As a guy who watches pretty much every Atleti game, I can tell you he isn't worth £134m. He is a very good player but nowhere near that value. I'd say maybe £80m or £90m at a push.

Also, £134m is nuts. You pay that kind of money for a potential game winner, not a midfielder who would maybe help you organize the middle of the park a little better.
Indeed.
And I just don't see him as a game winner.

134 million would be crazy even with the current market.

65-75 million is about right.

Not even sure how this is supposed to work. He had lost all the bargaining power when he signed that contract, and I'm sure that Atleti will gladly sell him for 134 mil — he is a great player, but he is not 100+ mil great.
A player’s happiness is always bargaining power. A unhappy player doesn’t perform. Give him a pay rise and up that clause.

How much is he on at Athletico? If he's on a really small amount that it would make sense for us to pay the fee if he doesn't demand high wages. I thought we had a similar deal with Herrera because we had to overpay his fee so he accepted a lower salary

This is the calibre of player we should be pursuing. People worried about the price and level of wages, don't we read every few months how United are top in revenue, top in value etc, price shouldn't be an issue, look at what the teams contending for the league and CL are spending.

Probably doesn't make sense now given we just signed Fred and also have Pereira who is basically a new signing this season for the first team but I'd much rather spend top dollar to get players like this than spending less on unproven quality as we have done on a few occasions in recent times.

He's a very good player but not the type of CM we are lacking IMO, I mean we've bought Fred who has a similar all action, versatile style, not as good but we've made our bed.

He’s excellent but with Atlético players you never know how they will perform outside of the specific system Simeone implements there. Some leave and are still great like Costa but some like Felipe Luis have gone and not performed anywhere near the same level. I don’t think they have sold many midfielder over the last years so it’s hard to tell.

Wow, very harsh to summize Saul's game in that way thinking that's all he would add. Terrific player who made greatly improve United's midfield.

I think he’s very good but it’s not harsh at all. He’s better than Matic or Fred but not a game winner that would immediately elevate us to a much higher level which is what you absolutely need for £134m.

I agree too much money, but I don't think 'organizing you a bit better' is the limit to his talents or what he'd bring to the side.

Is he better than what we already have? Yes
Is he worth £134 million? No
Would he leave Atleti to join United? No.

 the whole of Malta’s probably coughing up £134m so it’d be a decent swap for Atleti.
I wouldn't be sure about that. There's a property boom there and property houses are going up at a higher rate then Hong kong. I paid for a house the equivalent of a massive Villa with sea views and pool in Sicily.

I rather get Ndombele for 40m and have him play with Fred. Saul is at best worth 65m. Hasn't done much to warrant 134m

The only CM worth £134 million is a Kroos, Modric level player IMO. While CM’s are very important, it’s usually attackers who are worth those sums of money, and for good reason.

Now if it were a 27 year old Modric, I would say we should pay that for him.

I didnt mention CB and actually I don’t think our CM is our biggest problem.

We have a striker who is great when you get good service to him, Pogba right now is one of the only players who gets him decent service.

Not to mention we don’t have a single player in the team who can consistently deliver quality service from the wide areas whether thats a FB or a wide man.

Personally I think if we sort out our attacking threats we’ll start to look better as a side even defensively too.

Our issue has always been creating chances and scoring goals. Thats not to say we dont need a CB but defending as a team as a whole I believe is more our issue. Not necessarily the individual parts.
You didn't mention CB but I did. It's the area we need most improvement if we are to switch formations according to the opposition.

Also Pogba is not the only player who provides service to Lukaku. I find the Sanchez to Lukaku chemistry far more intuitive and promising.

I wholeheartedly agree we need a right winger but quality ones are not really available, whereas Saul would be a great place to start to improve on our quality in the middle of the park. As for full backs, Luke Shaw and possibly Dalot may well lessen our desperation for personelle in that area.

We have Fred who is a similar level player, tell me why we'd do this? For that money too? It's that sort of reckless spending that has us where we are.

Love him, but it's an awful lot of money and tactically can't see anything in this with Fred just arriving.
He played absolutely every role possible for Atletico, on the wings or behind the striker, even filled for CB once or twice, but is best used as an energetic box to box. Has a tremendous engine (his running stats are insane). His passing is also very good, but ideally, you would want another player with an excellent passing ability alongside him or behind him. Meaning, if there were any truth in Pogba rumors we would still need to add one creative player imo.

And on the side note, a man who is crazy enough to sign a 9-year contract is very likely not going anywhere.

Its says Pogba is one of the only players. Its not good to only have 2 and it wont be good to sell one of them

It was a joke, mate! Obviously the GDP of Malta isn’t £134m. And why don’t you move to Sicily instead? Dream area. Can sing that United song too.

I know you're joking but i felt i could answer your question while at it.

The reasons i won't move to sicily are

a- there are no jobs there
b- organised crime

I don't want to pay extra 'council tax' if you know what i mean

Class player. Couldn't give a feck how much money he cost as we seem to always feck it up anyway, so we may as well get great player for once.
