Croatia vs. Spain the other night is one of the best games i've seen this season - certainly the second half was anyway.

Gammon refers solely to people with an unreasonably angry, entitled right wing outlook, who think PC’s gone mad and that everyone should do and act like it was in the good old days of common sense and casual racism.
It was invented specifically to insult this outlook, and to demonstrate that when you do offend people with specific unPC language, it has an impact on them. And it’s worked absolutely brilliantly, because - unsurprisingly - the very second they felt demeaned or insulted they all started crying about how unfair it was and how it should be banned for probably being racist, instantly demonstrating what a thin skinned bunch of snowflake hypocrits they are.

There’s a crossover, sure, and it’s not like working class people can’t be prejudicial gammons, but it’s not what the word is solely focused on. And the desire to paint it like that is - to my mind - the type of establishment attempt so often used by the right wing to stoke those class divisions in an effort to dismiss any legitimacy.

I work with students doing Italian history so maybe it’s not a good demographic , it just seemed like another thing to belittle this “working class” which seems to happen a lot here and I haven’t ever really understood it. I should probably just stay out of it haha. It Italy it is much simpler : The Mafia and everyone else (just kidding...sort of)

There's a load of it in this forum because of the significant Irish presence on the board. It does rankle with a lot of them if England put in a decent sporting performance and you will get all manner of bigoted nonsense rearing it's head when they do. They pop up all over England threads moaning about the English and generally being insulting with the excuse that it's allowed because of Cromwell/Churchill/Den from Eastenders.
As has been pointed out by others it's best to just pop them on ignore and move on. It's a lot nicer.

Football-wise, the world has turned upside down in recent years and I'm struggling to adapt.
I used to hate international breaks, they were just tw@ts dressed as Knights booing United players - who would probably limp off injured after 60 minutes of sickening misery-ball. They were the complete antithesis of watching United. Now United play like the old England - a bunch of expensive, egotistical square pegs with no tangible purpose - while England look organised and competent. Even England fans are on board and supportive of what we're seeing.
I'm now dreading the return of club football. Jose's sour mug, Nemanja Matic shielding the ball from everyone for 60+ minutes. Lukaku mis-timing every high ball. Fellaini. Fecking Fellaini.
It's all just so wrong. It has to stop.

I've always support United and England pretty cuch equally. I try to watch every single game of each side and follow the youth sides.

It’s a disconcering reversal of the last 25 years. Southgate and England are fresh and vibrant. United have hired the big name, mercenary manager who makes no effort to hide his lack of connection to the club or city and have a team of under-performing players with big reputations (or price tags at least) playing out-dated football. Jose is United’s Capello.
I never rated Southgate but he's proved a lot of people wrong and is doing a fine job with England.
He has been with City for a few years now. Last year he was basically just a back up LB and that's been the case this year too
