Two goals could have been prevented.

De Gea at the top level is suspect.
He definitely has some sort of hex related to Spain doesn't he! Which is why the Spanish don't rate him as highly as we do.

Is there any way we avoid the Europa League by finishing sixth?

Playing the same team largely in the same formation and style and getting the same shit performances and results. Shock horror.

Ole touched upon a formation that seemed to work and reverted back for some reason. At least fail doing something new rather than the same old shit, at least then we might learn something.

Young - Just retire. One of the worst performances of a Captain for United I have ever seen. Every pass slow or misplaced. Every decision poor. Directly led to key goals.
Barcelona were not amazing; They just played the way they do.
We were just terrible after the mistakes.

Something that is really apparent is that Pogba doesn't have it in him in these big games. WC final or not, you need to perform at a decent level yourself and only then can you even think of grabbing a game and you have to make possession count.
Slow in thought; petulant and thoroughly poor.

I do want to commend Jones, Smalling, Lindelof, Fred and McTominay. Especially Fred. Poor lad.
Rashford wasvery bright but has alot of work to do.

Our touches and possession is off because we are a disjointed team. Every touch is slow in thought and hesitant.

I will say one final thing; this reminded me a little bit of the time we were hammered by Barca in the 90s under the 3 foreigner rule; Might well be the catalyst to better days. We have good young lads good on the ball coming through.

Sanchez looks good for a start on Sunday with that moustache.

To be fair this was a bad result but mostly we were let down by individual errors . I felt we played well in the 1st 60 minutes inspite of the 2 goals . There seemed to be a plan and quick passes were made but we just didn't make use of it . Pogba was mostly average but still he created 2 crucial chances which should have been put away . I am sorry but Ole should realise that Rashford is not good enough to start as a lone striker . He is too selfish and mostly underwhelming . Also Lingard should not be anywhere near the starting 11 . Martial needs to do something in the attacking half I don't know what but atleast show that you are making an effort .

Our fullbacks are a disaster and they seem to let us down a lot . I hope we sign atleast one versatile full back this summer . The midfield was fairly ok considering the level of opposition they were up against . Fred seems to be growing in stature with every game which is good news for us in coming weeks .

The better team won. What can you do. We were always gonna need a rebuild. A proper one.

Hard to not knee-jerk but I don't believe we'll have a much better season next year. We have too many mediocre or finished players.

Fred did ok, Jones aswell. We had a good start but two brain-farts fixed that. Young has been terrible for several games now. Let's see if Ole has the balls/brains to bench him for the remaining games.

Solid first 5-10 minutes, and then Ashley Young happened but this was a game that United never should have been in to begin with, same with the PSG game to be honest. It's easy to turn on Ole now, because I was always curious to see how the team would respond once the honeymoon phase was over, but I don't think it's fair. Sure, you can slag him off for some of his tactical choices, the way he sticks with Ashley Young being the main one for me this game, but really this team is in serious need of an overhaul and it's going to take a very busy summer to see whether Ole can grow with this team or if it was a mistake to hand him his contract.

Yes there are, don't conflate these things. But it's a pattern you do almost always after a bad loss, always with some botched attempt of irony. Anyway, don't forget posters were calling for SAF to be sacked before.
I dont know what else to do. United is shit and this place is bonkers.

Predictable result.

Young, Martial and Lingard were absolutely terrible (which was also predictable).

Our core is non-existent. No spine whatsoever. Tells you a lot when Fred looks streets ahead of Pogba in the crucial phase of the season. Forwards young and learning or shite, defenders so-so. We can get away with Smalling as one of the CBs but badly need leaders in the middle and a top class forward. Wings to be replaced bar Shaw and I'd give Dalot a go.

Basically at least 5 massive transfers (AND leaders) to make if we are to return to the top.

Nothing to get angry/emotional about. Our limits are there to be seen. A postive beginning, didn't finish our dinner but thanks to trashley and De Gea the game was over inside 20 mins and the tactical plann left in tatters. poor/average Barcelona compared to previous barcelonas is still better than us.

I'll repeat myself for the millionth time but as long as the Glazers are owners and people like Woodward and his cronies run the club we will be shite. Fecking depressing.

4 of that back 5 started against Basel in 2011 when we were knocked out in the group stage. 8 seasons ago. Eight.
Truly incredible.

It's like it doesn't matter who we buy, or who manages us, we still end up with the Young-Smalling-Jones axis!

I doubt anyone gave you shit. Everyone knew it was flukey af but we had so many injuries so of course a miracle was needed.
No, people were legit upset and said we fully deserved the result. Most people were on board that we played a great, heroic game or something. I think it looked like the players had yellow fever, were jogging around and PSG fecked it up monstrously. Needless to say one of the weridest games of the decade.

