I'd love to see us sign De Ligt, Wan-Bissaka, Sancho, Koulibaly, Rabiot, Tierney, Saul, Hudson-Odoi and N'Dombele and get rid of Jones, Rojo, Darmian, Valencia, Young, Bailly, Herrera, Mata, Lingard, Sanchez, Matic and McTomminay.
I'd also like to swap my car for an Audi R8, my semi detached for a mansion, my beer belly for a six pack, my balding head for some luscious locks and my imaginary girlfriend for Jessica Alba or one of them classy birds off the 900 channels.
Pretty sure though that both United and me will plough forward with a lot of the same shortcomings into 2020

This all seems too logical and sensible for it to be true, but I actually believe it for once as I'd assume by now the club must have learned? Surely they can't follow the formula since Fergie left it and hope it works.

If we can get £30 million for Bailly we need to take it.

not too excited with the young, British core to be honest. Hope Solskjaer won't try to out-Fergie Fergie, we need class, ready to go, serial winners, to which we can then add young prospects. We had a promising, theoretically, spine of De Gea - Pogba - Lukaku, all of whom are in some doubt for various reasons. Seems a risky strategy to plan to build a winning team on young players like Rashford, Sancho, Martial. Ole must realize he won't get 3-4 seasons to build a team.

Pay Sanchez out all the wages we owe him then swap him with Chelsea for CHO. Include a fee if Chelsea want one, he's worth it. You're welcome Ed.

Absolutely love some of the fans getting scared because of all the players bought in are English /British

So glad it's not the way they want it to buy every single French player that we can get for under 100m

He will get plenty of time if it’s evident we’re going in the right direction, the footballs good and we’ve got a identity again. Seems a way way off at the moment though.

Don't buy into the theory about this coming out ahead of renewals. The ground would be full next season irrespective of signings and the gate isn't even that big a factor in our finances.

We'll definitely make signings but I just don't see 5 elite (talents) coming in.

If we get a No DEAL Brexit l, will European players find it harder to get work permits? Wondering if there's another angle to this British Core thing.

Add Godfrey and Aarons.
Should go for Chilwell too. I reckon we need 5 signings, but can only see us making 3 for some reason.
Being able to offer AWB, Chilwell and Rice European football and improved wages will be good (and they will defo get game time). CHO would be hard esp if Munich are after him. Can see Sanch obeing difficult without CL football. (I could however see City going for Chilwell)

I would be delighted if we pull this off. Sancho, Rice, AWB, Varane/Kouilabaly and hopefully Saul would really elevate our squad. Love the idea of having a young talented British core. We seem to be going in the right direction.
I dont get why folks are doubting Woody, the last time rumours like these were abound, we ended up buying Di Maria, Falcao etc. During Mou's tenure all the talk was from the manager not the management.

Stupid question alert!

What is Pogba supposed to bring to the team?

The reason I ask is that in this thread people have mentioned:

- we need a creative midfielder
- we need someone good on the ball
- we need someone to control the tempo
- we need someone who can unlock defenses
- we need a leader.

Isn't this what Pogba was brought in to do?

Finally (another genuine question) why is Pogba deployed on the left? If he is so talented why isn't he in the centre of midfield and given license to roam and control the game as necessary.

I promise you this is not an anti Pogba post but I am slightly confused as to what his remit is, what his responsibilities are and how we are currently using him.

Is his role likely to change with the arrival of new signings?

Not a chance lingard leaves. Nor should he. Hes a squad player, a valuable one at that. People get annoyed when hes seen as a key player but that's not normally his role.

 “Found some form” how you can take that tone when this comes across like a typical post of someone not wanting to rate a player due to their nationality.
Him being English has nothing to do with why I don't think he's needed. He is a one dimensional player, and a one-dimensional destroyer is not going to add the creativity and control our midfield needs.

Too many young players targetted. We need players for today who can come in and perform next season not 5 years down the lane. Hope he gets it.

Signing gems are fine but do hope we get some senior players as well.

Solskjaer is right to look at moving players on just not sold the wisdom of him wanting a British core.

We pathetically lose to someone > Fans come to senses and start asking the right questions > Ed briefs the media about something > Fans get distracted by the brief.
Rinse, repeat.

Rather have Tierney than Chillwell. But spending £50m on Chillwell is not smart, considering we have a number of other positions that needs some £££ attention.
We should wait a season before signing Sancho, maybe a similar deal that Liverpool had with Leipzig over Keita.

My biggest concern is by far the midfield.

I'm not entirely sold on Rice yet either. If McTominay can be as good as he was against Wolves in a few more games this season then that could force a re-think. Bit more pace and dynamism is what we need in midfield. None of our current crop, Pogba included, really offer that.

Its not like the British talent being targeted is crap. Sancho is probably the best attainable RW, AWB has been solid and one of the best RB in the league this season. Only Rice is a bit debatable.

I don't understand these 'press briefings' (IF this is what has happened - i really don't know). What do the club stand to gain by saying they are looking at x amount of signings, and naming these players?

Is it to appease the fans?

Because if you wanted the best chance to bring in these players, surely announcing it to the world isn't the best tactic.
I agree and I seem to remember David Gill didn't go about it like this. In fact we were great at signing players by stealth...

I don't think it's about nationality, more the fact that he wants players who will definitely adapt to the league, understand it, feel at home culturally etc. Also less likely to pine for Spain.

I agree that maybe too much is made of British players when it comes to United though. It's probably a by product of the Class of 92, when in reality they succeeded because they were talented. That's one reason why we had so many British players for so long.

Doesn't it make sense to hire a DOF before this Muppet spends more money.

No let's get one in after we've got our manager and spent a wedge on players.

I like Sancho, but not sure he is the type of attacking player we need. Think we need a more dominant winger with higher creativity. Would certainly want him too though.

He can carry and protect the ball while moving forward quickly. He has a good passing range and vision. He can score and create goals around the area. He can increase tempo with runs and passing.

He's not a leader, he can't slow the game down, he isn't great defensively.

So if we got someone with energy who could tackle + someone who can keep possession with tight control and short passes this would be ideal for Pogba.

It's not as if we are coaching the players. Weird thing for fans to be excited about. Plenty of people want youth to progress to the first team too.
My point being that we get over excited at the prospect of new signings. We sign a player and instead of being excited about how they progress and develop, we are already dreaming of next summer's transfer window and drawing up dream teams with new players.
