The football under LVG was much worse than it was last season, yet Rashford's performances were better under LVG. I think criticising the style of play is just a way of shoehorning in digs at Mourinho. As @Red_Aaron said, Rashford needs patience from United fans.
I actually preferred it as the high line we played congested the opponents half and meant that our attackers were more frequently in the positions that they are most dangerous. It's no coincidence that Southgate's England push forward similarly and Rashford has more of an impact on proceedings. I just don't think we really had the suitable players at that time.

Mourinho has been fantastic for us in identifying and attracting talented players, but I feel Van Gaal could have had a more successful tenure had he worked under a director of football at that time. There are things that I like and dislike about both managers, but ultimately I don't think either are right for this club or the way football has changed in modern times.

Aye I didn't mean you specifically were having a go at Mourinho, and I see where you're coming from, but I'll have to disagree with you since you're a Scouse lover.

It's not true. I've been falsely labelled!

I had every intention of supporting Liverpool in the final but as soon as it kicked off...I just couldn't! I <3 Ramos. Honest.

A lot of people forget that he is only 20 years old. His raw qualities are clear to see. If he keeps working hard he will get his rewards, no doubt in my mind.

Might get slated for this, but I feel Rashford has mastered he art of looking threatening whilst not actually providing any real threat.

He didn't do anything today.

He's the only player in that England team along with Loftus Cheek who has a bit of flair that can beat a man.

He has just started to become indecisive in key positions. Previously he used to play by his instinct. Hopefully this is part of his growing up.

Some of the things he tries don't always come off, but he's disruptive to a defence and puts them on the back foot. Tunisia had settled in to a defensive system and had started to look comfortable playing for the draw, but they lost shape when Rashford started running at them. He's also a big game player and seems to relish playing in these kinds of games.

Played well when he came on, but also showed why he'll never make it as an outright striker. No chance in hell an Aguero or a Kane leaves that shot for someone else. Rashford doesnt have that instinct.

It was a tough position, better strikers than him wouldn't score that.

I thought that at the time but it's hard to say. If Alli was behind Kane in a Spurs game and screamed at him to leave it, I reckon there's a chance he would. And this is the equivalent of that.

That shout was the worst thing Lingard did in the match, though. Including his own miss.

Rashford was livid at Lingard for that shout. Could see him going ballistic on the replay when he'd looked round and seen Lingard getting crowded out. He would have pinged if it weren't for Lingard's shout, a strange thing to criticize Rashford for.

Looked good when he came on, he's such a talented player. Picks the ball up anywhere and is a potential danger.

Reminds me of welbeck at times. Burst onto the scene and huge hopes and then started to lose his instincts.

Saying that, he's much younger than Welbeck was and natural ability is mich higher too. Still think he'll have a much better career than welbeck and will be with us for years but needs to start getting rid of those insecurities for sure if he is to lead the line for United and England.

Just saw his new tattoo on his left arm! His first one? What does it say?

On the other hand, he really impressed when he came on. Really tried to make things happen and was full of flair:

Yep, with you on that. When your teammate screams you to leave it, you leave it simply because your team mate behind you can see the whole overall picture, he can see his opportunity and Rashford's so should be trusted. Shame Lingard didn't realise that Rashford was better placed.

The fault was completely with Lingard for that and Rashford was rightly livid. It's a shame because it makes Rashford look a bit naive in live play.

Great to see that reaction from him as they are best of mates and probably fire each other up that way.

Am I the only one who is angry at Southgate at not playing Rashford more?

He was our (England fan's perspective) best player Vs Costa Rica before the world cup, yet was dropped for the Tunisia game; he came on for last 10 minutes and was the best player on the pitch.

Sterling was Poor Vs Tunisia and Panama, yet Rashford played 10 minutes from two games. Rashford is arguably is top 2 players in England with his ability.

Now I am sure he will play Vs Belgium, but he will probably play in a changed side and thus not out best team. So we would not see his best performances. Similar to when Martial starts with a second team, and then are surprised when he does mediocre.

It probably is ageism as he younger than most. Just infuriates me a bit, not as a man utd fan..but as an England fan. He has deserved to play instead of Sterling.

Agreed 100%.

Gutted he didn't get on the pitch today, although as Vardy discovered there's not always much point so late in a game that is effectively over at half time. Hopefully Southgate has penned him in for the Belgium game where pace will be so important against an experienced, gifted but slow back four and an opponent who might have most of the possession. Or at least that he might decide to start him now that the game is virtually a dead rubber (no clear advantage in finishing first in the group.)

I think he’d have played today had the team sheet not been leaked. I think Southgate rates him and his time will come. Sterling has not been impressive so far and Rashford can play his way in given the chance.

Did anyone really expect him to score that chance? As soon as i saw it was Rashford on the end of the pass i knew he'd miss. He could be a good player but he'll never be a striker.

Yep. He has a good striking technique but he loses all composure when through on goal like that.

His shooting technique's improved but his composure hasn't, needs to work on that. Though to be fair, Courtois is as good as any keeper in the world in one-on-ones.

He was so clinical pre-season and early in the season. Maybe his confidence is shot but would expect him to put those one vs ones away.

Someone should sit Marcus down and explain to him that he should never take another free kick.
Its a complete waste.

If he really looks up to CR7, then he still has many things to learn. And btw, does he increase his weight? He becomes stronger but also slower I think.

What about the late winner in the Champion’s League match? Free kicks are always low % anyway.

I thought he was pretty crap tonight. Been a bit of a disappointing season overall, for club and country. Barney Ronay can stick his “repressed at United, liberated for England” narrative up his hole.

Still young and hopefully he can put his technique to good use. If it all comes together then we'll have one hell of a player

More of a keeper howler. He scored a good goal v Celta away but thats an incredibly low percentage.
Its not just shots on goal, he took a lot of our other freekicks from wide etc before Young took over.
Hes just not very good at them. He keeps trying the Ronaldo technique and rarely troubles the keeper with them.

Was actually the Celta Vigo one I was thinking of.

Yh I thought this, I feel he is more powerful and maybe is actually faster when he gets going but his acceleration looks a bit off. He used to go from standing to full sprint in seconds and now he seems to go through the gears a bit.

It might also be to do with fatigue because I thought Vardy was slower than usual - he had that one vs one sprint with Vermaelen (I think) and he was only marginally faster. Usually he's lightening quick.

He didn’t take his chance tonight so I guess everyone will blame Jose.

He can still be important to make an impact off the bench.
