Maybe the club is playing hardball with Jose and telling him you have the players so get on with the job.

I've vented, got angry, worried etc but now feck it, lets wait and see what happens over the next 3 weeks. No signings would be crap but I'm excited to see the players we already have reach their potential.

Well then the protests to start again. Sure he has some good players but with the gap with city and there amazing sqaud and Liverpool pumping a billion quid into their squad this summer it will be impossible to compete without some reinforcement

It won't surprise me if there are issues between the pair. I can imagine Ed's reaction if Mourinho tells him to spend £50m on Perisic or £60m on Willian.

That would be the most worrying thing if the board are thinking like that. That would mean they are a bunch of raving idiots if they think we have the players to win the league let alone compete in CL. We have no depth in quality Let alone starters in key positions like LB and RW.

I for one am a little bit worried now. I know we still have a few weeks left but feck me why aren’t we being linked to any right forwards? The mind baffles

I just hope to god we’re not done this window, as it’ll be another year of a top 4 battle.

I was happy the window was shutting early when they announced it, now I wish they didn’t.
Come on Woody, do something!

I'm disappointed that players like Lenglet and Odriozola, good players in positions we need players in, have moved from their clubs to Barcelona and Madrid and we didn't even seem to look at or compete for them. Both cost around 30m.
It's a strange market, Also seeing players like Mina and Malcom linked to Everton and Seri go to Fulham. All available at good prices. Mina looked a beast against England. I guess they're not what we are looking for but its strange nowadays, the days where a player had about 5 offers are gone transfers seem so constructed.

That young keeper will go out on loan which helps his development rather than sitting on bench whole year.

Don't know how anyone can have issues with this.
Fair enough. My point was if we were short of places in the squad then maybe there would be a goalkeeper in the reserve /youth teams that could have been nominated as back up reserve 3rd keeper with the option to recall a loan if we had a goal keeper crisis?

Our transfer strategy should be simple, as and when the best players in the world are available we should consider them, Ronaldo, Sandro, Lewandoski, Thiago for example ?
If that is the extent to our transfer strategy, then I would be a bit worried.

I would hope we're actively trying to find/scout/pursue players that we believe can become the best players in the world, or if not, a very good player for Manchester United... as opposed to sitting around and hoping that Lewandowski or Thiago become available...

Think the wage structure of the club is not allowing us to buy more players without selling. Over paying salary to players like Sanchez has cost the club a lot, plus the transfer fees during the last couple of years. Another shit season from Sanchez and i think we should start trying to flog him to China.

Yeah he was crud after we signed him but I'm hoping he's better this year. But I think you're right, I wonder how much Darmian is on a week? Because we are United, we pay more in fees and we also then get stretched by players agents over wages. I think we need to clear the decks but we aren't going to get much for players like darmian so we should sell him for a token fee to get him off the wage bill or offer him as part of the Sandro deal because if we are genuinely interested in Sandro the only team I've seen Darmian linked to is Juve it would make sense

If Jose thinks they strengthen the team above say Mata, Young, Lingard and Fellaini then we go for them, simple.
If thiago and Sandro are the best players in the world then why is Bayern trying to ditch Thiago and why doesn't sandro get into the brazil squad / juve squad half the season

These aren't the best players in the world.

Lewandowski has been in the past, but based on this world cup lukaku trajectory is to be one of the worlds best strikers. Seems nuts to trade him in for the former best striker in the world.

I see nothing strange, this is just being spoiled and thinking that signing players are the way to improve. The big signing this season is his new backroom staff, something new cooking up for the new season hopefully.
I don't think it's spoiled as such to question the quality of certain players (or be skeptical about others coming good or having an immediate impact).

But you have a point in general. I don't think simply buying X, Y and Z is going to work in terms of cohesion and the other issues people have complained about for a long time now. If Mourinho thinks this too, i.e. that the key is to improve the game plan rather than adding new players - fine. Excellent, in fact. But he has to deliver now. And he (and his fan club on here) certainly can't begin moaning about lacking quality when we're some weeks or months into the season.

If we are relying on EW valuation of players over JM then we are in big big trouble. I highly doubt this is the case.

I would even trust some people’s opinions on here regarding players over Woodward.

We had one of the best defences last year. And Mou is still one of the best when organizing a team. Won't be worried if we don't sign any defender right away given that TFM is back and Shaw will be playing for a contract/transfer.

Midfield has been strengthened with AP back and Fred. Too many attackers already and I think we'll sign someone only as a replacement to an existing player (if someone leaves).

