Liverpool might be scoring a lot of goals, but they still haven't anything since 2012. And we might be playing the worst football, but we have won 3 trophies since Ferguson has left. Five points above them and still have a chance to win a trophy this season. What would you rather have, good football without trophies or boring football with trophies and better league position?
Sick of hearing this rolled out as an argument to playing lifeless football.

Maybe I just forget too quickly, but are we more boring now than under LvG or Moyesy?
Moyes' season wasn't extremely boring, because there was always fresh misery and records being broken.

LVG's second season was slightly worse than this. Only slightly. Because under him, 2 attempts on goal during 90 minutes was the norm. We've usually had more than that under Mourinho.

Horrible weather, boring game, but a fairly comfortable win to see out a week that started well, then got to way too overhyped "woe is us" levels midweek.

Glad there's a 2 week break now.

Hope Chelsea go out to Leicester tomorrow, which must be a possibility, as surely Leicester won't field a pony lineup like in the other cup.

If Chelsea do go through though, please let them have a carve up with Tottenham, while we have Wigan or Southampton!

Difficult conditions first half and we looked very low on confidence after the shock midweek. Was a tedious watch, almost lvg level but happy to win. We look less of a threat without Pogba. Get him in a free role with 2 holding behind him and start creating more.

To be honest I hope the club is looking/sounding out candidates.
The problem is I don't see us going anywhere chopping and changing managers. And whoever comes in, say somebody like Jardim or Sarri (doubt it but hypothetically) would need time to get their principles in.

On the other hand I don't see where we are going with Jose. Earlier in the year we saw a functional well drilled team, somehow getting their nose in front with a goal and then blitzing teams on the counter in the last few minutes. That was taken care of with the 0-0 against Liverpool after which we struggled.
Again with some potential confidence building wins against Chelsea/ Crystal palace and Liverpool only to be followed by that disaster of a show of cowardice against Sevilla and we are fast going nowhere. Definite signs of going backwards with our football. It might absolutely be a confidence issue but if games like Sevilla knock us back then Mourinho is not going to take us anywhere given that's his way of doing things.

The confidence completely sucked out of the players. Even Lingard doesn't look his usual happy self. They were just going through the motions imo.
Really sad actually.
Jose needed to have handled things better. I'm praying we win those 5 games we need to stay in the top four. There wasn't anything to inspire fans from that performance:(
Don't make up the narrative. It was cold, it was ugly, they just needed to get the job done. Ok I don't like that job done thing either but you want to believe they're unhappy cause of Jose or whatever.

Hopefully we get the winner of Wigan/Soton in the semis and then do a Mourinho final vs Chelsea/Spurs.

There were some real anti-burgeois passages of play being performed tonight, so yes, the players have a real problem with the capitalist system of the modern world.
They do seem to reject the rationality of the modern capitalist football and experiment with the surreal.

I thought that in patches we passed the ball pretty well - better than in a fair number of games this season, tbh.

Wednesday was very poor, not surprised at the fall-off in confidence.

in this 4-2-3-1 i do think the 2 are basically DMs - that's how Jose likes to play, Matic has a bit more to him than that though

LVG's second season was the peak of boredom. We must have had 15 or so home games 0-0 at half time with barely an incident, with surely a record level of 0-0 finishes.
We had loads of the ball, but were so laboured, as if the players were scared to death of losing it.

We do have a better squad now though.

Seriously though.. I know what it's like playing in freezing conditions. You're trying to keep warm by constantly moving, your feet are wet and cold, the pitch is slippery, ball doesn't want to stick to your feet and it's hard as a rock.

Actually, the crosses for the goals taking this into account are impressive. What is less impressive is that we can only create chances by crossing the ball.

We won, that's good though.

Mourinho:

Didn't like the reaction from mid-week.

Not happy with the performance or the players attitude. Some trying, others not.

Mourinho "not happy with the performance, happy with the result", " didn't see the reaction I wanted from most of the players".

Ripping into the players in his post match interview.

Something tells me the players will have had a rough few days since Tuesday. Still seems to be fuming.

It's 3:15 am here and am awake, will do so after this as well, we are 2nd in the league, a game to play. Ok Jose messed up against Sevilla but we are having a good season. I avoided the caf after our defeat midweek but I shall avoid it until both City and Liverpool are out of the CL. feck's sake, too many negative posts.
Potentially trophyless and being 2nd is not a good season. It’s progress from the last couple of years but not a good season for this club.

Jose is right to be angry. The performance was poor but the result good.

If you're content it's "job done".

If you're disgruntled it's everything wrong with us at the minute.

Jose really laying into the players in the post-match interview. Saying of the players on the pitch, only 6 of them wanted to play and have the ball in dangerous positions.

Accuses the attackers of hiding behind defenders and not making any attacking moves or taking responsibility to attack.

"Matic was an island surrounded by a lack of personality, a lack of class".

Scathing.

Mourinho telling it as it is and calling the players out now.. He's obviously not going to be taking the rap for the shit performances anymore. There's going to be a major shakeup next season!

Bit of another post match rant!

Jose saying what some of us have been saying about certain players.

Lack of desire, lack of intelligence, lack of quality, cowardly, playing safe square passes.....

He is disgusted with them.

Glad he has finally come out and said it, some of them shouldnt be there and hes had enough.

This Mourinho interview has given me hope.

He knows what we need to be doing and it seems he has been working on it in the training ground, for some reason it just isn't happening at the moment.

So you'd rather see your team play boring football for 4, 5 years or what then win trophies?
If we play this way, yes. Football is about enjoyment. If there's no enjoyment there's no point.

But I don't buy the premise. I believe we'd win much more if we played more attacking.

McTominay scores 10/10 for personality but 0/10 for quality!

He's not wrong. Good on him. I have respect for a manager who doesn't try to bullshit us.

Woah passionate post-match comments from José.

"Lack of personality, lack of class, lack of desire."

He's depressed me and I'm nowhere near him. I'm almost sure he's irritated the lot of the players. If you still think Jose's the greatest thing then fine, but what I wrote is what I feel exactly. Not making up anything.

No holding back from Jose there. He’s absolutely right, but is he gonna lose the dressing room here? Don’t know how he approaches it now.
