Arsenal still have a good chance to get in the Champions league. There season certainly isnt over. I wouldnt laugh at them just yet. Have a feeling Chelsea will finish 4th and Arsenal will win the Europa and they will both get it.

So the same thing that got Wenger the sack pretty much (minus a League Cup final)?

If he has another season like this next year, Arsenal should get rid.
It's the level Arsenal are at now.

They last challenged for premier league serious in 2008? (2013-14 they were out by early March).

Criticising him for not doing more than Wenger is a bit like slaughtering Pep for his first season at Man. City when he didn't have the full backs to play his game and so only finished a place higher than Pellegrini the previous year. Klopp also took a good 18 months to really get Liverpool playing the way he wanted.

I would judge Emery in a years time. Problem is Arsenal bizarrely don't see to have much of a transfer fund anymore even though they make millions on a matchday.

Emery is doing fine. A good chef still needs the good ingredient to make a good dish. He is doing what he can with the players he has. He is only a head coach, not a manager. I don't know what happened to the club but Arsenal has about the same transfer budget as Leicester nowadays.

There's no badge of honour for being in that disgraceful race. It's nothing Wenger couldn't have done.
Indeed, no honour at all. But every Utd fan on here would take it.

And to be fair, it’s Emery’s first season. So perspective is needed.

But perspective in football fans is generally one dimensional and bias.

My own take on disgraceful is having spunk”ED” £350million on a squad in 3 years, have possibly one of the top 5 managers in the world at the helm of that and have the shite that is Arsenal still ahead.

The beauty of this season is that with two games to go, it’s still all there for 4 teams to go for it. And the top spot’s still to play for!

Now that’s entertainment!

And that’s what footballs for after all.

Nightmare scenario this. We'll end up being the only one out of CL out of all the top 6. Combine this with Liverpool winning CL and City winning the league, or Liverpool winning the double instead, and I will want to erase this season out of my memory forever.

I think they'll finish 5th and win the EL. Chelsea will finish 4th now with Spurs in 3rd.

Seems like Emery still doesn't know his best XI or how he wants to set his team up. He's been a bit of a mixed bag so far and I've found some of his team selections baffling. He's inherited a poor squad with a weakish squad and limited resources to rebuild so he's doing ok considering.

This is around about where I expected Arsenal to be at this stage of Emery's first season.

Barça made a good deal.
Do you think he’ll be seen in a Barca shirt again?

Given his performance or lack thereof with us while on loan, he won’t be seen in an Arsenal one again.

We're spending all our cash on wages. Ozil 350k, Mkhitaryan 180k and none of them contributing

They must be amazed they can be so largely mediocre, lose 3 in a row, and STILL quite incredibly have a chance to get in via the league!

It really beggars belief we can be so shite, mediocre and rubbish, and yet still ahead of Utd.

We did basically waste half a season and sacked our manager. That should make you wonder about how you've been to only have a 1 point lead is it?

It's been a truly shocking season for us, you and Chelsea. We'll all do well to stop the little gang just below pushing us further down

It needs to be mentioned that we're without Ramsey, Bellerin and Holding arguably our best players in their positions when they're not out injured.

Emery is a bit shite.
Shite surely not, it's the first season after a legacy from Wenger. Of course it wouldn't be easy.

We have probably the worst wingers in the Premier League, no LB for 4 at the Back.
There is no balance in the squad.

That's a shocking effort at a quote

But do you not think we had a shambles of a half season then?

I'd say it's less a surprise Arsenal are ahead of us, and more a surprise it's by 1 point, wouldn't you?

It was, but I’ve gone away and come back new and improved:lol:

I do think it was a shambles, but more importantly, I think it was your players not doing their jobs. I think they downed tools and now they’re at it again. That’s quite the issue to overcome, and 100’s of millions won’t fix it. There seems to be a negativity creeping into Utd from all areas.

Arsenal have had more opportunities than we deserve to be even in with contention, and really should have capitalized on others failings, but our own mistakes have cost us.

Neither of us have had a stellar season, and considering all the issues we’ve both have and had this season, it’s mind boggling we’re still both in with a shout.

Neither will deserve top 4, but feck it, I’ll take it if we get it.

When I look at the squad Arsenal got I am not really that impressed though. They got two good strikers and Ramsey pretty much as top quality players. The rest of the midfield is very average and the defense is not great either.
I think we have a much better squad than them so overall they have maybe done alright to be 5th.

I guess having a good attack can take you a fairly long way though even if I think a team like Leicester and Wolves probably got a better midfield and a defense of equal quality pretty much.

GK - Leno. He is doing great.
RB - Lichsteiner & Jenkinson are not competent as backup or provide competition for Bellerin for RB
LB - Monreal is too old as LB and mostly play as CB, Kolasinac is more a wing back and defending is not his strength. We asked Ainsley Maitland-Niles to "plug the holes" this season as either LB/RB
CB - Enough has been said about Mustafi, Kos is reliable but age is getting on him, Sokratis is ok given the transfer fee. Holding and Mavropanos are still young. We are ok in CB in numbers, but we lack quality.
CM - Elneny doesn't provide much on the field, Ramsey is leaving so only Xhaka, Guendouzi, and Torreira left. We lack quality and quantity.
Winger - Welbeck is always injured and will leave in summer. Iwobi and Mkhitaryan are the only option in the wing. Ozil and Aubameyang will play there too depends on formation. We lack quality in this department as well.
#10 - Ozil.
Striker - Aubameyang and Lacazette. This is the only area we are doing fine.

So given this squad i think Emery is doing quite well. I have no complaint. There are too many areas we need to improve but as always we have no money. So I set my expectation very low. This is an aging squad. Lots of players either over 30 or getting there.

This is exactly what will happen and we would be the only top club in England to miss out. Sad times.

I thought Arsenal would have backed their manager strongly last summer after Wenger left. When they appointed Emery, he seemed like a choice that would be content with lesser resources and so it proved. They signed players who provided competition but no-one who really stood out apart from Torreira. It seems they are now shopping in a different market and that Auba might be their last marquee signing especially if they continue not to make the CL. They will have to rely on good scouting and players under £30-40m, such as Guendouzi and Torreira who are good long-term purchases.

They have good players coming through their academy in recent years. Reiss Nelson will be a great addition to their squad next year and could arguably be their best winger straight away.

Has Emery improved them at all? At the end of the season all he may well of done better than Wenger did is win the EL in a season where the competition in said tournament was of a lower standard

Look at their squad, beyond their strikers and a player signing for Juventus next month it is abysmal for top 6 standard.

Arsenal fan above did very good analysis above.

Earlier in the season Iwobi and Mikhi had good spells of form but both have been awful recently when it was needed for them to step up.

There's only one United!
Do we have to start the Europa league earlier or can we qualify 5th and start later than Arsenal ?

Emery though seemingly brought in an upgrade in GK in Leno, an upgrade to the defence in Sokratis and an upgrade to the midfield in Torreira

Where's it got them?

It's all the one. 2 broken clubs.
At least there will be an overhaul at United, they can spend the money too.

Watch our summer. We will have maybe a budget from 70m and 100% sure, that players like Mikhi, Iwobi and Mustafi will play here next season too.
