I think a foreigner coming into a league in a totally different culture and being so loyal and having so much love for a club for so many years is just as admirable myself.
As much as I loved and respected Totti as a player, for me personally he wouldnt come into consideration as one of the best ever players in his position from my lifetime, Zanetti actually would, that was more the point I was trying to make in that he should be mentioned more as such a great player showing so much loyatly and love for a club as I think he is one of the very best right backs, much life Cafu was too...but he was only at Milan for a few years wasnt he
But that's the thing with football, it's subjective when it comes to rating players. For me Totti is one of the greatest players of his generation in AM and later false 9 position. He had numerous offers but rejected them all while keeping Roma on footballing map and sometimes winning matches on his own.

When it comes to Zanetti he really was brilliant player, I cannot remember single bad game from him, not from the ones I've watched. The thing is with Zanetti I also can't remember him ever being linked away from Inter, either there were no offers (which I doubt) or he simply made clear to the club he's there as long as they want him which is something you've pointed as his loyalty.

Cafu was great RB, for me best ever in that position, but as I've said it's subjective. Don't want to derail this thread anymore, but I can see your point now. It's really remarkable for foreign player(s) to come into new league and then stay in one club (or two) in the years to come.

Johan Cruijff. Started as a winger, then CF and then into midfield as a playmaker. George Best played on both wings for United and NI. It never bothered him. Cantona started as a winger too.

Gerrard - center mid, attacking mid, he had a great season on the right and ended up a deep lying playmaker

Maguire - he better be decent in more than one position, if they’re valuing him at 80-90m.

Bale was a failing full back, I don’t understand people mentioning wingers who can also play centrally, almost all of the wide players nowadays can also play centrally.
Ramsey was a sort of a number 8 and 10 hybrid for Arsenal right? That is also not something I find particularly special.
I remember he played wide a few times too, perhaps he played in defensive midfield a few times too? I didn’t watch Arsenal at all these last few years, they depress me for some reason.

Ze Roberto. Played as a winger throughout most of his career (before inverted wingers were a thing), then turned into a CDM and was awesome in that position,

Kevin-Prince Boateng, Moved from CDM to central striker. Probably one of those players you could put in literally any position on the field bar maybe left back.

Sergio Ramos. Was already one of the best RBs in the game when he switched to CB and became arguably the best of his generation in that position. Had decent games as a CM, too.

Bastian Schweinsteiger. Started his career as a winger, was decent there and played that position until he was 26 or 27. Then LVG turned him into a CM an he became world class.

Bale started his career as a left back and was decent enough to be linked with all the top clubs. The opinion back then was spurs did well to get him.

Ramsey played pretty much every position at Cardiff at a decent standard, and no one actually knew what his best position actually was.
