This game, plus my hangover, resulted in my nodding off just before half time...

At our worst, we really look like we'd struggle at conference level.

The mentality of this team is just so hard to get consistent.

We start way too slow in games like this and allow teams to settle.

You need to tear into them from the off and get the crowd on their feet. You can knock it about at walking pace and have a breather when you're 3-0 up!

    Horrible boring slow football.

Herrera has been pointless out there, get him off.

Mata has been shite too, but I have more faith in him to correct that.

Stick on Lingard/Martial we need some pace. Maybe both if Mata isn't up for it.
Agreed that Mata and Herrera is poor. Must be taken off.
Lingard and Martial to come on.
Lukaku need to run to space whenever Sanchez has the ball in an advance position.

The attacking movement is awful isn't it? Players cut inside every single time. I'd get Rashford on for Mata, shift Sanchez to the right/centre/let him drift.

The Spanish back-pass brothers need to get taken off. Permanently. Horrid, uninspiring, lazy, spoilt performance. We deserve every bad article that is written about us. My grandma can see that the lineup chosen is for Barcelona away, not WBA at home.

The players didn’t care at all - absolutely woeful half. Sure we were denied a penalty and a more easy route to victory, but where is the passion and energy!? Pathetic display.

No width, no players intelligent enough to peel wide and offer overlaps. Valencia in particular has been utter garbage. He lacks any sort of courage to beat his man and can be defended with ease every time 1-on-1 by showing him inside. An utterly cowardly performance.

Exhibit A for why we require new wide players desperately.
He is completely finished. Watching TAA for Liverpool yesterday and then watching this is very sad. Our fullbacks are not good enough.

We are playing too slow and with no urgency. It's almost as if we have to be losing to play well. Pogba has slowed down just about every counter attack. Keep attacking at pace. No need to allow West Brom to get all their guys back to defend. Come on United...

Valencia should be finished for us really.
I agree. Valencia offers nothing in attack. He should be taking on the left back and whipping in crosses. The backward passes and passes in midfield is frustrating. Honestly, has nothing to offer as a captain.

Pogba frustrates me - he plays football like it's a training session. It seems more important to him to show off his skills than to play effective football. Which is understandable when you are 19 - but not at 25.
Believing his own hype from the City game? He’s been doing feck all if you take away a couple stepovers and his hollywood (Rooney) passes to Valencia.

Get Lingard on for Mata and get some urgency in this game. Our right side is absolutely dead, WBA flooding the middle and the left and we’re passing like it’s a senior centre show off match.

Same old boring predictable football. Seems we only bother to play when we're a goal or two down. Shouldn't be like that

Wont go that level but yes lack of urgency was there to be seen.
I don't use that insult lightly, but I think it really was Van Gaal bad.

We had that brief flurry with the penalty appeal and the two foster saves. But other than that it's been pretty dreadful really.

It’s game like these that make me wish you could make 10 substitutions! It’s not obvious players are going through the motions with one and a half eye on semi next week. So should never be selected in the first instance.

Anybody expecting any form of swashbuckling football under Mourinho has just gotten a reality check.
Don’t think it is about the manager. We lack the full backs and wide players to change the dynamic of a game like this. If we had an attacking right back with the convinction to attack their defence, it would be very different.

It's been said that either Mourinho doesn't believe in coaching attacking moves or that he just prefers to coach defensive moves and let spontaneity happen on the counter.

That, my friends, is what happens when you don't coach (if he isn't doing so) or strategise attacking philosophy. You end up with players jogging or walking 6 yards away from one another with their backs turned to the ball with no one in particular making any runs.

Playing three midfielders is probably overkill. Will most likely see Rashford come on soon enough. Playing the wrong pass on occasion and then Mata holding on to the ball for too long.

Need to have more tempo in the second half.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Mata started well with his combination with Alexis, but he seemed to get worse at the half wore on. He's a vital player for us when we are playing 4231, but in a 433 we need more pace and somebody able to take his player out wide (especially if we are playing with Alexis on the other side). I'm guessing Rashford will be on at halftime, the only question is whether it'll be a straight swap for Mata or whether we'll change formation and take Herrera off.

We need the wingers to stretch the field, both Mata and Sanchez are dropping deep and playing narrow, which is not good considering we have three CMs in the field already, this could be solved if our fullbacks could put a decent ball in, but that is not happening.

From an entertainment POV that was probably the worst 45 minutes of the season. Utterly dreadful. On the plus side, the second half can’t possibly be any worse. Onwards and upwards.

Herrera is covering the right hand side but perhaps we should just bring Lingard on.

The start of this season made me look forward to United games for the first time in years. But haven't looked forward to a game in ages now. We're such a chore to watch.
