That wasn't even running, he was just paying lip service. What Young wanted him to do was make an actual run in behind the defenders so Young could pass it into space.

Lukaku had zero intention of doing that.
Oh yeah, thats exactly what I meant. He did a bit of movement, then just stopped again. He didnt take any defenders away to create space. Terrible.

That’s what the football forum is now. It’s OK not to rate a player, but to pretend everything he does is wrong as of a result of it, much like the penultimate post above, is a little sad. I wouldn’t even expect that from my kids.
I'm seeing this everywhere on sports forums these days. I think it's a result of many younger people are becoming fans of certain players first and foremost, before the club. That leads to over the top bashing instead of players they dislike, or are in direct competition with their player. As a result, this place doesn't look like it consists of a group of fans that support the same team. It's more like a bunch of rival fans shitting on each other. That was so obvious when only one of Radhford and Martial were starting.

This thread has turned in to a joke. Lukaku can score a hattrick and people would only talk about that one bad touch he had.

you're reply to scapotism is what i'm replying to as I don't think many on here are putting down our poor performances when we have them to him. What this thread has been about since the match ended was that the guy was on for 15-20 minutes, could barely bother to chase down the defenders to give the midfield a break, could not hold up the ball when he did have it and when a pass was misplaced in his direction he threw his arms up. This has been his performances throughout the season when we clearly have a manager who is not a dictorian but more someone who wants to make players feel loved so they can perform.

Today was an awful display yet again that no one should be defending in any way. I do not easily go out and slate players at all, promise you that. I have often defended Lindelöf last year saying he's still young but will come good. When players try we see it as fans and that gives me more hope than anything.

Lukaku is seriously not putting his shift in

Young telling him to run, then him running, then just stopping and waiting for the ball was the absolute piss take. Guy comes on, he should be running and pressing, and chasing, and trying to get the ball to impress. He does everything thats not this.
Noticed that alright. Gave a wry chuckle.

He doesnt quite have the movement of Rashford, granted i thought Rashford got really tired today. The weeks rest should do him good.

I dont think Lukaku will like being second fiddle to Rashford. i think he will leave and we will get around 55 million for him.

Think there is a touch of the Fellainis about him. In that he knows his days are numbered here without Jose
Yea i think he will go. He wants to be the striker. Not sitting on the bench or playing on the right wing.

Sanchez could go too, if he does not start enough games. He wants to play, although he has been mostly disappointing when he does start.

He lost his undroppble status. There's now a fair and serious competition that wasn't the case before.

For me he’s looked great under Solskjær. I’d be happy to see him get a run of games on the wing. He looks threatening there.

Yeah stuff like this isn't going to help his case. I really don't think he is a bench player he just isn't suited to coming off the bench and hit the ground running.

Not calling for him to start over Rashford though sod that.

If you think this is great Id hate to see what your idea of poor is. I hope we get a real winger for the RW, Im done shoehorning players into positions they have no business playing.

He shouldnt start over Rashford and he isnt suited to coming off the bench...that pretty much says it all.
If the club receives any offers around 50m, selling him would be a good idea.

Can’t question his his hunger, he’s single handedly keeping his local Greggs in business.

He doesn’t look like he has extra muscle, it’s lard. Either way, he’s an utter disgrace not keeping fit.

Looks like one of those players who gets to a big club and then starts strolling around as he thinks he’s made it. He’s utterly pathetic.
Yeah he likes his fries most probably. I'd never think he is someone who would lack drive and motivation the way he comes out in interviews to be fair. He always seem like a down to earth guy and intelligent, then some of his last outings are very discouraging.

Oh Aubameyang will 100% have a massive decline as soon as he loses that pace and sharpness. It's what makes him what he is but he's basically next level quick and combined with elite off the ball movement that as long as he'll have that pace, he's good for 25+ goals a season no matter where he goes. Last season across 2 different teams he scored 31 goals in like 38 games. The 2 seasons before had around 40 goals a season. Lukaku just can't get those numbers IMO.
I keep on that Auba did benefit playing in a more adventurous set ups, both in Dortmund and Arsenal. While Rom was misused by Jose trying to make him a Drogba, when he is not that type of striker (playing with his back on goal). If Rom continues in this vein he will be gone very soon though if Ole stays or the new manager does not rate him. Which is a shame because I like him as character but we need more than talking the talk. His performances haven't been up to the standard this season.