Started well, had the stuffing knocked out of us courtesy of our own woeful defending and never recovered against a vastly superior team. Young having to play for us in big games is a travesty, Pogba's 'frustrated' mode is so fecking annoying, Jones, McTominay and Fred had a go but were outgunned and the front three struggled on scraps but are too often nowhere near clinical enough for us.
Yes. They had a go, that seems to keep some happy. They are still nowhere near being the class of player we need.

Saw the match till the third goal. We started off well. It could have been different if we had not gifted them two goals. But when you have players like Young starting every game, you are bound to make mistakes.

Manchester United and Captain Ashley young are a match made in heaven.

Fecking disgrace, top to bottom. The men who run this club have ruined it.

An accurate reflection of where the club is at at present.

United have no clear vision as to what type of football they want to play. Again this is understandable a mish mash of managers and philosophies and a mish mash squad bought by four different managers.

Our lack of movement is astounding. Slow pedestrian football. Martial and Pogba constantly slow the game and lack any sense of urgency. Work rate is pior in too many areas of the pitch.

Positives - McTominay. The fact he bowled Messi over when Messi started show boating brings him up in my estimation. A Fergie style player, skill and bite. If only we had more of it on the pitch.

He has let go ronaldo and messi's shots through.
The sad thing with that second goal tonight is if you watch Young.
He goes to scarper wide, seeing what a peeroller it is, and to receive the throw, instead stopping dead in shock.

Fair play to Barca, they're a lot better than us.
Hopefully they go onto win the whole thing.
We know our limitations, it's onto Woody and the glazers to give us even more to spend.

Insane how we started off so well and then it all came crashing down. Ashley fecking Young is a disgrace, I hope I never see him in a red shirt ever again. Then DDG with an absolute nightmare of a mistake that killed off the game for us. From that moment on all heads were down and the team spirit was dead. I cant really judge the rest of the lads after the second goal, it was a deathblow for an inexperienced team that has no real winners on the field with the exception of Pogba (in terms of winning big trophies).

I think the formation and gameplan at the start were good but we did not have a plan B. I dont want to judge Ole too harshly but I am truly baffled by him starting Young yet again. Its a terrible run for us and the frightening thing is that it could actually get worse since the coming run of PL games is difficult. All in all its a shit fecking night.

Anyone else expected anything different?

But I guess I just hoped we wouldn't give them 2 goals, at least.

Was hard to watch.

What's the worst I think that Barcelona didn't even play in their first gear these 2 matches. There were moments of individuall brilliance but as a team they're capable of much more.

As for United, new contracts for Young and Jones, says all about the direction of the club.

Guardiola dodged a bullet when he turned us down. Klopp too. Van Gaal was spot on when he said that we are a business first and foremost and not a football club.

This could very well have been the result without the errors but the most frustrating part is that we just gifted them 2 goals, when we looked like the better team.

And you can laugh at Souness all day long but he does have a case with Pogba being unreliable too often.

Great start, we could have made it interesting but our lack of a killer instinct in front of goal cost us that. Then the errors, unforgivable.

Their class showed in the end, and ultimately the result was not in doubt. But to go down in this way is frustrating.

For a little perspective:

1 is David De Gea
1 was 19 years old
1 was 20 years old

To be an optimist, it was a free crack at a team as good as Barca given that we weren't supposed to get past PSG. A good opportunity to learn something about our team. Sadly, we learnt nothing, but we did get to reinforce a lot of things we already knew

  • Ashley Young is a liability. The only argument left in his favour was that he brought experience to the team. To make such a mistake was unforgivable really. Finished at this level
  • Our right side has been a disaster for too long now. Its comical really for a club of our size. Really difficult to understand how it can happen
  • Lingard is not good enough to start for this club
Now the real dilemma:

  • Pogba, Lukaku & Martial - all of these players are valuable and there is a real argument in favour of binning at least two of them and really rebuilding this team. It would probably be a mistake to let Pogba go but it might well be a blessing in disguise should he end up going
Should we end up outside of the top 4 then I hope we are brave with our decisions in the market and make this a moment that we rebuild this team

On the plus side I'm becoming increasingly fond of Fred. I think he could end up being a really good player for us

Let's be honest, we were never going to win the CL. Now focus on what actually matters for salvaging our season, top 4 finish.

Today has proven that we are so far away from being ready to compete for Europe or even the premiership title currently. When we don’t qualify for the champions league by the end of this season we will very much struggle to sign players capable of helping us to mount a challenge.

Young and Lingard did not deserve to play this game. Never on merit.

Ole's made two horrible starting 11 selections over the two legs. Playing players out of position. Luke Shaw at CB for the first time in his career against fecking Barcelona.

Lindelof playing right back when you have Dalot or could even play 352 with Young and Dalot?

This one's on Ole aswell. Can't always just e blinkered and blame the players.
