Anyone who thinks this is well written should stop reading things. It's long, it's flowery, it's a dumb, long winded, pointless, attention grab and a waste of a thread, that belongs to one of many other threads with similar albeit less stupidly expressed topics, but it's not well fecking written.

Think Raees is a good poster. But he could make his point with fewer sentences. Political analogies are unhelpful.

He's saying that Mourinho is right wing and using Trump like media manipulation and, in doing so, he is supported by a "toxicly masculine" socially conservative and equally right wing fan base, which is in stark contrast to the core left wing values of Man Utd, as traditionally expressed through exciting socialist attacking (presumably left) wing play.
I wanted to ask the OP if Pep was the Lenin of the Etihad but then I had a word with myself.

...and I agree with what you say above almost entirely. That point was somewhat buried in the OP.
Yup, would have been boring to do it like that though. Also @Rado_N I did say I do not want to waste 'emotions' in 'support' of the current side managed by Mourinho. That doesn't mean I have zero emotional attachment to the long-term well-being of the club or have emotions about the way it is currently being run.

So if United go on a 10 match winning run (not going to happen, but for the sake of argument) and propel themselves into pole position then he is still not going to be arsed because Mourinho would be in charge..? Cool.
Correct. I just want the Manchester United I grew up with back. End of the day, if the club grinds out 10 match win streak whilst this cnut is in charge it doesn't change my life but being able to watch the team play with a smile on its face and have a proactive identity and play some good stuff will allow me to enjoy watching us. Pro football is ultimately from the fans perspective about entertainment. They lift the trophies at the end of the day and keep the medals.. we don't.

Well written and you had the bottle to write it. A lot may feel they want Mourinho out but would not put it into these words.
I agree- and even if it's just me; it's been hard in this forum to even say a bad opinion/viewpoint over a player like Lukaku - bought to be Jose's second son and United's saviour. So most of us sit here bottled up not saying a bad thing because we get bombarded with hate when he ends up scoring a tap in against charlton; because it ultimately leads us to a level of success for a game or two. Same with Sanchez, same with lindelof over Blind.

If we played well and had an identity, the whole club would be excited for the new players that are clearly needed in a well palying team - yet we are supposed to buy the likes of willian and perisic for a club that has no capacity to play football but more a club to try and fight to win a a football match never mind who the opposition is. That is wrong & simply not enough when our opposition teams are currently playing music with their football whilst being successful too.

We either play exciting football and learn how to be successful or we become a successful team and them play exciting football. Something tells be the 2nd option does not work & yet many fans believe it will or simply don't care about a footballing identity.

I think this is just worded badly, I think he means going to games.

I’m very close to kicking it on the head. There was a tucking almost famous burger van outside OT the other day and I was surrounded by lads who literally had come over from America and weren’t interested in the game in the slightest. Mix that up with a manager who goes against the very heart and soul of the club and I begin to wonder why I bother.
He said he was boycotting United hence why he asked for a ban on here until 2019. Not going to home games is a different matter, people have their reasons for that more to do with stuff going on off the pitch which is fair.

I might be out of line here but giving up supporting a club because you dislike the current manager stinks of glory hunting to me. We finished 2nd last season and won trophies the season before ffs. Supporting a club is meant to be much more than that you're meant to stick with you club through good times and bad.

Yes,ok, but that's not what the OP says is it? I mean your initial post was in response to a request for a summary of the OP which doesn't make any points regarding scientific analysis of football vs. religious viewpoints of football. I'm not going to derail this thread (which admittedly might be tricky) by discussing what qualifies as support of a football club under the scientific method.
What was he saying then?

So you're just going to dip out while horrible Mourinho is in charge but come back when he's gone and when you think it's going to get good again? I'm not sure that's how supporting a club goes but each to their own I guess.

@Raees

Have I got the right or wrong perception of what you are saying?

Shortened version - there is a religious view of looking at football & a scientific view at looking at football.

Religious view might seem stronger - but ultimately they believe whatever they are told & will support anything whether it is right or wrong - the red necks.

The scientific approach to football may pick up mistakes early - a type of mindset that is open to the club changing & prefers it going in a certain direction over another. This is also related to the players, how they are coached & general expectations of the club.

What you fall in - is ultimately your view on football & how you expect to see United in the future.

This is what I believe in anyway; there is this hierarchy structure of supporters keep as a way of igniting their own viewpoints.
See I find myself in the scientific view of football and supporting United; where for pure example - thought that going for Jose after LVG and him buying players like Lukaku to glorify at the top of our club was a waste of time; considering it amplied success over pure club capability. Now that the club is struggling; i sit there being argued to be less of a supporter by the red necks but also having analysed and expected the problems that were to come. Some just want the club to win and do not care how it is done, which players are used and which tactics - they are the religious followers of football. I am not that and want to see an identity, a structiure, a scientific formation to my football club.