He's just an average player that should be in a Sam allardyce type of team.

I posted on here a few times earlier but just had a thought that perhaps he's just a hose signing who likes a big centre half who puts his weight around.

Now, under the new manager we need pace and a player who puts a shift in. Happy to see him gone

He looked knackered today after a few sprints.

How?

He's just so underwhelming. Everton is his level.

Yeah i atree with that. His attitude isnt a problem, he doesnt sulk and when we sub him on he does try to put in a shift. He just has that lack of concentration a lot of times like for that video earlier, and doesn't have the mentality for big games. Those 2 aren't really something that can just get fixed with a click, its part of him imo. Would be more excusable but still a big criticism for more talented players, let alone with his weaknesses.

Sanchez, Lukaku, Mata... we'd be better off without all 3 IMO. They have reputations and a wage like they should be key players yet struggle to make an impact as squad players. Best for all to move on so they all go to clubs that better suit them/more their level.

Should be busting a gut when he comes on to try and win his place back but he looks the most sluggish on the pitch. He’ll NEVER be what we need.

If we move those players, we'll free up enough wages to get genuine world class players in. If Woodie gets a proper DOF in, next season could be a very exciting one

He didn't have a ton of time but I was still disappointed with what he did in that time. Really expected better when he had that chance to take on the defender and work the keeper.

Just doesn't seem all that dangerous anymore.

Got to be a mentality issue. He was tracking back into our own box last season. If he keeps on putting out these performances then he doesn't have the fight, he's no longer starting every game and can't handle it.

It just really annoys me that the big paychecks are blocking Greenwood and Gomes from the bench. Much prefer both of these to get some minutes

Came on for 10 minutes, couldn't even be bothered running to protect a 1-0 lead.

Thought he did ok today, looks better on the right flank

Don't think we are getting 75m worth of value out of him, but he is doing a job as a back up option. Not seen anything to show he iseiryh keeping beyond the summer

He huffed and puffed out there like a 50 a day smoker.

And he’d only been on 10 minutes!

You don't have to play football to understand what players are doing on the pitch. Strikers tuck themselves in between defenders all the time. While the rest of the team plays around the striker. Yes he is occupying defenders, because they can't come out and defend other players when he's there.

The fact that people are micro analysing that pass is laughable. It was just a miscommunication between Young and Lukaku.
You just answered the reason why that particular moment and there's lots of moments this whole season was a sh|t moment of play from Lukaku.

He can do that when he has team mates (emphasis on the plural there) dominating possession and playing around him. In that situation when the team is gassed, there might have been a counter attacking opportunity and he literally only has Young and Martial in his near vicinity, he decided to jog into no man's land and amongst 3 defenders.

Call it whatever you want, miscommunication, dumb game intelligence, low on confidence etc but that was just one of many fundamental things he has done poorly this season.

Not sure how he already looked out of breath in just few minutes. Not sure how he is so big but so bad at holding and protect the ball. He looks as lazy as Berbatov but berba was 5x the footballer.

Definitely interesting to think about how much we’d really be affected by replacing Sanchez, Mata and Lukaku with Gomes, Chong and Greenwood.

I'm wondering, does he have health issue? I don't think anyone that make it a pro doesn't have self awareness on his own physical condition.

Red Card for Casemiro!
Thanks Gilford.

This moment had me fuming. How is that acceptable at all? You're a 90m striker who's just come on to fight for your place when the team needs a goal or needs to kill time. You ought to be buzzing around dragging out everyone out of position.

In that moment you have to get in behind for a through ball. At the very least you offer some hold up while others run past you. Worst case scenario, you receive, pass back and go back to cosplaying a statue again. He did nothing, not even move towards the ball. That lazy jog once his ball was intercepted - embarrassing.

We should cut our losses as soon as possible. He's so bad he's not even a squad option. Rather see a youth academy player.

Bin him in the summer to raise funds for Pepe or Sancho, can he do anything other than lumber about the pitch?

That's what I expected when he came on. That clip too, it's clear as day he's got to make the run to give Young an easy pass, maybe even gets him into a scoring position. What the feck is he thinking? It blew my mind. I want to see him do well, loved the promise from that Arsenal cameo but this was just ridiculous.

He looks lazy with the weight and beef he has added to his frame, and I think that's why he is struggling.

Movement wise poor, look sluggish at start of sprints, shoots at the keeper as defender closes him down with ease.
