If only referees weren't scared to book him for it. They don't do it because they know he'll probably score later on and whip his top off and there's no way they want to be the ref who sent off Ronaldo.
That's pretty much what happened this year at the spanish supercup

THey'll say it's cause Messi fanboys ran riot here before so they're like returning the favor or whatever.
But even in this forum - crawling with fanboys - I would have hoped for better than this. It's just....weird.
I've never seen a fanbase collectively obsess over a rival of their hero the way this lot does over Messi.

Watched every one of his UCL games the last 5 years and most of us who aren't Ronaldo fanboys recognize that Messi has never had a match this poor. He might not score, but he's always involved. A lot more than your idol was tonight.

Now, keep the bitterness at home and take the loss.
Seriously? Any of the times they got trashed by Roma, PSG, Juve in the last 2 years alone? :houllier:

Even their comeback against PSG he did very little.

The game was so casual and meh. Ronaldo didn’t feck up anything. In fact the one chance he had he put the ball in the net but it got called back. Still the 2nd leg to go.

...people won’t acknowledge Ronaldo holding back when he thought to bicycle kick it. Caused the entire Bayern defense to stop moving. Ball double bounced (goes to show how flat footed it left them concentrating so much on CR7’s movement/anticipation) and Marcelo struck it in goal.

^no one will mention that though. But if it was Messi who attracted the defense and left another wide open to score, they’d be drooling all over it.
Jesus you're reaching. He played poorly, nobody even commented on it, you're the one that bizarrely bumped the thread to declare he'd "done a Messi".

And fwiw, that isn't the only chance he had. He also put a shot out for a throw in ;)

It's just a nice excuse for their obsession. We're obsessed but look at them.

It’s exacty it actually hahaha. Guessing you weren’t here at the start of the year when Ronaldo and Madrid were off to a slow start.

Funny how the Messi fanboys can dish it but can’t take it.

No, the commentators actually mentioned it and was talked about at halftime. At least on my channel (TSN) here.

See for yourself if you don’t believe it:

...3-4 defenders all froze up. Otherwise would have marked Marcelo but they were focused on Ronaldo winding up for a bicycle.

Push it aside or say whatever you want, it’s right there in front of all of us to see. Just looked at the defenders hopeless reactions as the ball goes through to Marcelo. Ronaldo let that ball roll (bounce in this case) and it directly lead to the goal. Bayern thought he’d strike it or at least bring the ball down / control it; were clearly shocked and left wondering when he didn’t...defender was in between Ronaldo and Marcelo, ball bounced an inch from his foot that’s how focused he was on CR7 otherwise would’ve been an easy clearance with the ball coming down literally right at his foot.

Imagine thinking it was intentional or giving Ronaldo the credit for that goal

The point is you seem to think we should be praising him for that? He was going to shoot, realise it would have been insane and just wasn't on and decided to leave it. It wasn't some 4d chess move ffs.

I still have no idea why you bumped this thread.

Mate, it was a fake chilena shot that bent space time continuum making the ball fall perfectly for Marcelo. Not sure what you're on about.

Not praise, just acknowledge.

Yep, just like he left it against Juvé right cuz that wasn’t insane? Didn’t know knowing defenders are focused on you and holding back to let the ball roll takes a degree to pull off. Such a complicated maneuver :houllier:

Wait, so I just simply stated a fact - an observation - from the goal and you’re denying it?

Don’t get why there’s so much denial but sure thing.

Ronaldo was horrid today, two games in a row now, lucky for him his teammates showed up like they ussually do when he is missing, basically everytime he doesn´t score. That´s the diference with Messi, when CR doesn´t score he brings almost nothing to his team.

I just assumed that you were on a wind up because it is ridiculous to even try and give Ronaldo credit for that goal. First of all it was a defensive mistake and then an exquisite goal by Marcelo.

Even the likes of Cal will not think that goal was anything to do with Ronaldo.

At the 1-2 it was Ronaldo’s imposing abs that made Rafinha flinch. So, basically both goals can pretty much be called his.

Unless Kane claims them of course.

Ronaldo can do nothing and still win matches, Messi doesn't have the luxury of his team feeding him balls all game and also can not get away with having a bad game as most likely his team doesn't win

Ronaldo needs Real Madrid much more than Messi needs Barca

@ bolded, thanks for agreeing with my thoughts. It happened because he was focused on Ronaldo striking the ball or at least controlling it down. No other way someone fecks that up when the ball is coming right to his foot for a clearance. Just look at the reactions, it’s right there. People acting like this is fantasy and made up...don’t get what’s so hard to admit what they can see.

