The S*n are saying that we've finalised an agreement with Sporting for him and it's now onto contract negotiations. I've got to be honest; I hope I'm wrong because I'm not overly excited about this. His stats are good from last season but after watching a video of his goals and assists all I can see is a bunch of poor defending which resulted him him scoring or assisting. Can any Caftards help alleviate my concerns?
That's the kind of player you want. One who does the simple things well and can capitalize on mistakes when others make them. He needs to be in a position to benefit from poor defending, and he does that. It's what being an intelligent footballer gives you.

Can anyone shed some light on the release clause, if we offer 31m can sporting refuse it and demand more? Seems to be they way I'm interpreting that. If they refuse they owe Bruno 5m? Seems a bit of a strange one

Yea that seems to be it. They can reject an offer over that fee but must pay him compensation as a result.

I'd love to get this deal done, I think he could be a superstar

Probably all very valid, there could be a clause stating that in the event Sporting refuse to sell once his release clause is met, they must pay him £5m - so a work around for them. Of course it will be construed in accordance with Portuguese laws (and EU regulations).

Reportedly. If we really are interested, I suspect Woodward is doing the same thing he did with the AWB deal in trying to lower the fee.
Woody is terrible at negotiating and seems to operate at a snails pace. He really needs to get his finger out on this one

What if multiple clubs meet the release clause, every time that happens they are due 5 mil.?:smirk:

€35m is not his buy out clause, his buy out clause is apparently €100m
The confusion is that he does have a weird clause that if Sporting reject an offer of €35m, then Fernandes has to be compensated €5m

Sporting need to cash in on the player, and suitors feel that they can negotiate a deal way below his release clause, €50m has been touted.

You'd hope their lawyers were smarter than that.

Realistically this will be solved by them saying 'we'll sell you for the best fee we can get'. I can understand why we are offering the release clause only at this point.

He has been in the past, although given the price agreed for AWB and Palace's reported demands of £70m/£50m + removal of the Zaha sell on clause, we ended up getting a pretty decent deal. Let's hope the Bruno deal follows a similar pattern.

I am nervous with this. Wish he would just give them 50 so we can move on. Can't doubt Woody because he did well with Palace.

I remember reading a news story (unsure of the validity) that we had agreed terms with Fernandes.

Is it possible that we agreed to make a low offer so when rejected he would get the 5 million euros in exchange for agreeing a lower salary?

Maybe I'm being cynical here

Getting this guy in is probably a good move.
If Pogba decides to put in even less effort next year (on the back of not getting his wish to be sold) we need an alternative option -we didn't have one this season !
Not signing another option would be pretty stupid .... so expect us to sit on our hands..
Not even just that but also if pogba gets injured we severely lack creativity from the middle. I'm warming up more tot he idea of him but I'm yet to know if he runs a lot which is something we desperately need in this team.

No I think you may have something here. Could ya triggering his £5m clause grounds to pay him less per week when we sign him? It’s all a game I feel. Maybe Woodward is playing?

Am I the only one who feels this is Sneijder part 2? It seems to be dragging on and on with no reliable source saying the club are in for him. If he does come to the club then great, but it's starting to sound very unrealistic.

I imagine this clause will only kick in once the window shuts again.

No way would they pay him 5m euros then sell him a few weeks later.

I keep seeing posts saying he will be the midfielder we are expecting to replace Herrera . For the nth time, his ability as a CM is still unknown. He has been playing closer to goal than a midfield. He has not consistently played as a CM. If he is bought in as a midfield player, we are truly clueless. If he is replacing Lingard or Mata in a diamond, then things might be different.

He’d be played as an attacking midfielder, taking Herrera’s place in the midfield 3. Nothing wrong with saying that. Pogba will presumably be used slightly deeper, with a new defensive midfielder capable of moving faster than a stalagmite, sitting deepest

Now that the UK press are on it too, maybe there could indeed be something in this? Did the UK press ever got involved in the Gaitan rumours?

I don't think Pogs is disciplined for a deeper spot and his tendency to get caught with the ball, and then not bust a gut to get back is a worry.....

There's only one United!
I hope that we don't let this transfer slip from our hands.

It's fine because AWB is a lot more defensive than Young, so we can afford to play a more offensive player than Herrera in that spot.

We will have a defensive midfielder behind him, so he’ll be playing closer to the role of a traditional CM than one with anything more than standard defensive burden.

If we sign him, I'd imagine he would play alongside pogba and ahead of a midfield double pivot and provide much needed creativity from midfield.

You don't compromise your full back to accommodate an attacking player whose credentials as midfielder is still unknown. Be it Bruno or KDB, you still need your FB to be high up and offer an attacking threat. Doesn't matter if its young or AWB.

If he is near as technical, energetic and industrious as Bernardo Silva, i really think 50m euros is a fair price for him. Not saying he will be as good of course

This is my old post .
Just quoting the stats from portugese league to compare where he stand.

2018 - 2019

Goals:
Seferovic - 23
Bruno - 20
Rafa - 17

Assists:
Pizzi - 18
Grimaldo- 11
Bruno - 11

2017 - 2018

Goals:
Jonas - 34
Dost - 27
Marega - 22

Assists:
Telles 10
Esgiao 6

2016 - 2017

Goals:
Dost 34
Soares 19
Silva A 16

Assists:
Pizzi 8
Gelson Martins 8

Goals:
Jonas 32
Slimani 27
Mitrogolu 19

2014 - 2015

Jackson Martinez 21
Jonas 20
Lima 19

Some key indicators there. Players who has scored more than him and has played in other leagues -

forwards - Jackson Martinez, Slimani, Dost

Goals and assists are probably not the best way to judge him. He is not really tearing up Portugese league either.

I agree, but he does play deeper for France. I just feel he'd be caught out too many times with the pace and pressure in the PL.

Yeah I’d imagine if they reject a €35m offer, they have to pay Fernandes €5m - but I’d assume the €100m release clause would kick in thereafter. Otherwise it would make no sense from Sporting’s perspective to have that clause in place and the price simply reverts back to the €35m clause again after they’ve been penalized.

Part of me thinks (hopes) he might end up staying after all. Ndombele signed for Spurs and if they keep Erickson he won’t go there. If united keep Pogba Bruno won’t go there (I don’t think) City don’t need him and arsenal and Chelsea (lol) it won’t happen to them.

I might have just jinxed it but part of me really hopes he does not leave.

So he has a release clause, but if Sporting block the move, they have to pay him 5 million euros?
I don't understand the point of the 'clause'.
