Beyond ridiculous that he lasted this long and dragged the club down to his current level.
Let's see whether Pogba pulls his socks up now because if he does he can be a great player for us. If not and he continues with his recent attitude, he can go too as far as Im concerned.

Wary as he's done little with better, but he'd have money on his side here and he's used to managing a good calibre of player

Jardim and Zidane would be my top choices, with Pocchettino a close third. Howe should be considered too.

I don't think that we should go with a high name manager this season. Leave it to Carrick and McKenna this season, and use the season to find first a good DoF and then calmly get a new manager for the next season(s).

10 years ago this was certainly true however it is nearly 2019 and things have changed.
How so? The club is in a fallow period, but it still has its stature and huge resources at its disposal.

I like the idea of getting a few together. Keane to head up Scholes, Butt and Carrick and shove a rocket up the likes of Pogba’s arse and give us a bit of identity back. We’d need a proper manager in the long term though.

Big relief and a weight off our shoulders, but sad that we’re here again.

I’m nervous that we’ll also be here yet again in a few years but also have a glimmer of hope that we might be good.
He had to go. You know it I know it d everyone knows it. His words in public and moaning about almost everything killed him too, let alone his dire coward football and falling out with half of the team. Pray this is different this time though and first step towards attacking football and many of great things I wish.

Bit of a shock but he was not getting any performances out of these players. I'd like to say its the right decision but that depends on who we get in to replace him.

Absolute madness.. We've turned into a fan-pleasing circus which doesn't stick by it's own decisions but knees to this modern hype ..
 If you're that upset, why don't you feck off with Jose?

Ummmm opertunites don’t come round too often? Really? 3 times in what 6 years?
Managerial stock goes up and down just as quickly. If managers don't take a top job when offered, they know there is every chance in 2/3 years time their stock will have gone down that they won't get that opportunity again.

Why on earth would he leave Tottenham though? He has better players there than United currently, they actually play in a bigger stadium as well.

As long as he stays at Spurs he will get credit even when he wins nothing, the risk of failure at United is way too big. And for what, more money? Because that's the only thing we can offer him.

It doesn't make any sense to me... If he just stays at Spurs clubs like Real, Bayern or PSG are going to come for him, all better projects than United currently.

I don't understand the enthusiasm as we now will have a short term solution, and the board with obviously no plan as to which direction we want to head in. There is no clear candidate. People would like Zidane, but what does he bring in terms of playing the United way? We would have to revamp the whole squad and it would take years to get a new squad to gel.

We need someone who can get the best out of the players who already are here, and build on the squad with a long term perspective. It's sad that candidates like Howe and Pochettino are so far down the list as they could do the job.

Carrick, Zidane, Conte, Butt, Blanc are all good players but they are not the next SAF let's be real.

Looking at betting companys short list of most likely managers (ranging from most likely) I get depressed:

1 Michael Carrick
2 Zinedine Zidane
3 Antonio Conte
4 Nicky Butt
5 Guus Hiddink
6 Laurent Blanc
7 Leonardo Jardim
8 Massimiliano Allegri
9 Eddie Howe
10 Mauricio Pochettino
11 Ryan Giggs
12 Didier Deschamps
13 Carlo Ancelotti
14 Diego Simeone
15 Paulo Sousa
16 Roberto Martinez
17 Rafa Benitez
18 Brendan Rodgers
19 Nuno Espirito Santo
20 L Enrique

Am I really the only united supporter who feels this way?
There are a few decent names on there, but its not a stellar list tbf

Any one thinks, lack of rui faria had a massive impact on Jose and he lost the ability to get the messege across to the players?

Pilib De Brun called this season spot on. Back in summer he said that Mourinho would be gone by Christmas.

Anyway, good news. He was doing a bad job and there was no reason to think he would turn it around.

There is absolutely no chance that Poch will leave Spurs just as the new stadium opens. He has been waiting for this for years now.
It's something he's been dreaming about since a kid, he used to have a Spurs kit with "new White Hart Lane" on the back.

Didn't a lot of people put a punt on this?

Unless we're about to completely overhaul how the footballing side of the club is handled, I fear we're in real danger of rinse & repeat here.

Its the right decision, but its been the obvious outcome for so long that the club should've been using the time to source a DOF to come in and start working to get some identity and structure to bring a new manager into.

Taking over, and lifting Utd out of the slump we're in won't be as easy (or very attractive) proposition as some seem to think.
We've definitely got bigger issues still to sort out. We're a mess from top to bottom and sacking Mourinho, as much the miserable cnut deserved it, won't suddenly make us a good team again.

We've still got a horribly unbalanced squad filled with mediocrity and an incompetent board.

Still though, sacking Mourinho is undeniably a positive thing. We should enjoy the relief of getting rid of him I think.

I don't think so. Unless we drop even further, he won't really be considered a failure I think. We have nothing to play for (CL nobody is expecting, maybe FA Cup) and people are looking at the players and saying they are underperforming/shit themselves
I hope you are right. His managerial qualities shouldn't be judged based on this gig (if he gets it), as it's a really tough situation.

Kane is the 4th best player in the world?
He has a good a claim as anyone. He is a superb striker who will likely go down as the top scorer in the PL era and for England. Had a dip post-injury and during the World Cup, but is firing again now.

A man with only half a season of experience in the job? Hell of a chance to take if it's true.
Can't see it to be honest, we're well off the CL places in the league with a tough draw in the CL to contend with. Carrick would be too much of a risk, especially when there are options out there with more experience.

Wenger would be a great shout - loves attacking, the defence is shit anyway so he couldn't make it worse, could get more out of Sanchez, French connection with Martial and Pogba. All the players going around with vaporub smeared on their jerseys. top job.

He’s a young manager his stock is going nowhere fast unless his performances drop at Tottenham, this is his best start with us since he started.

My only argument against Pochettino is that he is not a winner, but one could argue that he has been the manger for Southampton and Spurs, of course he hasn't won anything.

A coach has to be obsessed with winning, and that obsession rubs off on the players. I feel like Pochettino is more obsessed with building a elite, stable team and be a pain to play against.

But we have yet to see Pochettino with budget, that might just be the thing he needs to become a world class manager.

I'm neutral on this one.

Sorry he couldn't make it work. If Mourinho couldn't make it work, then who the hell can.
He's not the only manager. He's lowered expectations sufficiently to keep himself in a job. I reckon there are plenty that could do a better job. Poch, Pep and Klopp to name but a few.

  • Totttenham lure as a football club is growing. With London fan base and strong connections to the city, they remain an attractive propositiion for all young footballers.
  • Daniel Levy is the best chairman in football who likes to hold on to his best assets
  • With new stadium just round the corner it's clear as a day that Tottenham is set to become England's biggest club within the next 10 years
  • Over the last two years they managed to not lose to Barcelona, Dortmund and Real Madrid in the group stages of Champions League for two consecutive seasons, providing England with some of the best European nights ever
  • Tottenham have one of the best training grounds in the entire Europe, a state-of-art facility that helps Poch in development of young footballers
  • Poch is commited to a long term project that sees Tottenham winning 3 Champions League titles and 5 Premier League titles within the next 10-year span
You forgot the NFL
