If I were Ronaldo's PR manager I would pretend the same based on a trophy which Ronaldo's team won without him:

National team goals vs. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain:

18 Messi
13 Suarez
12 Neymar
1 C. Ronaldo
Ronaldo has played against those teams 23 times.
Okay, let's break it down:
Messi:

vs Brazil: played 9, 4 goals (all in friendlies, 0 in competitive matches)
vs Chile: played 7, 3 goals
vs Colombia: played 8, 3 goals
vs Uruguay: played 8, 3 goals
vs England: (never played)
vs France: played 1, 1 goal (in a friendly)
vs Germany: played 4, 1 goal (in a friendly)
vs Italy: (never played)
vs Spain: played 3, 2 goals (both in friendlies)
---
vs Sweden: played 1, 0 goal
vs Netherlands: played 2, 0 goal
vs Belgium: played 1, 0 goal
vs Portual: played 2, 1 goal (in a friendly)

Ronaldo:

vs Brazil: played 3, 0 goal
vs Chile: played 1, 0 goal
vs Colombia: (never played)
vs Uruguay: (never played)
vs England: played 3, 0 goal
vs France: played 4, 0 goal
vs Germany: played 4, 0 goal
vs Italy: played 2, 0 goal
vs Spain: played 3, 0 goal
---
vs Sweden: played 6, 5 goals (1 friendly)
vs Netherlands: played 4, 4 goals (1 friendly)
vs Belgium: played 2, 3 goals (1 friendly)
vs Argentina: played 2, 1 goal (in a friendly)

Clearly your inclusion of Chile, Colombia and Uruguay was just a very poor attempt at manipulating the data, Ronaldo has played a grand total of ONE game against them whilst Messi has played 23 times.

I could do a similar list with Sweden, Netherlands and Belgium included. :smirk:

LeBron hasn’t won it because he hasn’t been the best player during the regular season. Westbrook won it last year, did his team have the best record?

LeBron is considered the better because in the playoffs he stops coasting and he raises his game.
Westbrook won it because he was the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple double for an entire season, that was such a rarity they had to give it to him. But NOBODY last year despite all the triple doubles felt Westbrook was the best player in the NBA. He just had the most impressive season but that doesn’t mean he’s the best player in the world. Not many GM’s would have taken Westbrook or even James Harden over LeBron.

Lebron coasts during the regular season? Jeez you and I have such different opinions. Bet you like your steak well done
This season, not really. He definitely has in previous years. And well done steak is a crime against humanity so we have something in common :D

Im going to attempt harmony from now on here and just share the best bits of both.

Which do people prefer out of these two? This is two moves that I don't believe the other has ever demonstrated that they are capable of in their career. Ronaldo definitely hasn't pulled off a move like that and I don't think i've even see Messi attempt a heel chop.

not in the final he wasn't. And they would have exited the group stage with the previous rules. So to act like him getting out of it is impressive is laughable.
The rules were changed well in advance of the tournament, so Portugal did what they had to, to get out of the group stage.

Yeah the international thing is a red herring. The quality of teams Portugal face is much worse than that of Argentina.

Uefa teams also don't get 5 places for 10 teams in a group.

@Cal?

I think for the purposes of the stats, don’t look at Brazil Argentina as ever being a friendly game. That 4-3 to Argentina game was one of the beet games of international football this decade, any goals in those from any player shouldn’t be discounted IMO.

Keep in mind he was 19 while Messi...
Hmm. Losing to a quality team like Chile or losing to Greece?

I know this is now petty point scoring but feck me if we're actually ripping Messi for losing to Chile while excusing Portugal losing to Greece then I'm done.

The quality team who failed to qualify for the WC 1 year on, finishing behind Peru?

or the team who made it to Euro final beating France and Czech Republic on the away?

I just presented the data as they were. However, that's not the main point, the main point is that @Cait Sith selected a group of countries to manipulate the data in favor of Messi.

He was at home while Messi was playing the World Championship final.
Just shows he has emotions while Messi is mentaly weak, keep in mind after this regretable moment your Superman started crying he was going to leave the NT. Cristiano never surrenders.

Care to explain how many finals Chile had won before facing Messi?

It wasn't 19 years old Cristiano fault that Scolari was tactical inept, managing to loose 2 times in the same tournament playing at home vs Greece with 2 different lineups.

At least Ronaldo didn’t need HGH!

*drops mic*
*pics up mic, cleans it with expensive brand of disinfectant wipe, just to be sure*

At least messi didn’t need to spend a days wage fixing his teeth.

Ronaldo needed help to get his teeth fixed while Messi made his dentist better at his job

Yes and it's just as embarrassing for them to have lost to Greece.

Make no mistake, Greece are the worst team to have ever won an international tournament.
