Actually, it mainly shows that the reports of a £40m transfer budget were a load of bollox.
The 40m figure sounds like bollocks to me. We're trying to be tight as usual, but putting the limited budget message out so that we don't get rinsed as normally happens. Letting everyone know you have 200m to spend isn't going to get you the best deals.

The feck are we signing that clown for?
Not a fan either but after being told to do one by Leipzig, 24h left and at 8 million, i'll take it...

Kicking lumps out of people beside them. Arsenal play three CBs regularly.
We won't be doing that again, IMO. Haven't seen it at any point this preseason and Emery has said he prefers four at the back.

Luiz is 32 and whilst better than Mustafi he's still a clown. He won't improve their defence much at all.

Otherwise though I reckon they've had a 7 or even 8/10 window. Pepe is an exciting marquee signing, Ceballos is good business on loan for a year to help them get back in the CL, don't know much about Tierney but only heard good things and it's not hard to be an upgrade on Kolasinac. And obviously secured Saliba for the future who is meant to be promising.

It's my fault for reading reddit but farq me we have some stupid fans.

We'd have been better off with Koscielny than signing Luiz. At the very best our CB situation is the same as last season IMO.

Hopefully Tierney goes through as reports are suggesting though. I'll be really happy about that one.

I’ll admit to being very annoyed if Arsenal sign Tierney.

And, even though I think Luiz is an accident waiting to happen, it pains me to see Arsenal coming out of this window looking like cunning wheeler dealers, while we are - yet again - a fecking laughing stock.

How much more evidence do the gobshites that run our club need to see that we need a DoF if we’ve any hope of competing at the top table again?

Probably got the hump after Lamps asked him to try and you know, defend. So he's thought, where can I go where defending is optional? Ah I know, Arsenal.

They've done alright considering the Koscielny situation came out of nowhere. If we can flog Mustafi then I'm ready to get excited. Why the feck won't West Ham buy him? They love our shite.

I think Luiz is a clown of a CB but the rest of their signings have been very good.

They’re favourites for 4th imo.

Tierney would be a massive signing. There aren't that many quality LB's around.

Tierney is a excellent signing.

He’s what people on here want to believe Luke Shaw is.

Luiz seems strange to me.

Especially at that price. I'm surprised other teams aren't in for him - Spurs in particular if they are letting Rose go.

United, City and Pool are all set there.

I think Luiz is just an experienced body to throw in the mix. He's underwhelming as hell, but we needed someone with Koscielny going home.

I like Tierney but I feel like many are overrating him a little. There's no guarantee that he will make the leap from the SPL to the PL, especially if his injury problems get in the way.

Funnily enough i think Liverpool would be the team that suits Luiz the most, he will have VVD and Robertson guiding him through the defensive phase and his range of passing to your front 3 would cause absolute havoc.

Hernia is no big deal. The potential OP could be worrisome unless managed properly.

Chelsea played with this clown last season (36 games) and had the best defense after City and Liverpool. So i'm fine with this clown.

Everywhere he was (Chelsea & PSG) he was a starter for them.

Chelsea are willing to sell Luiz, at a knock-down price, to an arch-rival and a fellow top 4 contender, and be happy to do it no less - this should tell you all you need to know about the transfer.

I hope you're right. But (even though it wasn't an option) I would have preferred to have kept Koscielny.

Yeah I would say he has become a better defender since he re-joined Chelsea.

If we can complete the Tierney and Luiz signings I'd be absolutely wrapped with the business we have done this window.

Our defense would still be suspect, but we have some players coming back as well (Holding, Bellerin).

Also a ball playing centre half like Luiz could make our transition from the backline quite tasty.

I dont get why Chelsea would sell him though? Surely this would leave them short of options at the back.. doesnt make sense.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s pretty good on the ball and he’s clearly a better option than playing Mustafi, but I’ve always found him suspect defensively.

You need a leader at the back and I don’t think that’s David Luiz, although having said i can’t think of many good options available at the moment.

Would you have been ok with swapping Koscielny for Luiz at the start of the window?

Kos > Luiz in my opinion.

Sokratis will be the leader at the back. He can do it.

If Luiz acts up we can get Kolasinac to deal with him.

Tierney and Pepe are undoubtedly excellent signings, Luiz is weird. But I think Tierney now will be a decently big upgrade to their defence, plus with Torreira and Guendouzi next to Ceballos in midfield (I'd assume), it's looking like a well balanced midfield. Might be a team that has some weaknesses physically and that could hurt them, but the front 3, a decently balanced midfield should improve them a decent amount overall. Their defence will still be a mess though I think, just a bit less with Tierney.

If Tierney is actually any good, why do Arsenal have a free run at him?...

I've been waiting since 2009 when I started supporting Arsenal to say we have had a good transfer window.

But to be honest, until any of them have actually kicked a ball it's all speculation.

FYI I've lurked here for years. Just haven't participated in discussion. I am excited about the coming season, hopefully we can get back into the top 4. Tough season ahead for many teams!

To be fair you could play with just Kolasinac in a back one and you’d be fine. Nobody is messing with him.

It’s not mentioned much, but Tierney is injured a lot. All different injuries too. He’s a good player, I like him; yet definitely not top class as far as I’ve seen. And he has Phil Jones syndrome.

Luiz is a fecking clown. Without his athleticism, which is fading, he’s going to be a major liability.

Ceballos isn’t a player that does much for me. He’s okay. Same with Torreira, plus he wanted to leave. I like Guendouzi, but he’s inconsistent from what I’ve seen. It’s not a midfield to make you tremble, but it could end up being functionally effective. That’ll be down to the coaching.

Laca, Auba and Pepe, is a good front three. They’ll score a lot of goals.

Luiz will be an OK signing for Arsenal. Last season, they wanted to play out from the back, and they could no longer do that after Holding was injured. Luiz will fit in well in this system. Still think they need another stopper, with Mustafi being a defensive liability

Tierney will be a good signing as well, if he can stay fit. Relatively cheap and young, with Monreal no longer in his prime and Kolasinac more well-suited as wingback

Which other top team needs a LB other than Spurs, who are after Sessegnon?

Napoli, who seem to try and mirror every move we make (or is it the other way around) were credited with an active interest. But it seems Tierney wanted the PL.

Injured a lot?

2015/16 - 33
2016/17 - 45
2017/18 - 50
2018/19 - 40

Those are the amount of games he's played each season over the last four seasons. He's been injured recently, yes, but to suggest he's always injured is quite obviously wrong.

Who wanted to leave? Torreira? Again, you're wrong. He categorically shot down those comments. And even if he did what does it matter? Pogba has wanted to bounce for two years now, but it didn't stop him having his best year at United.

Agree regarding Luiz though. The sadist in my wants to see Mustafi and Luiz together... Just one time at least.
