's all part of the system... When people say the system, it's talking the tactics, the playstyle, approach to the game, whatever.

Mourinho's essentially trying to counter attack a team here who hasn't come to control and attack much. Like they keep the ball and go forward now and then, but they're perfectly content to keep it at 0-0. It's on us to take control and take the game to them and hammer them. Which we can. And should.

I hope they score in the hopes it lights a fire under our arses.
No way. I don't know if United is capable of scoring two goals. Plus the spanish time wasting would be unbearable.

Or they're just unhappy with the football. Albeit Scholes does tend to be a bit miserable when discussing us.

Is Sanchez another fantastic player who has turned to shit overnight since joining us? Or is it symptomatic of our terrible style of football?

We will score 1st in 2nd half then same folk will come out with "Drama queens", "This is why X person plays" all standard crap and guess we will then switch into defending for our lives coward style mode just to scrape it.

I'd agree with that. Sevilla have tried to play football but their finishing has been woeful in both ties. We've just looked really laboured and disinterested so far. Luckily I don't think Sevilla really have the quality to break us down though, so all we need is 1 goal to get us through.
