Are there actually United supporters who like Henry? Were they around in the early 00’s?
Yes.

Bit small time to hate him due to an outdated rivalry thats not relevant in the modern game. Could be wrong, but pretty certain ive seen Henry speak fondly about united too.

Good choice, no high expectations and He knows the languange (obviously). Something that GNev didn't know, no idea why He decided to manage in Spain, ridiculous choice.

It's a great opportunity, assume if he can just keep Monaco up and finish in the top half of the table, it will be considered a decent job for his first season.

It's a big leap of faith form Monaco, sitting just above the relegation zone.I quite like Henry so I hope he does well.

Remember when people on here used to argue that RvN was better? Oh that was funny.
I wasnt on RedCaf in those days and i was somewhere between 11/14 years old or so but i remember playing Championship Manager and hating the fact that Henry was better than RvN. I really disliked the whole Arsenal team because of the invisibles... i started to appreciate the quality of players like Viera, Henry, Pires and even Bergkamp waaay later

Big fecking job to start your career with.
And a tricky job too. Not the easiest team to manage. Their expectations seem to be very high even though they keep selling their best players. That's not exactly the best case scenario for an unproven manager like Henry. They are basically in an ongoing rebuilding phase season by season, because the moment they form some cohesiveness and some good players pop-up out of out of those relations developing, they sell those players and start over. It becomes off putting for ambitious managers who aim higher.

But maybe Henry will manage to make them playing well pretty fast and would seek to move once a new job to a more stable club arises.

He has a good chance for success during the first season particularly with the return of injured players after the international break and apparently the club realized that they made a mistake so he should get players this winter.

This will go the same way as Neville at Valencia, but worse.
he's got nothing to lose. Henry has more experience than Neville though and he's in a French club, former player, speaking the same language, in his country, there is a big difference between the jobs.

The rivalry isn't what is was and and Arsenal weren't an artificially pumped full of cash by rich businessmen or Liverpool so they were a much more likeable rival who we would usually beat.

He has to have had guarantees in terms of investment otherwise his task will be even tougher.

All true. If he can improve them and get higher in the table by the end of the season, it will be interesting if they renew him his contract or if he even accepts it. It's a tough job but at the same time it's a good scenario because even if he doesn't succeed to meet the expectations, the circumstances are in his favor

Uh yes. Most of them probably grew up and realised it’s daft to hate someone because they played for a rival football team

It will be interesting how he is as a manager since according to the biography of Henry written by Phillipe Auclair Henry is not exactly a people person.

I'm excited to see how this one goes. I'm all up for the romanticism of a player going on to sign to become manager of one of their former sides, especially when it was the one that that was their first club.

I think that he was an intelligent player who must have learned a lot under Arsene Wenger and under Guardiola. He seems to hold both highly as he speaks about Wenger in this article:
https://www.skysports.com/football/...ry-arsene-wenger-after-final-game-at-emirates

And Guardiola in this article:
https://www.skysports.com/football/...ow-to-play-football-again-under-pep-guardiola.

He could have taken the less pressurised route and gone to someone like Villa (if the rumours are true) but it took some guts for him to go to Monaco as his first job in management. I hope that he takes into account what he has learned from these managers and this helps him achieve great results on the pitch. In spite of being an Arsenal player he was one of my favourite player when growing up. Good luck Thierry
Makes me wondering about SAF former players. They supposed to learn something from him and at least have good careers in management? Nevilles, Keane, Solksjaer... Bruce and Hughes' are better but not that impressive.

That is an interesting matter.

I thought that Bryan Robson was going to do well as his Middlesbrough side were once in 4th place although they ended up 12th, and the season after they got to the League Cup and F.A cup final. I thought that he was really going to kick on from there.

I thought that at one point Mark Hughes was going to have a much better managerial career. I also thought when Solskjaer went to Mold and won the Tepilligaen twice in a row after they had never won it before that he was going to become United manager one day.

Out of all of them I thought Roy Keane was going to go very far after what he did in getting Sunderland promoted, I still have hopes for Roy. Although Steve Bruce has had a reasonably lengthy career in management it didn't hit the heights that I thought it was going to.

I think it took some guts for Neville to go to Valencia as going to a new league that you don't have any experience of is a bold move, sadly it didn't end well for him.

I am hoping that Ryan Giggs fares a bit better, I want him to do well for Wales and hope that he progresses from there.

I think Sir Alex left a lasting impression on them and I think that is why so many of them have tried their hands at becoming managers but for some reason or other they have not reached the heights that I personally thought that they would which is a shame.

Probably true for Ligue 1, but in the Cup and League Cup a team like Monaco could beat them in a one off. So the possibility of trophies is not completely discarded even considering the heavy domination of PSG in France. Jardim has been a long time at Monaco and probably gotten a bit demotivated to always do the same stuff. After 4 years maybe both him and Monaco needed a change.

Monaco probably want constant CL presence. They want to keep selling players for a lot of money and without showcasing those players against the best teams that is not very likely to happen anymore, at least not for the huge prices they've gotten used to selling for. The way the team was going with Jardim, it would've made a top 3 finish a very slim chance. It's pretty hard for them to make top 3 anyway, even under Henry. They have something like a 10 point deficit compared with Marseille and Lille.

He's coming home and starting from a relative bottom compared to a Zidane. I wish him nothing but success, he is such an intelligent player and has great tactical analysis, hopefully it translates well along with his extreme intensity and desire to win.

No reason to dislike him solely due to him playing for a rival in the somewhat distant past, he comes across as a genuinely likable person otherwise. Unrelated but same goes with Drogba I imagine.

Will fail as a manager. Has the personna of a class clown and I heard him talk about Pep's tactics, explaining how he was awestruck by the instruction to track back as a wing-forward. If tracking back was already a revelation to him as a 30 year old senior player, how developed can his managerial brain be?

Will try to copy a few things from Pep and inevitably fail. Watch this space.