Overall more worried about how Mou will get the best out of the existing players and play better as a team. We have the right players and at the right age profiles.

What a spirit to start a season with. A surrender. Already justifies his failure?
You should watch the actual interview. He was asked how bad is it that half his senior squad is missing. Should he be over the moon? The rest is very laid back and he even goes to describe that the positive side is that the youngsters will get a chance. But you won’t here that mentioned.

People will take snippets and twist them to suit their agenda.

Looking at the moves Mourinho is making, he is taking some action now. He is determined to do something new and it could possibly work.

If it fails, then at least he is trying. Can't imagine being the man, he must be in severe pressure to deliver. Get em' Mou!

I am really surprised that post/threads like the OP are not banned.
It is a bunch of assumptions stated as facts.
Secondly, there are so many threads complaining about the same old thing.

I have seen and had threads locked for a lot less.

Some people just couldn't control their inner muppetry, kinda forgiven because the dippers just signed players after players.

Dippers panic caused this thread to be created.

I think the problem is Woodward, he sees the club too much from a business perspective and not enough from a football perspective. he even said himself that what happens with the season performance doesn't really impact the commercial aspects of the business. We all know that United is a global brand that will make money either way but something has to change.

If you look back at the days of Fergie and Gill, they cared about the football, yes we made money but that's always been the case but they put football first; If we had to go out and spend £30m (probably about £80m today) then we did and no one questioned it. Fergie and Gill may be gone, but the legacy and expectations that they left behind haven't, the fans expect whoever is in charge to continue the legacy of our football club.

I've had enough of people blaming managers, I'll admit I'm guilty of this too, but its clear to see now that the managers aren't to blame, Woodward is and probably further up. Yes we are a business and we need to balance books but first and foremost we are a football club, we have a history of winning and unless our executives start treating us like a club again then I worry we may end up like Arsenal, Liverpool and Milan. If you look back Jose said he's leaving the transfers to Woodward, and during the biggest football match of the summer, which is a great place to scout, he watches fecking tennis; Its clear to see he isn't bothered about the transfers.

We need to get back to what we are good at, playing football and winning trophies. No more executives lining their own or the Glazer's pockets.

If this is the way the club, my club, OUR CLUB is going to be ran then we need to make a stand, if the green and gold scarves have to come back then so be it, but I will not sit back and let my club become a team that was.
Excellent post!

We have sold Johnstone and Dean Henderson is already out on loan. It's better to send them on loan and help them develop than worrying about 1 slot in the squad.

Sure, let us not sue the poster but let's close the thread at least.
It's all up to the mods. This thread is similar to "Wot no transfers" thread anyway.

To OP, we consistently signed star players since Sir Alex retired. Mata, Di Maria, Falcao, Martial (wonderkid), Pogba, Ibra.. You get the idea.

Remember the season when Ruud left and we are left with Ronaldo and Rooney to start the season?

Let us just trust the manager this time.

the issue probably is that we are fixated on Bale yet again - Woody has made a PowerPoint and the rest highlighting how brand Bale is perfect for United

football has taken a back seat to corporate United with our galactico policy and we haven't allocated money where it is properly needed - notably in the wide areas

shocking really

So in few words the richest club in the world is happy to play second fiddle to City while 'augmenting' their team with a kid, Brazil national team's water carrier and some old dude straight from Stoke's dustbin? Sweet. Also shouldn't hype be justified on the pitch rather then away with it? After all we should have learnt our lesson with the various Wellback, the Da Silva twins, Evans, Macheda and co who were expected to rule the world only to end up, well, nothing special at all. That last time our academy produced a world class article was back in 92. So lets get down the hype train shall we?
Realistically if City reproduce the same form again this season do you seriously think any other team have a chance to win the league ? It's not about being happy to play second, its all about being realistic and build a team that will challenge. Whenever City slips we should be there to take advantage and If Pogba hits running along with Matic and Fred we will be fine. We are not going to sign someone for 40-50m and put him in the bench. That's why I was pretty sure we were not going to bring a LB in unless we sell both Young and Shaw. We have so many CB's already and the ones available are not really better than what we have. The one position we should be looking into is the right wing but I guess Jose might have some other plans.

Wellback, the Da Silva twins, Evans, Macheda were all talented. Talent alone wont be enough for sure. O'connor, Gomes, Chong, Tuanzbe and Greenwood are exciting prospects and deserves there chance . If they take it they will be in the team or else they will be thrown out. Its as simple as that.

My main concern is the lack of replacement for injury prone players.

