Let's keep the Caf a Safe Place. Let's dwell on the past. Lets talk into the night about the United Way. Let's have re-runs of Cantona magic, Ole Opportunism. Dwight Yorke. Lets sing a song of '99. Let's talk about grey footage of Bestie besting the best of them, then swimming in the champers. Let's have Bobby Charlton caressing an 11-ton football full of rain into the back of a Chelsea net. Let's have lots of shots of short shorts, pitches made of solid glue, Denis Law and his knobbly knees. Let's have flat caps and men were men and half backs putting out their cigarette and squishing it into the sideline before taking a free kick. Let's have Nobby Stiles reducing Johnny Giles. Let's reminisce about Sir Alex and his way of dealing with conflict. Let's have patched-up Beckham bending the ball impossibly and Roy Keane bending the ref's ear and seeing red. Let's keep the music analogue and the winters cold. This will then become a secure zone. Sealed against climate change, Sky Sports, David Moyes, Rock of Gibraltar and ... no mention of Glass or Wood.

I remember the days when keepers kept the ball out, defenders defended, and thats it. None of this playing out from the back crap.

He was/is better than any wide player we've had post SAF.. Think about that for a minute
Crazy to think about that whole debate now. It’s like the old saying “you never know what you have until it’s gone”.

A prime Nani in today’s premier league is probably the best winger in the league with Hazard.

25 years ago, remember the whole day so clearly, when it seemed like the build up on the BBC would start around 8am.

We are now further away in time from Fergie’s first league winning side than they were from Busby’s European Cup winners:

Complete revisionism. He was extremely inconsistent. Had moments/months of being brilliant and then go back to his former self.

Way too many times he couldn't be relied upon.

I just said prime Nani 2010/11 and 11/12 Nani is head and shoulder above any winger in the EPL right now.

Okay sorry, I didn't read that. I agree about prime Nani for sure. I think we were right to sell him when we did though. By that time he just wasn't the player he was.

Not a LVG fan at all but don't blame him for cutting loose with Nani.

I miss the times when Michael Carrick was criticized for not being United quality and Gerard Pique rightly couldn't get a game.

All our younger players are on course to become significantly better than Nani though. Prime Nani around 25-26 was not better than say Martial in his first. He was never consistent and never kept as a starter with any of our manager, with Fergie believing in Valencia who was comfortably the better overall player.

No chance if you consider Son Sterling Sane Mane and Salah wingers.
10-11 Nani is no doubt better then Sane and the only season Mane had better then Nani was this current one BUT nonetheless all 3 of Mane, Salah, and Son aren’t really “wingers” the only proper wingers on that list are Sane which Nani is better then and Sterling which MAYBE might just edge Nani Right now. But ya I see what you mean.

When we'd batter some chumps 4-0 and be annoyed that it should have been loads more.

I'm afraid this is opinions young friend.

Nani was a different stratosphere to Martial in most elements. Martial won't get close to his supposed "potential" either. I'd be surprised to see him even still with us in 2 years.
Valencia could only play on the right, Nani could play on the left. Don't take that as meaning Valencia was better. Valencia was a consistency monster, didn't have the absolute highs of Nani, but none of the lows.

I'm also confused at your comment about "all" of our younger players.

Who else?
Rashford? Not really a good winger at all is he. None of the skills of Nani.

Anyone else?!

I think it's more worrying that we haven't had a right winger since Valencia moved back to right back. As that must have been about 6 years ago? Or more?
