Going to be a test of how we cope without him when we meet Bayern 1st leg, will be a big miss. Brilliant again tonight, just heads every fecking thing away when required.

Van Djik-Bailly would be Rio-Vidic 2.0 if Woodward didn't feck up transfers

That's the best I have seen from him. Unbelievable player. It's like the clocks have gone back and I'm watching Jaap Stam or Rio Ferdinand in their first seasons.

Have to hold my hand up and admit I thought the transfer fee paid for VVD was madness at the time. It was especially embarrassing how we cocked up our approach for him in the summer of 17. He has however made an enormous difference to the side. While one player will never make a side he has made a fundamental difference as can be seen in our goals against this season. Possibly should have been signed by Mourinho maybe instead of spending it on Lukaku?

Maybe instead of buying Rojo, Bailly and Lindelof we should have just spent the whole lot on one decent CB

Wont happen, he is already 28 and he cost Liverpool 75m. They wont spend the money needed to get him at this stage for a CB. If they want one, they will buy De Ligt.
28 in July, but it's true that Liverpool won't sell him

I must admit I thought we paid way over the the odds for him but his impact has been incredible.

Up there with the best in the league.

he would've been turned into average by Mourinho just like the rest of our 10 signings. No point discussing .

Brilliant finish. Also his defending is top notch really. Best defender in the league right now.

He was always quality. Funny that some on here thought he was complete garbage and massively overpriced. He was a bit, but it was a good investment even at that time. Easily best CB in the league.

Probably the best player in the league this season.

Played with a cold tonight as well. Not that anyone would know

He was definitely over-priced. Pool could pay that much because he was the missing piece of the puzzle. They had assembled a promising team who need some stability and experience at the back and Van Dyke provided that.

If anything, it was a very risky decision from them to pay over the odds for that one player but I am highly impressed with their planning and farsightedness that's paying off handsomely right now.

Surely he’ll be in the mix for PFA player of the year? He’s been ridiculously good since we signed him.

I’d rather he was made captain instead of Henderson.

He reminds of of staam every time I see him, just a brick wall back there and a leader.
Good on livers for recognizing his value and paying the money required to get him.

I haven't seen a defender love defending and knows they're brilliant at it since Prime Rio. That smug look of "you actually thought you'd get past me?" In the above video is very Rio-esque.

Definitely needs to be done in my opinion. Whilst Henderson has had plenty of great games for you since Klopp's arrival - he does nothing to the tempo of your game that arises from the captains heart beat. The same heart beat that Gerrard had in games when you had no one else to count upon; the heart beat that correlates with the stadium and its fans.. Van Dijk has that in my opinion more than anyone in your current team.

Come on now boys he needs to show more than one season and current form to be labeled the best FFS
Why? He’s miles ahead of any defender in this league.

It’s annoying how good he is. Wins everything, dominates everyone and is brilliant with the ball.

Staggering that no bigger club bought him when he was at Celtic, because it was like watching the current VvD.

No it wasn't. I mean, he had lapses of concentration that led to quite a few mistakes at that level defensively. He has improved immensely under Klopp, but he isn't the best defender in the world or the best player in the league just because we're annoyed a player is doing exceptionally well for rival club.

I watched him at Celtic a lot - it was.

I don’t think he’s playing at a higher level under Klopp than he did at southampton, he’s just playing with a lot better players.

There isn’t a better defender in the premier league.

Name me a better defender. If we were to do a draft of current defenders world wide, I’d certainly pick VVD ahead of anyone else. Liverpool leaked goals for fun last season till January. He came in and since then they don’t concede. 11 clean sheets this season in the prem alone. Coincidence?

Sometimes stats don’t tell the overall picture so people use their eyes to determine how good a player is. In this instance, my eyes tell me he’s incredible and the stats also tell me he’s incredible. No brainier surely.