Going into the new season it's looks like Shaw, Bailly, Jones and Rojo are fit but how long will this last? If they get injured, like they always do, we will be short at LCB and LB once again. If Valencia is injured can Dalot step in straight away as a replacement? Still no one at RW and there is no one to replace Lukaku if he gets injured.

One of the reasons why City stormed the title was the sheer quality of the squad not just the starting 11.

There are certain things fans needs to understand. City were too good last season, they barely lost games in the PL and that was a freak season ( congratulations to them) . Realistically if City continue the same form then there is no chance that anyone else is going to win the EPL. Its the hard truth that's difficult to digest for most of the fans. Jose knows this and board knows this.
So why bother then? We may as well give up and give the title to City at the beginning of the season. You really believe United don't want to catch City and are happy in second place? The younger fan base was brought up on winning titles. Football is about money these days and the club will know you generate more money by more fans. You gain more fans by winning trophies.

Well is Alison for 75m a transfer strategy to you ? Jizz , I don't think anyone can have a real one these days , it's all about money and sensitive players-millionaires .
Erm yes it is a strategy. Liverpool's biggest weakness has been the goalkeeper since Klopp joined. They have bought arguably the best goalkeeper available on the market. That is a strategy.

Our strategy. Look for a big name player that won't sign, try for a month, get no where. Buy an inferior replacement after all the other good available players have already moved.

City don't operate in a vacuum. Their run last season was impressive, nobody will deny that, but they weren't up against any genuinely top class opposition: United came closest – and unless one is extremely blinkered, it is obvious that United weren't a top class outfit. City weren't pushed by anyone. They just ran out of sight – and the reason why this happened is not, contrary to what some people seem to believe, that we're dealing with Barca Mk2.

They aren't Barca Mk2. They're relatively speaking an ordinary team compared to that benchmark, so this idea - which is bizarrely promoted by both Pep and Mou enthusiasts – that nothing can be done to stop them beyond signing Messi, Ronaldo and the next Messonaldo, is unfounded. The “best PL team ever” is nowhere near being the best team in Europe – does that make sense?

They're beatable. You need consistency on top of quality to do that, though. And the former is probably even more important than the latter. If Mourinho is still capable of putting together a so-called “Mourinho team”, that team can certainly win the league over City. It's much less of a challenge than winning La Liga over Barca Mk1, even sans Ronaldo (City play sans Messi and Xaviesta, let's not forget). Getting the "Mourinho team" factor in place, though, is not a question of bringing in players muppets consider grand - it's a question of the man himself working his mojo (or jomo), a question of team mentality, etc.

If he's lost that jomo, it doesn't matter who we buy - it won't work. Not on the highest level - not in a way that leads to challenging for the biggest prizes.

That defeatist mentality would have wiped us off the map the moment Arsenal's invincibles or Mourinho's Chelsea MK1 appeared at the horizon. Similarly to Shitty both those team raise the bar substantially. We had to reach that level and then go beyond it. There was a time when I was a boy when you would look at the EPL table in November/December and be glad that we're not on top. The reason being that those on top would have peaked too early and would run out of gas by the end of the season. Mou changed all that with Chelsea by staying consistently good throughout the season making it of paramount importance to fight for each and every point. We had to react to that.

All players in the EPL/Championship are talented. That doesn't mean that they can become protagonists at Manchester United. The bar is so high these days that barely anyone can reach it. Hence why we haven't produced 1 WC player since the class of 92. The least we can do is not to distract the kids with hype so they can focus solely on their career and their talent. If they do well after a year or two on loan then they might stand a chance.

Whats everyones views on the likes of Rashford and Lingard?

Personally think Rashford would be at his best playing alongside Lukaku in a two up top.

Lingard improving constantly and after a decent performance at the WC don't see why he shouldn't be in with a shout.

Has there been any news on Perasic?

You realise that the manager is the one who decides which players we go for and we've gotten Martial, Sanchez and Mkhi in the last few years as wide players. Plus Mata.

I'm surprised we were not at least attempting to go for Douglas Costa. Moussa Dembele is another player looking to leave who would give us a great option.
The same Douglas Costa who had his loan deal made permanent by Juventus this transfer window. Juventus won't sell him immediately after buying him. Also,

I'm assuming this is the Barcelona Dembele? Why would he leave so soon? He's just had a bad season because of injury. He's still likely to play lots for them and they splashed a lot of cash on him. Barcelona won't sell him so quickly.

Wish people would assess these things before just blurting out silly thoughts.
