If your keeper has twice made a song and dance of being injured, with penalties imminent, it's not unreasonable to bring him off.

The goalkeeper has really twisted the knife on his manager. He might not have meant it, but was unforgivable.

Naive like what ? Has Hazard ever publicly humiliated and discredited his coach like that ? The answer is no
What type of power do you think he has in the dressing room? How many managers have to come and go?

Depends on the rules doesn't it. I mean obviously not dragging him off, but if he refuses can the referee give him a red card and order him off?

From my point of view that would have been the way to handle it, have him removed in a way which is legal, then send your keeper on for someone else who won't take a penalty.

Either way, Sarri backed down. He threw a tantrum yeah, understandable, but he didn't deal with it.
No, just tell the 4th ref the numbers of substitutions, and that's that. Kepa can signal what he wants, but when that digital monitor or whatsitname is up, he's out.
Just get the 4th official to hold the numbers up, did that even happen? if he then refuses get the captain over to have a word, or if needs be as you say drag him off, it seemed to me the situation was allowed to evolve through a clear lack of authority from Sarri.
As others have said, there's no rule that forces players to go off if they've been listed for substitution. Nothing Sarri could do other than shout at him.

Why? if another goalkeeper is statistically better at saving penalties but worse at everything else then it's just the same as any other tactical swap. You put the right player in the right situation.
Penalty stats are generally too small of sample sizes for it to matter much. In extra time your subs should be used to get fresh legs on.

They're booked for actively time wasting - Not refusing to come off.

Kepa isn't wasting time he's just not coming off. This isn't like receiving a red - There's no rule obligating a player to leave.

Moss was almost certainly telling Sarri that there's nothing he can do but has to play on.
Which is wasting time.

Kepa thought he wanted him off because of injury. You see players signalling to the bench that they're OK to continue all the time.
But it was clear that Sarri wanted him off anyway. He kept telling him to come off even after Kepa indicated several times that he was OK.

Subbing GK is an idiotic trend that needs to end. I understand why Kepa was pissed.
It might be idiotic and he can be pissed if he likes but if the manager wants to sub you off, you go off.

If that club doesn't give Kepa a hefty fine and long period without play, good luck to them finding a top manager that would want to take over this mess.

It's got feck all to do with what Kepa just did, whatever happens off camera is pure speculations but what Kepa did, in a final, is unprecedented. I cannot believe I'm arguing this.

Not really. I would walk. It's one thing something happens behind the scenes, but to be publicly humiliated like that?
He's no less humiliated if he walks now, though. He just becomes a problem Chelsea don't have to pay their way out of.

Sarri's going to gain a hell of a lot of sympathy and regard in the footballing world for this, and in that way, Kepa has done him a favour.

Sarri's been absolved for the season in that moment - once he calms down, he may see this as a blessing.

Am I the only one who thinks the world is over reacting? I didn't watch the game but saw the video and gifs.

The guy just played his first final and was clearly telling the bench he was perfectly fine to continue. Any keeper would be raging unless it was already the plan to bring on a penalty saving expert (LVG in the WC).
So why don't all players do that when there number comes up to be subbed?

Just because he's a keeper doesn't give him special rules

Yeah, you’re being naive. The fact he thinks he can pull something like that says alot about the dressing room.

He obviously thought they thought he was injured. He pleaded his case to stay on as he was healthy. It’s a nothing story and I’m sure it will get cleared once Kepa and Sarri sit down to talk.
You really think this?
I think one of them will be leaving in the next week. I'd be amazed if they just sit down and talk.

I guess it's okay for all players to refuse to go off now then.

Chelsea players should’ve picked Kepa up and carried him off. That’d have shown him

As it turns out, they're well within their rights do so, according to the rules. Which is amazing in a way, seems absolutely mad.

Sarri can literally feck about now until he gets paid off.

Kepa looks like a massive bellend, as do a lot of the Chelsea players.

This thing about a player not needing to come off sounds stupid. There's a manager for a reason.

Sarri should drop kepa until he is sacked.

Sarri's bailing Kepa out. Trying for damage control.

Definitely wants his pay off as he's holding his tongue - calmed down already.

Sarri must let rip at the player, if he does not he loses all credibility

The substitute is Willy Caballero who has a reputation for saving penalties..
Not only that... It's what you do. I can't explain it but if you ever played in a team before -- you'd know. And then totally undermining your manager... Christ.
