Firstly, apologies it's the daily mail.

But this stuff fascinates me. Most of us have little idea how much work is put into preparation for a football match, so to get a small insight really is amazing.

I remember one years ago, ironically also by AVB for Jose, but against Newcastle. Just amazing to see how much detail these reports go into.

Its a definite improvement over hounding a referee to the point of him retiring, like he did the year before in that fixture.

"Remember - Marquez and Van Bommel out of 2nd leg if booked."

Is that code for 'try to get them booked'?

I wonder what our analysis of Barcelona and their analysis of us is... it could be so fascinating!

The bit about Oleguer.

Makes mistakes with the ball making him the ideal target to pressure. Defensively poor, has no pace and chooses his timings of tackles poorly. When he tries to recover is too late: no speed.
Can't breathe.

It’s more “play through them more because they might hold off in fear of getting booked”. Mourinho wouldn’t care if Van Bommel was out of the next round.

While that year strategy seems to have been 'hack Messi to bits' and 'farm potatoes in the pitch so Barca cannot play free flowing football'. It served well the shitcnut.

You mean the Frisk gate? Chelsea got robbed. No point in arguing this.
The false allegations that Frisk invited Rijkaard into his office, leading to death threats from the Chelsea mutants is probably worse than getting a sending off wrong, though.

Obertans #1 fan.
“If we lose make sure to insult club’s heritage and criticise the history of the club”

Can’t believe he wrote that.

Not exactly positive about Puyol. That's how I remembered him too back then. Guy's reputation skyrocketed after retirement.

Many notes. Still lost.

Anyway, this threat reminded me how fecking great 2005-2006 Barça was and how much I enjoyed the 2006 UCL final. 2006 and 2015 much better than 09/11 for me. I feel no empathy at all towards Arse or Juve.

It says in this article these notes weren't written by Jose though. They were for Jose, whose job it was to get the relevant information across to the players and make a plan around it.

If there was still such a lack of clarity, maybe that's why none of our players looked like they had a clue what they were meant to be doing.

Impressive but not surprising. Attention to detail was the common point when their players describe both Mourinho & Guardiola years ago. That's why they dominated the last decade and the half or so. I'm sure there are a lot of detailed reports from Pep's preparation for the games over the years too. Just wonder how much of that is focused on their playing style rather than the opposition though. He's too protagonist compared to Jose.

Is Jose leaking impressive stuff about him to the press so that somebody hires him? bite

This is not a thread about how great Barcelona is/was. You can carry this stuff in the Messi vs Ronaldo thread where apparently barca fans are claiming that Ronaldo had a better team behind him to support.

Title of the thread:
Jose's notes on Barcelona 2006

I mean, Jose's notes are directly about that Barça squad. And how the notes were not enough to knock them out. Plenty of opportunity to talk about Barça's 2006 Strengths and Weaknesses while reading Jose's notes.

Not sure what the Messi vs Ronaldo thread has to do with it. Or current Barça.

Regardless of winning or losing everyone at this level has to study the opponents.
