I've no idea why people think Martial coming in would change anything. When he plays, it isn't really much different.

Martial and Rashford are both ineffectual.

Chelsea are sitting in and with us having no focal point they are happy to force us out wide and try to score from crossed balls. Unfortunately they have scored from a counter and have something to defend. It will be hard to turn this around.

    These "pundits" are clueless.

Apparently when Ander gets the ball hes just giving it away, with his 93% pass accuracy, tackled 0 times and 1 bad touch losing the ball.

We’ve been the better team. Aside from the penalty, they’ve done nothing, created nothing. We’ve had all the ball.
Been the better team? Mate we’ve been shit, they’ve not done much else but we’ve been awful. Need to change things at half time otherwise we are going to lose to a team who have been on their holidays since February.

People criticise Pogba.. that run shows his class. It's the dross up front that stifles us.. Lingard and Rashford have been non-existant, and Rashford has been absolutely terrible as he usually is.

Our full backs are terrible as well.
This has been the case since Ferguson retired. Sick of Mourinho persisting with shit fullbacks who contributd feck all offensively.

Yeah we had the ball, and havent looked like getting into the box. How have we been better? Before their goal, we played so slowly and just kept giving it to them. They at least had a reasonable plan of getting to advanced positions and got them the goal. Since then, we have been useless. Its been dreadful and we deserve to be behind.

It's an unpopular opinion no doubt but Rashford is so fecking overrated, take him off and get Lukaku on as soon as possible.
Think he is typical of a lot of young strikers United have produced. Flattered when first come on the scene then never quite make it. Our best goalscorers over the last say at least thirty years have all been brought into the club.

Two years ago rashford would get the ball in wide areas and turn and run at them. Noehes not even dribbling one on one. Mourinho is destroying his confidence and he's seriously regressed.

Will be interesting to see what Jose does now without fellaini as his go to sub
Let's not blame the manager entirely. Rashford is a one trick pony and most defenders in the league know how to deal with him now.

45minutes of this shit season left. Are we going to get a shot on target? Will one of our forwards be able to find a team mate inside the opposition half? Will anyone from this front three decide to play as a striker? Nobody cares. Just get it over with.

Lukaku isn't fit enough to play for 90 minutes, what else could Jose have done?Give Martial a start? He would have probably been even more woeful....
Yes obviously give Martial the start as Martial is one of our most talented attackers, generally performs in big games, been better the entire season, and recently came on vs Arsenal and changed the game for us. But of course Mourinho doesnt pick him because hes leaving in the summer.

feck, how i wish it was Mourinho leaving this summer and not Tony.

I even think we’ve been much the better team. One mistake at the back, and a poor final ball is what’s cost us.

Rashford should’ve equalised at the death too. I’d be surprised to see him come out for the second half.
Depends a bit on how you assess the game I reckon. We've been better in the middle of the pitch I think, but feel both managers thinks their team had control during that half. Not a lot of chance creation for either side.

A bit devil's advocate: but what do you think the true 'best' players would do when a manager questions them, but gives them a chance in a cup final?

I'm kind of sick of hearing about how Rashford's 'confidence' is 'broken' by mean ole Jose. You're playing for your boyhood club at Wembley in the final of hte FA Cup. If you want to be a professional footballer, you give two sh*ts about what was said and you grab that opportunity.

When was Lingards last good game? Actually can't remember.

He stepped up earlier on in the season. Last few weeks/months he's sat back down. When he's on his game he can be effective but when he isn't he's probably one of the least effective players in the game. Despite the cliche he doesn't have a 'decent' setting. Lingard either plays out of his skin or he's utterly irrelevant.

    Not a very good half.

I do like the way Mourinho has us set up. Herrera is marking Hazard when we lose possession and looking to make forward passes whenever possible. Our full backs are pushing up well, and Matic has been very good. I believe the idea is to break quickly on the wings and cut back to find Pogba or Sanchez to finish or make a key pass while Rashford/Lingard pull defenders out wide. However, both our key players - Pogba and Sanchez have been extremely poor in their positioning as well as on the ball. Their key player showed up, ours didn't. That's the difference.

