The cynic in me would say this is Mendes trying to get back at us for sacking Mourinho but the reality is this'll likely be De Gea's last big contract so he knows this'll be the last chance he gets to make serious money out of him

Mendes is probably happy - he stills got paid but now has the chance to arrange another huge job for Mou & another payday for himself. We treated Mou overly well given how much he ran his mouth/created negative headlines.

This is the most important piece of businesses we do all summer in my mind. Getting De Gea signed for the rest of his prime is more important then signing a centre half or winger . He is truly world class

"...negotiations continue to be protracted, with De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes recognising the strength of his bargaining position - particularly with European giants Juventus and PSG monitoring his situation.
United are prepared to meet the £350,000-a-week deal widely considered to be the terms he was seeking. But it looks increasingly likely they will have to exceed that offer to get a deal done."

Sometimes you just have to slap the big red wallet down and suck it up. It’s not like he doesn’t deserve it.

Make him a higher offer then. We waste about 500k a week combined on Lukaku and Sanchez ffs

How much more money does Dave want? Mendes taking us for every penny.

I love Dave, but honestly I'd be tempted to tell him to go elsewhere at this rate. He's great, but not worth more than what is being offered.

Yea, let our best player walk away for nothing when we are already struggling to close the gap between us and City. But atleast the moral high ground will be fun.

Until we look at our bench and see 2 of the top 5 paid players in the league sitting there doing bugger all

If Dave really wanted to stay he'd put a stop to Mendes' antics. How much more money should we pay him? He's not Messi.
We'd have 3 players on huge wages, 2 of them bloody useless. What about others coming in? It's not just about Dave.

After this, we should blacklist Mendes. No more players from him. It's not enough he got the useless Jose to rinse us, after we got feck all in return.
The club should never deal with him again.

And you wonder why he wants huge wages.

Hardly Dave's fault that these 2 are useless. Kepa gets around £200k according to reports and De Gea is at least twice the keeper Kepa is. I am sure De Gea is happy with our offer it's just that Mendes probably wants a massive cut as well. We sacked his client Jose so he is probably still sulking.

He is the Messi of goalkeepers and is the reason several of our recent bad seasons haven't been awful seasons.

He is a player at the pinnacle of his position. He has also been locked into a long term battle for champions League qualification in recent years, personally I'm grateful he is even interested in signing away the rest of the prime years of his career to a club that has let him down (on the pitch) in recent years. If he wants half of Rojo's salary as well as his own next year it makes no difference to me.

We have wasted absurd amounts of money on utter dross in recent years. Better to spend it on our keeping our one undisputably world class player imo. Take the money out of the Glazer's pocket and put it into Dave's.

Mendes is just doing his job for his client - de Gea has every right to demand top dollar. Keep in mind that it will probably cost the club 40-50m to replace de Gea with someone of remotely similar ability, if such a keeper is even available.

Objectively speaking he should probably have left the club a long time ago - thankfully he didn’t! Pay the man!

These might be just negotiation tactics... but pay him the money. If he stays another five years with us he's basically a club legend anyway.

I suppose you would blacklist Raiola aswell?

That's like half the transfer market closed to us then

Not gonna lie I am getting slightly worried by all of this. We cannot expect to catch up to the top tier again if we let our best players go.

Unfortunately in this situation we need to bow to the player and give him exactly what he wants.

PSG is the only real threat imo. With Buffon's age, De Gea's contract expires at the perfect time for them.

I know i have said "give him what he wants", but i am getting tired of this now. If 350k is not enough, the club should just let him go. Our defense has been the biggest reason for me wanting to keep de Gea whatever the cost, but if we can make our defense much stronger, we don't need some superman in goal. Clubs far better then us does so with goalkeepers not even nearly as good because they have a rock solid defense.

There's no a single GK in the world...for the quoted price who has the quality of DDG. Who we could buy? Oblak? He'll cost at least 70-80mil IMO. Not even sure he'll want to come here.

He will eventually sign since no one else is going to pay him more.
I pray you're right and he don't accept less in a better team and city/country.

He's not only the best keeper in the world, he has been very loyal to us through some shit years. Repay that and give him what he wants, it will cost a lot more to replace him anyway.

Is it De Gea who wants more money or is it Mendes? It looks from the article that United are pretty sure De Gea will agree to the 350k but Mendes wants some more for himself so he won't let De Gea sign or even look at the offer.

At that point, as much as I like De Gea, he has a choice to make. And I could well see us not reach an agreement. Wouldn't be the first time a deal's fallen through because of agent demands.

Considering kapa and allison went for 65+ mill, I highly doubt we'd sign a keeper who is closer to De Gea's level for 40-50 mil.

The exact numbers aren’t as important, my point was that a new quality keeper is going to be more expensive than re-signing de Gea.

Red Card for Casemiro!
What's 20-30k more in the grand scheme of things? I'd rather we tied down the clubs greatest GK down for the rest of his career. We're being exploited, yes. But so was Dave during the Moyes/LVG years.

The likes of Allison and Courtois is on 120k per week, yet De Gea is on 200k+ and wants a 150K increase? That's crazy, he is the best-paid goalkeepers in the world, there are not many clubs in Europe will pay for around 200k to 350k, I can't tell if De Gea want 350k or newspaper make up a bullshit story about his wage.

Whether we can pay his wages or not, I don't want our wage structure to be broken.