@Fingeredmouse
Interesting way of looking at it. It is similar to what is going on across the globe at the moment from a political perspective, which is why it is apt to use political analogies. The dysfunctional Tory government and the dysfunctional United states governments, are currently propped up by a voter-base who are incredibly selfish, ignorant and narrow-minded. They're easily swayed by the right-wing media and will lap up any kind of immoral shit served up by their leaders and will block out any criticism, screaming 'fake news'. It is very very similar to what is going on with United at the moment.

Catching what?
Catching, like the ‘flu. Or a terribly fashionable expression. The OP seems very fond of it. Sounds journalistic and grown up (I agree with your point, just teasing gently...?)

The fans from the 50s/60s (my Dad) are romantics? I'll let my Mum know... she'll laugh her head off.

Also the fans from the 80s are jingoistic rednecks but what about the fans from the 70s? I'm interested to know what my "tag" is.
Socially progressive counter culture Dadaist?
What was he saying then?
See my earlier summary which the OP broadly agreed with.

So, basically what you're saying is that everyone who isn't in the Jose Out camp is selfish, ignorant and narrow minded. Cool.

RAWK get enough mileage out of the way we play, I imagine a lot of this will be seen as quite intelligent.
I'm sorry but there's nothing intelligent or impressive about unnecessarily stringing a bunch of paragraphs and concepts together to pad out a simple point and I say that a huge fan of longread essays. Shite like this is the antithesis of the art form. It's the literary equivalent of public masturbation and all it does is put people off reading good stuff that's presented in a similar fashion.

So while I agree with you that we should definitely encourage people to seek out, produce and share more longform writing, I just don't agree that this is a healthy example of that.

This x 100. I honestly can't get over how much effort has gone into something so bad.

That's because people support politicians like they support a club/franchise, that remark has been made several times by political observers.

I dunno, it's either that or although and I tend to use the shorter, harder to misspell version

Not that bad a summary considering you're taking the piss.

Yes it is melodramatic, purposefully so to spark a debate about how complicit the fans are in causing our current predicament. Perhaps went a bit far with certain analogies/buzzwords but so be it. Forget Ed, forget Jose.. we have dinosaurs within our own fan base, and a certain segment who seem to think 'winning at all costs' is a effective philosophy at the expense of playing good football. They've gotten into the mindset that if we now dare to play good football, we are giving in to the 'good football' brigade and 'hipsters'. It is ridiculous, as 8 times out of 10 a winning side, is well-drilled and tends to play good football. Not to mention they have a very 'player-centred' approach to criticism as in whenever we play poorly - it is players at fault, and are oblivious to the effects of good coaching. Furthermore it seems unforgivable to give a player a run of games and let them play through bad patches of form, or give them confidence.. instead all of them should have incredibly thick skins and handle being arbitrarily dropped, even though certain favorites never get dropped when they're just as ineffective.
You're out of your mind if you think that those fans that you named and clearly insulted have any influence over football-related issues and decisions in our club. If you want to take your anger and frustration somewhere, this charade should be sent and directed to the board. Let's be honest here you are just pissed that not everyone shares your views and stance on the current situation in the club, so come out with this hyperbolic pile of nonsense. And I'm saying this as someone who is not a Mourinho fan.

As for the underlined theme of sexual insecurity, I would leave it out in the future. Oh and btw, looking at the current situation here, the majority of posters turned their back on Mourinho and the rest have been mostly on the receiving end of football "romantics" in the last few days/weeks. Same as you did with this OP.

Um, no.

It's long and flowery and emotional and long winded but that's the point. It can be all those things and well written.

Not too different from the ones in the Jose-in camp, who call everyone else a 'plastic fan', 'glory-hunter', 'spoilt, 'clueless', 'kneejerk' etc, etc. Only difference is, his way of saying it is pretty mental.

Shite thread, made entertaining by some smart replies (in these troubled times, one can still rely on the Caf). Albeit overcooked, pretentious and attention-seeking.

I was getting absolutely pelted by my scouse friends and family after the Spurs game and the only response I could muster "Is this how it feels to be a Liverpool fan? How have you feckers coped with shit like this for this long?"

Really really poorly executed post and shoe horning poorly conceived pseudo psychology terms such as 'toxic masculinity' doom the post to being without credibility, if it had a chance at all.

To dare engage- the righteousness is incredible and typical of a modern fan who would use phrases such as this and snowflake. This is a sport. A game. Yes there is strong emotion attached. But largely you only have a right to 'boycott' a club for extreme reasons. Go along to fratton park where die hard fans are freezing their balls off supporting their team and tell them your sob story.

Separately, people on either side of any argument need to accept they are both wrong- probably due to over simplification of whatever issue is at hand.

Edit- on what planet are we pretending that the so called 'left wing' (cringe) aren't a very very vocal bunch screaming venom and vile in some cases about the manager. If anything i would say the forum seems heavily in favour of jose out

Ok, so what you're saying is essentially: you boycott the club for keeping a manager you don't agree with, yet the fans who still support the manager are masculine (is that meant to be insulting? I don't get it) idiots? That's what the "real" or "better" fans do now?

That imo is more of a "right-wing" (I assume you mean populist) approach than anything Mourinho said or did in the recent past

Also, please don't mix up sports and politics, no one should. (Yet, Trump, for example, does)
