Were not very good at cheating tbh. Cynical teams get too much joy from referees against us. We should practice diving or something.

Why do people say we lack quality?

Which positions could we improve? RB and RW?
Both full back positions, probably one centre back position, right wing and Martial and Rashford need a bit more experience under their belt. Before you tear into me, that's just what I feel needs to improve before we can seriously contend at this level, i.e. against a true European top side. We may get there, but this match is a bit early for this side.

Don't really understand the 'shit the bed' atmosphere in here. It's a glorified cup game - if we lose because they're just better than us, feck it. Just hope we score some goals to make it enjoyable.

As much as PSG are combatting our left flank with two full backs and a man-marking job on Pogba, could someone politely let Martial know he’s playing in the last 16 of the Champions League. One of his disdainful performances so far where he won’t run for any ball bar the perfect one.

Pogba needs to use his maturity and status within the team to free himsef from his marker. Either switch with Herrera, or drift wide and allow Martial to attack the free space created centrally.
Martial has been poor, but PSG have defended that left side really, really well and hes had no space to operate in.

    Give peas a chance.
The people on here expecting us to turn PSG over like they were a bottom half Prem side need a serious reality check.

It's been a nervy 45 minutes, and we've not really hit the heights we've seen in recent weeks, but we're still very much in this game.

    C'mon lads!!!

I think that Ole wanted to press high and blast them away in the first 25 mins, but they have done a great job in closing down Pogba, Martial and Rashford. And when we lose the ball, it's a 2 quick passes and Mbappe is away. Young will be lucky to stay on the pitch for the entire second half. I dunno if Dalot would be a better option with his pace. It's so tight the margins, and I think it is a night for someone with genuine world class ability to change the game. Could that be Sanchez?
Yeah, they’re doing a good job of keeping our dangermen quiet.

    De Gea
    Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera Matic Fred
    Sanchez Rashford Pogba

I'd do this 2nd half. Martials been poor for once and now probably injured. Give Pogba that free role.
Would not complain. Just leave Mata on the bench please.

It's not fatigue issue. We're fecking pressing them pretty highly and managed to pull out mistakes from their defense one or 2 times. The problem is Martial needs to get himself involved more in these games. He's still capable of brilliance moments and can go on and score, but he needs to move more imo.

Also Lingard is just proving it's inevitable to upgrade over him in summer.

Away from both and Young, can't fault anyone's effort. Very competitive match and a tie that can go both ways.
Definitely not fatigue, they are fitter and quicker than some of our oldies and overweights and some who doesn't put the same effort without the ball.

Defensively they've got tons of experience and that's showing. They're not carrying anybody defensively either what with Mbappe playing as a striker and Neymar boning his sister

Martial and Shaw has let us down so far. Dani Alves and Kehrer are weak links to this psg side and we are not applying enough pressure to that side. PSG are weak out wide and we seem to be playing to narrow. Hopefully, Sanchez will be able to change that.
They are not letting us play through our left hand side and forcing us to play through our right side

Neymar ain't coming back I think but Cavani probably will. They're much better at their ground
I'd read that Neymar would be fit for the 2nd leg but if not, Cavani is a big worry up front alongside Mbappe. Hopefully Ole can change things around a bit and sharpen up our play from midfield going forward. Pogba is having a quiet game and needs to step up a gear.

Our defense and midfield has been fine overall, our attack has been wank. So many breaks wasted due to some general sloppiness. We need a new RB desperately.

One thing that's a bit worrying as that after the first couple of games under Ole where we were a possession heavy team, playing quick little intricate passes, now we've slowly transitioned to a counter attacking team.
Being adept at multiple styles isn't a bad thing.

We were never going to keep 70% of the ball in every game.

Why do I feel like had Neymar and Cavani started We'd have created more chances?

They're pretty defensive, only come out to play on the counter with 2 man at max and their midfielders rarely go up.

Agree with this too, we’ve been here so many times before. This could go either way. feels like one of them matches where a moment of quality decides it.

No I just think PSG will be a lot better for the next one. I’m also very worried they will have a favorable decision after tonight.
Why would PSG be better and not us?
Plus the apprehension of conceding an away goal could lay heavy on their heads.
I think that's a reason why we're taking more touches with less movement tonight.
    Wait and see I suppose.

Ole's in a tough spot re: Young. One one hand, he's up against both Bernard who's getting forward well and Di Maria, who is not going to be looking for much to hit the deck.

But, you've used one sub already and Martial is hobbling.

For me you still take off Young at the half, but given his age and experience, maybe you have to trust him.

that's because we are and it's exactly what I came to post

Rashford, Martial and Lingard have never had a game like this with this expectation

Pogba has huge responsibility on his shoulders but PSG doing a great job on him

    good test for us

just hope we don't get anyone sent off in our naivety
Only able to see first half in bits and pieces but that is what it looks like. In my opinion European football is all about patient possession which is not our style to begin with and combine that with the relative inexperience.

I think we win with 3-0 if it gets a really cool night. 5.0 C or preferably colder would be perfect. If it is warmer they will probably have one or two goals, then it will be a tough match away.
    What temperature is it tonight?

We just aren't smart. We've gave away 4 fks with PSG players running towards their own goal by SMALL pushes in the back, but they know to fall over.

Jesse was running towards his own byline, back to goal, got a wee push, stayed up, pass to young who gave them the ball back.

Play smart, don't push them, if you get pushed, fall over!

I think he's tried to play with an iniury and now Lingard's gone off we're probably stuck with him

I hope that it never happens but this linesman delaying the flag (after an obvious off-side) will be re-addressed the first time a keeper gets put in hospital because play has been allowed to continue.
What's the story there? The commentators mentioned something about delaying the flag but I didn't catch all of it.

Lingard the only one in attack left with some credit, Martial absolutely pony and Rashford getting bullied. Young has gotten stuck in despite obviously lacking quality.

Matic, Herrera and Pogba have been fantastic.

Mata and Sanchez warming up on the pitch during the break. Looks like Martial will be coming off too :( The Frenchman didn't look right after that injury in the first-half.
