Was good today, took his goal very well but he's going back to the bench for the Spurs match. I just don't see how he's going to displace Rashford, he doesn't offer what Rashford does even though he's the better goal scorer.

Great option to have to have on the bench though, which I'm sure he doesn't like.
I think in time Rashford will prove to be a better scorer as long as Ole or his replacement doesn't derail his progress by dropping him for the useless lump

Took his goal really well.

We know he'll get some goals in a better system though. That's not the problem. He scores goals you expect a striker to score.

It's all the stuff he fluffs where we may have an opportunity if it had fallen to a better player.

Voted the best city in the world
Must honestly have one of the worst first touches in all of the top leagues in Europe? (I didn’t want to use hyperbole and say in all of pro football).

Mind boggling how terrible it is at times, for such a highly rated forward in world football.

@GifLord Any chance of a gif at 59min when the ball was up in the air, Lukaku was below it and just let it bounce back up instead of attempting to control it?

Sunday league stuff.

Abysmal football player. There are 6ft 4in CF's in the Championship with better control, dribbling and passing than him, it's a disgrace.

Lovely finish though. Credit.

Easily the best goalscorer at the club, though. Has to play for the time being as his goals will win us points even if our general play suffers a bit for it.
Against any half decent team that's just not the case.

He doesn't score goals against half decent teams to start with, but his general play will be utterly ruinous for our chances against, say, Tottenham for example.

Classic Lukaku performance, tripping over his own feet but comes away with a goal to mask it all up.

That did my head in. I'm sure there was a player wide open too if he just nodded it on.
Then, after letting it bounce he was easily beaten in the air by someone half his size. The groans from the fans were audible over the telly. He really is capable of the most wince-inducing moments.

He scores goals and then frustrates the feck out of everyone at everything else. He also does not press much, which causes more problems if we want to pin teams back and play a high line. Still, not a priority for now as there are more areas that are more problematic.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
He's going to score but he's going to feck up any fluidity we have in the attack.
That's what I'm worried about too. I have been saying that he deserves a chance to show what he can do with the new system (and to be fair this wasn't really an example of the new system), but some of the basics he does badly just blow my mind. The most aggravating thing for me isn't even his inconsistent first touch; it's how easy it is for defenders to get the ball when he should have the advantage. So many potential attacks instantly end because he loses the ball at times when he should be winning it easily and either holding it up or laying it off to another attacker.

It's still early days and I do hope he gets back to his best where he will at least be a good option for us, but I must admit I'm becoming doubtful.

Yeah i saw that and couldn't shout anything coz i was at home. Feck me how did we splunk so much money on a striker who is so shit technically?(couldn't help asking the same question)

He ruined loads of chances because of his poor passes too. I am so sick of him dont want to see him near the first team

Said it in the match day thread, I think he has dyspraxia. My girlfriend has it and she's clumsy as feck with no co-ordination whatsoever.

Edit: Just for clarification I don’t actually think he has dyspraxia.

Oof. Thats painful to watch. Nothing against him personally, but no way he should be starting when we have Rashford and Martial who are equally good goalscorers, but much, much better in pretty much everything else
They're not equally good goalscorers though.
That's the only thing Rom has over them and is the only way he even has a chance of getting in the side.

Given that he was one of the few who actually liked Mourinho it's strange that he's started working so much harder now.
Not really though. He was assured of his place regardless of performance so he didn't need to put in the extra yard. Now he has to show a bit more to gain favour

100% this. He has gone from untouched guaranteed starter even when 20kg out of weight to now having to compete for his place, against Rashford who is performing much better than him

He couldn't possibly make it as a professional footballer with dyspraxia? His motor skills are definitely better than the average, but look incredibly poor because he's playing with people who are in an even higher percentile. Put Gareth from the local pub team into a game between the two biggest shithouse teams in the Premier League and he'd look like he has light brain damage, minor paralysis and a wooden leg compared to the actual pros.

I think Lukaku's just too bulky at the moment. Elite level football requires a certain grace and finesse that just doesn't come easily for a guy lugging around all that extra weight, and it's made worse by the fact that his touch was never great to begin with.

Just isnt smart enough to be playing for a team like United. Most of the things that wrong with him can be tied back to a lack of intellect.

Ok, we get it Lukaku is the new player that some of you fans wants to hate... Finally we're having a positive manager then all you garbage fans want to sit on a desktop and keep writing shit about our team.

Look Lukaku just came from a bad and dry period under Mourinho. Since Solskjær played him he scored 3 so now is not even the right time to judge him playing in a useless FA cup match with 9 changes in the squad.

Come on guys. Look at the manager, Positive. This will make us win the same goes for us fans, stop stressing players who's not in shape or just came from injury!

Specially when they score goals and do their work, it's just silly to criticize players when Solskjær says clearly that everyone will have a new start and to forget the past. My tip for 2019 to all fans, be like the boss be Postive and behave in a good manner when you represent United as a fan, player ore staff!

I imagine that he’ll be the central striker now, which is a shame. Also a shame for Rashford.
I don't think Ole will feck up the first signs of a fluid attack we've seen for years. Lukaku will probably be used in rotation and as an impact sub.

I don't think so.

I think Ole and Rashford have a special bond and he's gonna push him and Martial for the rest of the season.

I know Lukaku has scored but he's not shone and still isn't what we want as a striker.

A better performance than against Newcastle (which wasn't bad) and I liked his goal, I do share the concerns of others that his goalscoring won't compensate for a lack of fluidity. Today was perhaps not the best example as it was a 2nd strong lacking cohesion, but we just look less threatening with him up front

I'd return to a front 3 of Martial, Rashford + lingard/ sanchez.

Get the feeling Rashford is Ole's own golden child. He isn't downgrading the free flowing football he's been emphasising just for Lukaku

Agreed. Before the goal today Lukuku was very poor. He’s putting in more effort than before, but his workrate is nothing compared to Rashford. Rashford puts pressure on the opposition’s defence, Lukuku is mostly static. Glad Lukuku scores today, but he did nothing to suggest he should start ahead of Rashford.

The amateur diagnosis gang are out again.

You don't get to score 100s in the Premier league with that!

He's just a heavily built guy who doesn't have the finesse some do. He's managed a pretty decent career using his actual strengths though!

His all round play is not the greatest but the good part is he always manages to get goals. I wouldn't be surprised even in this crap season he somehow manages to get past 20 goals in all competitions. Honestly I would love to have him as our rotation striker with rashford. A very good back up to have.

Exactly. Its like some want him to fail so that they can get something to laugh about. He has been shit this season and yet he is our joint top scorer, now that's funny.

The Everton fan said this in his summary when we signed him. That we'd be surprised how little he uses his obvious strength.

There was one moment where he literally flung some player out the way in the penalty box, but in the air he leaps half his size.

We don't have that player. I'm thinking about the goal Aguero scored against Liverpool a few days ago. If that is the standard then let's flog off our attackers and start again.