It's quite funny to read this thread. But I just want to point something out briefly.

I was going to embed the video, but I don't have the posting privileges to do so yet. Perhaps someone else can post it. But if you Google "The most complete player in history!" Lampard, Ferdinand and Lineker praise Lionel Messi" then it will come up.

At 0:18 in this video, Frank Lampard says the following about Messi:

"Not only is [Messi] a genius on the ball, and toys with defenders, and dribbles, twists and turns, but the critical stuff, the really efficient stuff that scores goals or assists goals he does brilliantly as well. So as an attacking player, the most complete player for me in history, for me. For sure, based on what I've seen live. Definitely".

That is a matter of opinion. It's an opinion that I entirely agree with, and I don't think anyone has ever described Ronaldo as a "genius on the ball". But I could see how it's possible to conceivably disagree with Lampard's opinion of Messi, although how anyone could claim Ronaldo is as complete a player as Messi, I really don't know.

However, at 2:26 in the same video Rio Ferdinand says the following:

"I think [Messi] and Cristiano Ronaldo are the best players. The difference between them is that Cristiano goes out there and his mindset is 'give me the ball in the areas where I can score a goal'. Cristiano Ronaldo is not bothered about being on the halfway line and playing, about the rhythm of the game. He wants to be at the cutting, knife edge of the game. Whereas Messi...you sometimes see him in the defensive midfielder position, picking up the ball, playing one-twos, just playing with the opposition, waiting for that moment, biding his time. He's involved in the rhythm of the game constantly. That's the difference between the two players".

There are people on this thread trying to claim that Ronaldo isn't just a poacher, and that he contributes as much when he's not scoring as Messi. This doesn't stand up to any kind of scrutiny anyway, but the guy who lived next door to him, who used to give him a lift to training, who played for the same team for several years, who has hundreds of appearances at the very top level, just told you that he's a box player and poacher, who contributes very little else to the game other than goals.

That's why in games like this evening when Ronaldo doesn't score you don't see him.

And that's not even a criticism. That is perfectly normal in football history. It just so happens that Messi is a freak who, as Lineker says earlier in the video, is the best passer and dribbler you'll ever see, has been the best and most effective free-kick taker in the world recently, is an unbelievably brilliant playmaker, still scores 50 goals per season from the number 10 position, and scored 73 in one season and 91 in a calendar year when he did play as a forward. That is not normal.

If you want to believe that Ronaldo is better than Messi then that's fine, that's subjective, although it's extremely hard to make a credible case when Messi quite clearly has a far superior skillset. But to honestly post and try to claim that Ronaldo is anything other than a box player, or that he contributes more to the game than Messi, is just idiocy.

It was a defensive mistake but claiming that Ronaldo should take some credit for the goal is ridiculous. The players are drawn to him because he is Madrid’s best player and they know he is dangerous. Not because it was all a ploy from Ronaldo as he knew Marcelo would score a screamer.

I guess you can say he pulled a Messi tonight ;)
Nah. Salah did a Messi yesterday. Ronaldo today did.. not sure what he did but I guess he was playing football.

But irony aside, you can't blame him. There was no real service today. If there had been, I'm pretty sure he'd have scored just like he did after that handball. You can't expect him to tear defenses apart on his own anymore since he hasn't been doing it for quite a while now. So he basically did his job. His team mates didn't today although stepped up on their own to compensate.

How does that make Ronaldo better than Messi?
I didn’t say that did I? It was a response to your previous post.

You said Messi does nothing and Barca lose. Losing is a lot different than losing a 3 goal lead in the 2nd leg. That’s choking and not showing up when it mattered.

I’m honestly in disbelief at peoples bias that they can’t even acknowledge that. I simply stated how the goal unfolded and what led to it. Yet people are labelling me as reaching.

...did that not happen? I simply mentioned it and you guys are acting like it didn’t Jesus Christ.

People (myself included) need to stop feeding the troll.
Yep, I’m somehow a troll for mentioning Ronaldo let the ball roll and all the focus was on him and the defenders froze which led to Marcelo being able to strike the ball on a 2 hopper. Such a troll.

...are you denying that happened? Because all I’m saying is it happened and it seems to me you and a handful of others are acting as if that sequence didn’t occur.

That Ronaldo telegraphed his whole move to allow Marcelo to score? He was aiming for a overhead kick, quickly realised it wasn't gonna work and left it and Marcelo finished wonderfully. That's what happened.
