Next to throw his name into the hat: Paul Parker.

Cool, everyone should apply. Let the board interview him and find his merits.

No thanks. Hopefully when he does evaluate whether he has the qualifications, he will come to the same conclusion has everyone else. No Pete you are not qualified.

Yeah, no thanks. Are we going to have every ex player putting their hand in for the job now Solksjaer is here?

Nah, we can't become an old boys club. We need someone with a lot of experience in that role.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
From the article...
"I really want to get involved in football again at some point. I know I'm getting older, but my life has just turned out a different way after I retired from football." Did he get that from the book "what not to say to prospective employers"?

There's more chance of Robbie Fowler being appointed.

I don't see the problem with this. You might not think he's qualified but what qualification did Van Der Sar have before he went in at Ajax? Or lots of the former players involved at Bayern? Technical director is about getting the club to play in the United way so a former player should be ideal.

I also think it's a bit ironic that people talk about the lack of football people involved in the club but people would prefer the likes of Mitchell or whoever for this role.

Van der Sar took a job as marketing director before becoming a ceo at Ajax quite immediately after his playing career. He didn’t just throw his hat in the ring at the first possible big job that suited his fancy relying on name recognition alone to carry him there.

"I'm considering: 'Do I have the qualities?' And if I come up to an answer to that question, then I will put my name in the hat.

"I'll have a good think about this over Christmas and New Year and make a decision about it."
its like a window inside his head

Fair enough. I see a some of people's concerns are about him being out of the game for a long time. I think though that we shouldn't just dismiss ex-players for certain roles just because of a lack of experience.

Let him apply. If he thinks he’s the right man for the job then fair enough.

It’s up to Woodward to make that decision. I’d be inclined to find someone like Paul Mitchell though.

I don't understand, is the job open? I mean has United searching for someone for sure?

Very interesting point and youv'e already answered the question I was going to ask about him having the potential qualities and connections to fill the job.
But you are spot on, by interviewing everyone we will find out which unique qualities they have for the job.

Although I think a few people could still be a bit sour about him captaining city against us.

The only ex keeper that could do the role is Van der sar. Would be great to see him back at the club in any capacity really.

Those people would be irrational.

This thread is further proof that the Caf's qualification checklist for club positions are unrealistic.

He’s a bit thick, is Peter. Not particularly bright or articulate when he’s talking football on the tele. Which isn’t a barometer for success necessarily, but the only gauge we really have.

He's always seemed like someone who changes his mind like the wind. Not what you want to see in this role.

Good with me. Doesn't mean he should get it but he's certainly not the worst candidate.

That's a poor reflection on you then!

On football matters,he has no experience on the DOF/TD scene and I don't want Utd going down the route of an 'old boys network.' So thanks for the offer but I prefer paul Mitchell
