Just phoned the Adidas store and asked about tops being sold with Martial 11....the guy was fecking clueless.

I’ve got the receipt and everything else and we bought the new home top with Martial 11 on the 18th May so almost 3 months ago. We have the player name and number sheet too where they promote Martial has one of the top 5 most popular.

The guy literally turned around on the phone and said ‘but it’s not our problem, what if he changes his number again tomorrow’.....

I’m fuming to be honest, the top with Martial 11 on the back was £80, He’s changed number the day the season starts, there must be thousands with a messed up shirt.

Sorry to hear that. The store should have given you a warning that the present squad numbers could potentially be different by the time the season starts.

Personally I don’t buy the top with name and number on the back until the club officially release the squad numbers for each player. Just in case if the above scenario happens.

McT isn't DM. Ole said he is Box to box.
Depends what you expect from a DM. Keane was a "box to box" midfield player, but in the right set up that's absolutely fine to deploy as a DM.

I don't see the problem here. Buy at your own risk if you get a name and number on the back before the start of the season. It could be worse anyway, we could have sold him.

I would predict he and Rashford score 25/30 between them. This is not enough and we need others to step up to the plate.
We need 7/8 goals each from Pogba, Lingard, McTominay, Mata, James,.
Greenwood and Gomes will score a few if they get game time. I hope that others will get in on the act also. We certainly need them.

Utter shite but the best goal/assist ratio among our attackers.
Not really a high bar though was it last season?

I get that his style is laid back, and I don't mind it as much as some do, but there is no way he was putting it all in last season, and hasn't done for a quite a while, so I just want to see him give a bit more, if he does then he could be as good as we've had up front for quite a long time.

Kante is box to box as well

Liverpool only play with a DM when Fabinho is on the field.

1. Martial - 25
2. Rashford - 20
3. Pogba - 15
4. Jesse - 7
5. Alexis - 10
6. James - 5
7. Greenwood- 7
8. Maguire - 3
9. Mata - 5
10. Fred - 5
11. Mctominay - 5

If we need to close the gap with City or Liverpool, 100+ goals is a must. Oh boy the boys has some weight on their shoulders.

I feel a player should always try to reform to the best of their ability regardless of shirt number, but players can be very fickle.... so I do think giving Martial back this number is a good move by Ole, hopefully, Martial repays the faith that's been put in him.

In the process they should have given the #11 to Mason or at least the #19.

Absolutely mental thing to actually complain about, you've purchased a top with a player name and number before a transfer window  Almost 3 months later you call to complain about his numbers being changed

I will eat my hat if Martial scores more then 20 this season. Same goes for Rashy. However having an interchangeable front 3 should do some damage. Wishing them good luck today. Chelsea are very beatable.

Well first time I’ve ever seen a player change his number the day the season starts. First time it’s ever happened actually. They’ve been selling Martial 11 shirts all summer so yeah it’s a bit annoying.

I know there’s a certain risk especially with players getting sold you can never been 100% but to change the number so late is unheard off.

Martial is the best finisher in the PL. He's too good not to shine over a 38 match period in his favorite position. I don't have any worries about him.

taking the number away from him was such an unnecessary and childish thing. Glad he got it back and hopefully he'll crush it this season.
Nothing wrong with taking his number but he found out about it through the media while on holidays after finishing the season as the highest goal scorer. Mr Special one didn’t bother to give him a call.

This will be his last chance to prove what he is to be fair. He's wasted chances and moaned about everything since being stripped of the number 9 and playing CF so he really has to make the most of this.

Got a good laugh out of these lads, cheers

I'd be lying if I said I have much faith in Tony, been a right stroppy, hot and cold bastard for too long now to trust him 100%. Hopefully this season he turns it around. I expect Rashford to outscore him though.

Definitely not, when everything is going for him he knows how to place it but he's not better than Salah, Kane, Aguero and many others. Almost feels embarrassing to talk about.

Agreed. Seems a slightly strange comment but he could have possibly meant the best striker in the club rather than PL.

He's got a great conversion rate but that's because he basically only has a pop when he's basically guaranteed to score.

I think Martial is much better playing from the left, but I don't have a problem with giving him a season as our no.9 to see whether he can deliver or not. He's 24 in December. We can't keep talking about his "potential".

2015/2016 season
Left: 25 games, 19 goals+assists = 1.32 games per goal/assist
Right: 4 games, 2 goals+assists = 2.00 games per goal/assist
Central: 27 games, 9 goals+assists = 3.00 games per goal/assist

2016/2017 season
Left: 31 games, 15 goals+assists = 2.07 games per goal/assist
Right: 2 games, 0 goals+assists = N/a games per goal/assist
Central: 7 games, 2 goals+assists = 3.50 games per goal/assist

2017/2018 season
Left: 28 games, 12 goals+assists = 2.33 games per goal/assist
Right: 3 games, 0 goals+assists = N/a games per goal/assist
Central: 10 games, 8 goals+assists = 1.25 games per goal/assist

2018/2019 season
Left: 25 games, 12 goals+assists = 2.08 games per goal/assist
Right: 1 games, 0 goals+assists = N/a games per goal/assist
Central: 11 games, 3 goals+assists = 3.67 games per goal/assist

Why did he go backwards after his excellent debut season, playing on the left.
What if we've already seen the best of Martial and he isn't going to improve?
Martial is garbage playing on the right, so is Rashford, so what kind of performances do you expect from them if we play either on the right?

Martial has never been given a proper run at number 9, so let’s see what he can truly do now. Mourinho continued to play Lukaku when he was a fat mess, lumbering about the pitch offering nothing. Martial deserves this shot.

If he made 38 starts as no.9 what would expect him to deliver in terms of end product?
For the past 4 seasons, he's played 55 games centrally, scored 22 goals+assists. That's 2.5 games per goal+assist playing centrally.
That is equivalent to 38 games, 15 goals+assists. Do you think that is good enough? Would you be happy with that?

He has a great conversion rate because he has a very good finishing and decision making. A player is never guaranteed to score.

I didn't say he's a better player than them , I only spoke about the finishing aspect. Martial averages one goal from every 4 shots.. He scored 11 goals from 39 shots last season. The likes of Kane and Aguero have a very higher volume of shots but sticking only to finishing nobody matches up to Martials accuracy. He also doesn't take penalties unlike nearly all the other strikers.
Martial averages a goal from every 4 shots. Nobody matches that level of efficiency and chance conversion in the PL.

He never played at no9 consistently. 55 games over 4 years is average 13 matches per season if that is right. And I don't even think he played 55 games at no9. Apart from first 5 matches when was the other time he played there? LVG gave him license to attack the box in the beginning and then he operated as a traditional winger for Ibra and Lukaku in the Mourinho reign.

Here is a reason to be optimistic with us having Martial as no.9 THIS season

Entire career so far, shot accuracy = 58.4%
Last season, shot accuracy = 71.4%

60% is the benchmark, 70%+ is EXCELLENT

Also, Martial is actually very average at dribbling. He's not improved this area of his game whatsoever. Gone backwards if anything.
His shooting has improved though, so it does make sense to try him as striker. A finisher. :)

It's a number. If it makes any difference it's fecking worrying.
Him getting it back shouldn’t make a difference but taking a number off a player to give to a ‘bigger’ player would be extremely demoralising, especially in the public eye.

We're hoping the magical power of number 9 somehow transforms Martial into an effective player?

Christ, this is sad desperation on a new level.

No excuses for him anymore. This should be his season and I fecking hope he takes it by storm.
I can't see him being consistent enough through the whole season. When he delivers he's great but too often he disappears.
