As ever, Spurs are under-rated on this forum. We dumped City out of the CL - and they are probably the best team in Europe. We came back against Ajax when most posters on here had written us off.

We deserve to be in the final.
I find you're being quite defensive there. My post was nothing about not deserving their place but that United have fallen behind even Spurs. It's an indictment on United, the global giant it is should not be struggling like this for years.

We're the only team in the top 6 with nothing to play for... Pathetic
Yeah, this really really bothers me.

What’s more frustrating is that I know no higher powers at United will be in any way bothered.

If I was United owner, there would be a fecking response. I’d come out this transfer window all guns blazing. And transfer list at least 15 players.

United will just point to their sponsorship income and post Twitter videos of something Ashley Young did in 2012

Of all the criticism we have to throw at Utd, not reaching a CL final shouldn't be one of them

Why is the CL final being played so late? 3 weeks is an absolute age.

It’s not late, it’s played when all the domestic leagues in Europe are finished. Serie A finishes on 26/05.

Oh come on, Arse vs Chel-c is still not confirm, at least not yet, soon we'll see which two teams.
Impressive if it'll come to fruition.

I don’t think people mean to be offensive, of course you deserve to be there. It’s just that it’s inexplicable how Man Utd could have fallen so far behind.

No? Then who are?
Right now ? Easy, it's Liverpool.
It's a way to big your team up by saying that Man City is the best team in Europe and you just beat them... That makes no sense to me.
You cannot be the best in Europe while performing like that in Europe.
They're like PSG, great in the domestic league but seriously underwhelming in the biggest competition

City have been a nothing team in the CL for quite a long time now. Currently it's probably Pool after the Madrid decline.
True. Let's face it. They could even reach the 19-20 final again. Barcelona was literally the only boogey team standing in their way but they used the "Anfield/Believe" card to kill them. Hell, and I'm sure Valverde and Coutinho are both scouse sleeper agents, especially Coutinho.

They're really really not
It's debatable. The problem is people using cup competitions as an accurate gauge of quality. If you aren't top of your league or close, then going far in the CL means you're really good... at going far in the CL.

Who was the better side last year? City or Liverpool? Who's the better side this year? City or Tottenham?

But to definitively answer that question, I think City, Liverpool, Juventus and Barcelona are up there as the top 4 sides in the world. Who you select from that bunch is a matter of preference, although I'd be curious to know who would still back Liverpool as the best side in the world if they end up trophyless.

There is a difference to be made between league and cup competitions though. In the league, two draws are worth less than a 1-0 win and a 0-1 loss for instance, whereas in a knockout tie they are equal. Pool have drawn alot more matches than City in this regard. This is not to say that Pool are the better team in the league, but a team having more points (and it's not like there was a daylight difference between those two) certainly does not imply that they were better in general, just better in the league and vice versa. Also luck in the draw also plays a big role, but it's not like City were dropping out against prime Real/Barca all the time.

There is no debate here, Man City isn't the best team in Europe period. Man City has reached the semis only once, you cannot be the best team in Europe if your performances in the CL aren't consistent with being part of the last 4 teams.
Every year, with PSG they're seen as favorite and every year they underwhelm everyone.

The team that wins the league is the most consistent. Usually the team that wins CL is the one with the highest level, although that's not always the case. The short number of games means form and refs can have a massive impact

City have won more games though. By most metrics they're better. I do think Liverpool's CL run makes it debatable, I don't think it's clear cut as to who the better side is between the two.

Yeah and we're talking about quality when the term "best team" gets thrown about. A larger sample of games (especially in the best league in the whole wide world™) would be my first place to start when determining the quality of a team. Better sides lose one off ties all the time. Has happened to every top side in Europe in the past.

Honestly, if it was Real Madrid of 2014, Barcelona 2015, Pep's Bayern or Juventus with Pogba-Vidal midfield, they could have ripped Liverpool or Spurs apart.

Recently, City is the only club who's been more dominant consistently when you consider their performance, they created more chances, more possession and better team through 90 minutes in most of the games, they are just much better than Liverpool and Spurs. I feel like City could have gone to toe with Bayern 2013 to 2016, Real Madrid of 2014 or Juve 2015 to 2017.

The difference is City didn't have a much lucks on their shoulder like Spurs, United and Liverpool. More luck you have, more you'll have a chance of going through the next round.

Feels great. United might as well get booted out of the top six at this point.

Incredible stuff. I wonder how the future looks for the Europa League though. There will always be 1 or 2 English teams in it. Most other clubs in the EL can't compete.

It'll be quite common in the Europa imo with their only being 4 CL places for 6 teams that should be in it.

Usually a Spanish club wins it so not much of an issue there. But ya most EL clubs cant compete with the rich ones.

I'm actively, genuinely, desperately rooting for Spurs and Arse.

I feel Arsenal have underachieved in Europe in the last 30 years, and I'd hate seeing Liverpool with 6 UCL and Barça 5.
