Calm the aggression down. It does you no favours.
Don't be sensitive. There was nothing aggressive in my response to you.
Racist language shouldn't be acceptable just because people take it "In jest", or because another group have historically had a much worse time.
You must have missed the first 5 words of my post.

Not a thing wrong with that. The Republican stance is a legitimate one to have?

Portrush where the Open is being played is in Northern Ireland, but he is referring to it as Irish soil.

I don’t have an issue with it at all, but many others will.
Ah right, kinda the complete opposite then I guess.

That's a very vanilla example of why he rubs people the wrong way. He could've easily tweeted, 'good luck Shane, would be nice to to see an Irishman win The Open', but naturally he had to add the 'on Irish soil' part.

You can condemn the abuse he gets and also legitimately look deeper into his character and the manner in which he conducts himself without being called a Loyalist bigot.

Shane is an irishman it's being played on irish soil and everyone I can see in Portrush is behind him and cheering him on .

Perhaps you should stop being so bitter and stop stalking McClean tweets looking for something to bitch about

The vast majority of people who get upset by McClean are loyalist bigots or racist, little Englanders or at best xenophobic poppy nazis.

You seem a fairly unpleasant individual.
Just my opinion like.

if you are triggered by this you need to grow up
Im hardly "triggered". Id like to lowry hold on to win it. Someone on my timeline retweeted it.

If you read the replies you can clearly see how its riled some. He had to know it would get that reaction when he tweeted it though.

I'd tend to agree with that poster . He's unpleasant how ? Because he pointed out that the vast majority of people who abuse McClean online are actually Loyalist or English/Scottish bigots ?

He is called a IRA lover by people because he won't wear a poppy he out his point across very well but still receives abuse while our very own Matic did exactly the same thing with zero abuse or fuss !

Why the difference? Because Matic isn't Irish so doesn't affect the mind set of Loyalist bigots ..

What's the point of adding @ to ShaneLowryGolf? I didn't know he was a caf member?

I hope you have a great season @greenwood and replace @Beanz.

Edit: Whoops! There really IS a beanz! Sorry @Beanz!
Thats direct from his twitter, copied and pasted. He tagged lowry in his tweet

Yeah nothing to do with the commentator referring to Lowry being British yesterday when he clearly isnt. You are just starting shit for the hell of it. Go away!
And that was also rightly criticised on social media as well, because he isnt british and probably wouldn't take to kindly to it.

Adding the "Irish soil" part to the tweet has brought on the mixed replied to it. He could have stopped short of there and no one would/could have had anything to criticise about it

I find McClean to be a bit thick. He doesn't want people to give him abuse, but he loads the bullets and passes everybody guns. Then whines about it afterwards. He's been courting his own downfall for years. Also, as an Irishman myself, I find it ridiculous that he hasn't researched the fact that thousands of young Irishmen fought in both wars. The poppy is a symbol of remembrance, not a symbol of the British state.

You clearly are not from Derry and haven't witnessed what the British army did so I find it ridiculous you think McClean or anyone here should feel any different to how we do

You seem like you have not the first clue about the issue, if that's your take on it. Just my opinion, like.

For what it's worth, I would say the exact same about a nationalist bigot, or any sort of bigot. It's the bigotry, I have a problem with, not people's nationality/national identity. :)

I liken it to brexit. Not all who voted for brexit, are racist but all racists voted for brexit.

Oh sweet Jesus. Is there nothing that doesn't offend some of you lot? Talk about innocent. An innocent, genuine and factually correct tweet.

And the people who do have a problem with it, are narrow minded bigots, who are against anyone in the north of Ireland, exorcising their legal right to chose their own nationality, or indeed have dual nationality.

Just like the bigots who got riled up on twitter at Gary Linaker, for calling McIlroy british.

Yeah mate i agree it is ridiculous when people make claims without doing any research beforehand.

I have complete respect for those who fought and died in both World Wars - many I know were Irish-born. I have been told that your own Grandfather Paddy Whelan, from Tipperary, was one of those.

I can actually understand why people got riled up at lineker calling McIlroy british, he identifies as Irish. So i can see their point of view, the same way i can see the point of view of people that are annoyed at it being called Irish soil.

My whole point i suppose was, did he actually need to go that step further and say irish soil?

In 3 weeks when he's back in England playing footy itl be remembered, people will abuse him, he'll complain and itl go all full circle.

All the Irish stuff aside, his comments about Sterling and his campaigning on racism in football come across terribly. He sounds like a typical ignorant white bloke saying black people are making a fuss over nothing.

“Look at the Sterling case. He’s been lauded as this kind of hero for speaking out — getting awards and this and that. What he got is nothing compared to what I’ve got for the past seven or eight years.”

What a bellend.

He's not wrong though is he?

It is soil in Northern Ireland and on the island of Ireland. You would need to be pretty bitter and insecure to get offended by a turn of phrase like that in my opinion. It seems to be more to do with people just wanting to get riled up because of who said it than the actual phrase itself.

Of course he didn’t, but it’s what he does. I don’t have much of a problem with it tbh, but saying he isn’t divisive is just stupid.

In this case the whole problem is with those getting annoyed.

Well if you don’t see what McLean is saying, given his history, it’s quite naive. No one is being insecure or offended.
