Tbh I'd rather keep him until we have lined up and identified replacement first.
Yeah I agree. We can't just let him leave without a plan in mind. I really do feel we can undo some of the mistakes we have done in the past in this window. I know it's dumb but I have big hopes this summer!

The problem I have is letting Lukaku go and not replacing him which right now does seem like something that could happen. We need a RB, ok it seems AWB has been targeted. We need a CB, ok it seems like De Ligt and Maguire have been targeted. We need a CM, hardly anything on this so far. If we sell Lukaku we need to replace him and yet so far we've not been linked with any goal scorers. Who knows maybe a deadline move for Bale on loan will be the answer?
If we have told Lukaku he can go, I would assume the club has an idea what it intebtds to do with the extra ~ £70m. It's not like we will get nothing and I dont think it would be part of our budget.

A complete flat track bully. 1 goal in 20 against the top 6 for United. 1 Goal in the knockout stages of international tournaments. His record for Belgium is padded out against great names like Gibraltar, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica etc etc.

Sell him and get someone who is United level. He isn't.

I've never got this argument, he scores goals, I'd rather him score in 14 games against weaker opposition than in 6 games against the better opposition.
What use is it just scoring vs dross then? We could win that match without his goal and could just get much cheaper player without affecting the score. scoring vs good teams enables us to finish ahead of the other good teams we're competing against. If you only score vs weak teams then you should play in weak team and not in big team. Because these teams is in direct competing vs each other.

Don't think he's a priority on the chopping list but he clearly wants to go so feck him off. He's not half as good as he thinks he is.

UK, hun?
42 goals in 96 games for us, I wouldn't call that abysmal. He's scored 37 goals in the last 40 games for Belgium too. I'm still convinced he can be a useful player for us. There aren't that many top strikers out there that would be attainable.
Take a look at the teams he scored against! I'd imagine if we were planning on moving him on, we'd bring in his replacement prior to doing so (though I wouldn't bank on it).

There is very little argument for keeping Lukaku here given we're seemingly moving towards a more physically demanding style of game which he isn't up to beyond a 30 minute stint. He's among our top earners and he doesn't want to play second fiddle. Nonsensical to keep him.

For almost any other player I'd be adamant we give him the next 2 months to trim down and prove he can fit in a new, more dynamic system.

But my worry is how much football he's played already in his career. I think he's only going to slow down from here, despite being relatively young. Like Rooney.

It is no mystery that Romelu Lukaku is the attacker asked by Antonio Conte for Inter for revolution an attack department which, according to the ideas of the new technician, should no longer count on Mauro Icardi. A heavy confirmation comes from the words of the person directly interested in Sportmediaset : "Good that Conte went to Inter, for me he is the best coach in the world . As for my future, I have already made a decision that I still cannot communicate publicly out of respect for Manchester United with whom I have a contract ".

Much more than a wink to the Nerazzurri, the Belgian striker after the double win for Scotland in the Euro 2020 qualifiers seems to be seen elsewhere: "I am a big Serie A fan, those close to me know that I have always wanted to play in the English league and in the Italian one : I love Italy. And then Cristiano Ronaldo arrived, Sarri will go to Juventus, Ancelotti is at Napoli: it will be an exciting Serie A ". Lukaku is just waiting for a signal from Manchester United: "The club and my agent will talk about it but I have already made my decision."

Statements that follow others in mixed zones after the match with their national team: "My future? I have a contract with Manchester United, it's up to them to decide. I'll talk to the club and my agent to make the best decision, but in any case I am sure it will be a busy summer ".

Our top players all want out in the prime of their careers. Not saying Romelu is some world beater, but he is our best goal scorer. And he’s willing to take a pay cut to get out and play for Inter.

Because he's not first choice under Ole. He'd be happy to stay if he knew he was.

I hope so, he showed at Swansea he's aint a PL striker
That Swansea team scored a total of 27 goals that season. I think it was too early for him.
And his technical ability(still not great) and the overall game is much better now compared to when he played for Swansea.
His movement and positioning before crosses are good, works hard, mobile and he commits. Would be a good option against teams sitting low and when we have a number of crosses.

We'll surely bring in another forward. Haller or Dembele are most likely.
We are going to have to also get fernandes now and hope he goes anywhere near replicating his Sporting form.

He isn't taking pay cut.

You'd think he would show us more respect. Been running his mouth since before the PSG game.
Get rid asap.

After last nights game he was asked, 'will you still be a Manchester United player next season?' And he replied, 'it's up to the club you know. the club has to come out with statements. I'm not here to entertain any rumours.'

What does he mean by that? Is he saying that Ole and Ed hasn't told him whether they want him to stay or that he is waiting for UTD to make a public statement about his transfer to which ever club hes going too.?

He's always done this even at Everton, was running his mouth how he was better than Kane etc.

I think this is the one, in other quotes he seems to have said something along the lines not saying about where he is going in respect to the club. I think maybe we wanted to sign someone before announcing. We'll fecking good job then Rom, couldn't keep your mouth shut

Thank the lord your not a football manager!!
Who needs a goalscorer against the weaker teams anyhow eh? Let's just buy a striker to play against the top teams...
A goal is a goal no matter who it's scored against, or when it's scored.
Does anyone remember City winning the league by goal difference?
That sixth goal against United by Dzeko counted,

I've voiced my concerns and opinions over Lukaku plenty over the last two seasons, last season he simply wasn't good enough. Truth be told he is a good player but we've never suited his play style and he never suited ours, he lacked the technique to contribute to build up play like other great number 9s but he also seemed to be with us in a period where we were seemingly creating very little across the board with only Pogba consistently capable of chance creation.

That being said, we better have a very good replacement in mind, I won't have much confidence going into next season with Rashford as our only striker, Martial can cover there but he's had barely any time to develop as a striker, I'd almost be tempted to give Sanchez a game or two up front to see how he does. Lukaku can net us a sizeable fee and we'll need to use it wisely, 20 goal a season strikers are hard to come by. One silver lining, I suppose, would be less competition for Greenwood.

only openly "on the move" striker that would be an instant upgrade is Griezmann afaik??

Striker market has been pretty quite so far. Likely to change after this bombshell interview. But not sure whose openly looking for a move that is an instant starter for us?

He's too much of a frustrating player to realistically be the starting striker for any top 6 side in England. His contribution outside the penalty area is pretty meagre and there are just too many limitations in his game to justify persisting with him for another season, especially when he's one of the few players in the team who retains some resale value.

“Conte knows what I think about him. You know I’m not somebody who likes to talk about my personal relationship with managers, but I’m a Manchester United player,” the 26-year-old said.
“I have a contract and I have to respect my club. If something happens, you know, I think the teams and my agents have to do the talking. I just make my decision and stay out of it.”
“I was always a big fan of the Italian league. People close to me, they know I have two leagues that I always dreamed about, which is the Premier League and the Serie A, so you know, I love Italy,” he stressed.
“With the transfer of Ronaldo, the Italian league is now coming back. Now Antonio Conte going back to Inter, which is really good because, to me he’s the best manager in the world, and then you have Maurizio Sarri going to Juventus, Ancelotti at Naples. I think Serie A will be really exciting next year and I’m really happy for Italian football,” he added.
I fully trust sportswitness translations, he's 100% gone.
