Btw, can I field Bruno Conti as a part of my South American quota?
He is actually a Brazlian, as Zico himself noticed (reflecting on Brazil’s 3-2 defeat to Italy in the second group phase): “we were playing against 10 Italians and one of ours”

After looking at some of the squads, I think the chain had a great impact. Some players selected I would not have predicted and some more familiar names still unselected so far. I think the chain was a great balancing factor overall.

Just read the OP it says:

- Any player who appeared on the pitch in minimum of 3 world cup matches from WC 1930 to 2014.

So he's a legit pick mate.

Agree, cool idea.

Think I'd have taken zero breaks and started either end (50s/60s or 2000s) and worked up/down respectively

OR taken one break but held off and only used when a clear strong player was unselected and I needed to grab him quick.

Good draft. Nice to Rensenbrink ability honoured by being picked twice.

Feck. Missed a couple of good picks as I misunderstood it to be in 1 WC :(

I'm still sad I didn't follow my heart and go for the Cruyff-Socrates combo haha

I'm still amazed you didn't. You have got some great players and no doubting ability of players like Beckenbauer but Cruyff?

If I was doing this, I'd have gone Cruyff then up (78) and another Dutch star then Brazil 82. Not saying it'd do well but I pick teams for me (as the 80s draft showed :))

@Tuppet team is ridiculous, made more so by getting Chilavert in round 10 and Ocwirk in round 12 (second only to the Rensenbrink "selection").

Might want to change spelling on Chilavert though before someone does a search, think's he's not been picked and we have a 'Rensenbrink' mark.2 event.
Ockwirk’s one of my favourite ever players. He was on my list from the beginning but I had to change my tactics so much that I couldn’t get it to work. He’s definitely not a R12 player.

Nope
Already clarified this in here earlier

The non picked XI would probably be a 2nd round contender

Have you seen him play? Not a dig — a genuine question in case you have a lead to where find the footage of him

It has to be in 1 WC. Else with odd appearance spread.over multiple WCs, it'd be impossible to judge form.
You misunderstood him. He thought that in the year of picking a player should've taken part in at least 3 games. Not in the year that he would use — so, for example, you can pick 2006 Kahn and use him as a 2002 one.

I have indeed. My grandfather was Irish but moved to Austria with his parents after WW2 (still don’t know why). He was a massive Austria Vienna fan and used to film bits of the matches he went to with a crappy but effective cine-camera. When I was younger he used to force (at first) me to watch them. I don’t remember many of the players but Ockwirk was always the one that really stuck. My grandfather sadly passed away 7 years ago and due to family disputes a lot of his stuff disappeared. Such a shame because I would have loved that footage.

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.

There doesn't seem to be any full matches of his easily available, just some brief snippets on youtube.

Nice assist at 1:25 in that one, and an amusingly blatant handball from an English player towards the end

This last one seems to be proper extended highlights of Austria vs Switzerland from 1954, but with no commentary and poor picture quality I haven't watched the full thing:

I must admit that while wording in Op wasn't clear, I thought the intention was any player would've had to have played 3 games min in the WC he's selected for. Otherwise as EAP says, difficult to assess that player?

Sure @crappycraperson will clarify before any more.

I tried finding footage of him when I last picked him and it was near impossible.

Loads of written pieces, but it's usually hard to judge given that they will always display purely positives

Can't believe he lasted this long. Doubtless only because of the chain factor. I'd gladly have had him early on if we'd stuck with that 1994-1998-2002-2006 chain.
Yeah wtf was my first reaction there. Has to be one of the top playmakers in the pool going by his 2006 tourney.