I think it'll be difficult to get back into the game. They are happy to sit back and defend deep.
The best and most unemotional summation I have read so far.

45 minutes closer to the day Mourinho leaves (hopefully at some point next season).

Hes a 20 year old. His manager literally treated him like ass for months, never puts trust in him right after a good game, and the second he has a bad one then he destroys him. The way Mourinho treats young players is basically how yo destroy their confidence bit by bit. I shudder to think how he wouldve dealt with a young Messi or Ronaldo. Hes fecking useless with them. All this can be applied to Martial too.
I’m not discounting that. If you ever read my posts in other threads, you’ll know that I am vehemently opposed to Mourinho as our manager. But I also think the players in question need to show more resilience than they have. Fergie has it right when he said modern players are molly coddled. Like children almost. Difference was, he knew when to be a nurturing father, and when to be a strict one. Mourinho just has one mode. It’s a shame

The sad part about today's match is Chelsea are really poor and are there for the taking but we haven't shown up again.

    Dreadfully low quality game really.

That lime green Queen Mother outfit Gabby Logan is wearing is well suited to this game.

Love me some Gabby, but that is a bad choice.

Aye it's not like this team have come back from behind against Chelsea this season.

Your point makes no sense to be honest. This team is the same team that came back from behind against Chelsea, City and Spurs. So they have it in them no matter what thread we are posting in.
It's a different lineup with a different set of characters.

Character belongs to the individuals not the kit.

You may disagree with this, but I think we need to make substitutions and change the system. That's the only way we'll be able to pick ourselves up. Only Mastic is an inspirational leader out there, and he's not enough.

or maybe it's the other way round: maybe he's gone off the boil and hasn't looked good enough to be picked; great players take their opportunites and make it impossible for the manager to drop him. rashford hasn't done that this season
it does work both ways, but when Mourinho took over Rashford was in great form, and at the start of his reign he made some great appearances of the bench, but but not playing regular football is going to hurt any player, if you don't do something regularly you get rusty. And the way he is talked about by the manager is bound to knock his confidence.

You also have to look at his attitude, when he broke through he looks confident and at home in the first team, now he looks terrified and is either so desperate to impress he over plays or looks to terrified he will mess up he almost looks parilized, its complete switch from Rashford under LVG. lthats 100% down to the way he has been managed.

    Another Mourinho attacking masterclass.

People pointing to Smalling and Jones forever miss the point.

I can't wait until we buy Milinkovic-Savic and Alderweierld and play fabulous football.

This game is an abomination. A damning indictment of both teams.

the other thing i'm fed up of hearing is that we have pace. we have nothing of the sort. neither up front or at the back. no doubt on monday the "bale is coming" nonsense will start. but the pace is why I'd prefer bailly and lindelof at CB

That was really bad, but a very expected first half. Goal came out of nothing, a bit of luck at the end and it’s 1-1. 45 minutes to score that equalizer and get back into the game. Our attacking setup is disgraceful to say the least, their defensive setup is sublime. Hardly the best conditions, but we only need the worst goal possible to open it all up again

Is anyone really surprised with this performance so far? I fully expected this, lowered my expectations and I'm not even annoyed anymore. Slow predictable and sloppy sums up the 2 years under Jose.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
For those blaming Mourinho for picking Jones ahead of Bailly...Jones has been better than Bailly all season. I don't even like Jones, hope he is sold during the off-season, and think he's played poorly this match, but it is simple fact that he has been far better this season than any of our other options. Sure in hindsight I wish we'd gone with Bailly, but going into the match Jones was the better option.

Putting Rashford up front by himself, that one I'm not happy with for exactly the same reason. Rashford has been poor all season, especially in the odd match he's had up front. Martial should be playing instead of him, whether that is up front or on the left with Sanchez up front.
