Also is there any doubt about the level Sterling is at right now? Confidence personified, lovely to watch.

Also really like that City kit.
He's a top quality player but the team makes him better. he wouldn't look as good playing for a Leicester or Watford as he does playing for City.

Decent team Villa have there. Not quite the quality to do a Wolves but can see them finishing around 10th.

No I agree he isn’t a player to control and needs more creative players to put him into those positions. Having said that when he gets in those positions now you expect him to score, the 3rd finish (I think) when he goes near post on the keeper shows his composure and finishing has really improved.

Totally agree. He's the perfect player for a team like City now. His anticipation and the quality of his finishing is excellent.

Nah, I think he will be world class whichever team he is playing for. It's just a shame he played for the dippers and plays for the blue cnuts. It's the same with Pogba. He looks like the world's best midfielder when playing for France because he plays with teammates of similar talent. At Man Utd, the only other world class player is De Gea. Every other player is a tier or two below these two, so his form is often inconsistent and he often cuts a frustrating figure.

On the other hand, I hope Rashford becomes at least 50-60% of the player Sterling is. If he doesn't kick on this season, when we need him the most, we should surely bin him and look for other options. Those 10 or 11 goals in the PL would lead us nowhere this season. He has to score 20+. Same for Martial as well. Our season depends on them two and Pogba's form.

The doubt will always be England.

We get his Ali Dia cousin whilst City get Sterling on steroids.

Henderson pulled off a cracking save today, and another good save just before conceding the rebound.

Based on his attitude and his quality I have such a strong feeling that he will make it at United. It feels like match. But then obviously we dont want to lose DDG. Kind of conflicting.

Early days obviously, but i was expecting good things from Southampton this season, as i think they have a really good manager on their hands. Getting pummelled by Burnley isn't a great start to say the least.

No idea how we are going to match up with Chelsea, you have to consider that if we lose much of the problems last season will come around and it's that Ole is unable to turn this team around if results are bad due to the weak mentality.

I look forward to seeing how Arsenal line up, their defence is still questionable but Pepe is a quality signing. His movement and flair suits this league perfectly, I reckon he'll come across like a younger Zaha but not as aggressive. When you consider how light weight our attacking options are in not sure why Ole didn't look at Wilfred. Him or Jota would be useful in January if the team isn't firing.

Chelsea are shite. Unfortunately so are we. It’ll be a battle of who’s the least awful
We haven't kicked a ball in the league yet and we're shite?

We were pretty decent in pre season, played some nice football and now have a new top quality CB to come into the team. Maybe give the lads a chance before writing the season off eh?

We were a long way behind the top 3 last season and they have all come flying out of the blocks (Spurs stumbling out tbf). I would love it if we came good but I feel the quality gap that existed last season just hasn’t been narrowed enough. I’ll admit it was a bit negative though

I disagree. I’m not writing them off. Bournemouth conceded 70 last season but weren’t threatened with relegation. It’s about winning games and I think Norwich will beat a lot of the lesser lights.

Their defence is really young 19, 21, 27, 21 and this was a baptism of fire for them against a world class side with exceptional high pressing. It's probably their hardest game of the season and their first at this level so they can be forgiven for being like a deer in the headlights.

Fulham played good football in The Championship but didn't in the PL, they created very little, unlike Norwich yesterday.
Bournemouth are a better team than Norwich and even so would be very concerned with conceding that many goals. It's hard to win games if you're conceding goals every five minutes.

THeir defence being very young is a big part of the problem. The whole season is going to be a baptism of fire. You don't suddenly learn how to defend by playing at Anfield once. When you look at the goals and chances they were conceding, these aren't the kind of chances that only the likes of Liverpool will be creating against them. Any team in the league will have their centreback just head the ball into your gooal unchallenged if you let them.

Fulham were playing good football at the start of last season, and people were saying the same things about them as you are about Norwixh. The problem is that playing good football doesn't stop you conceding soft goals. The good football also doesn't last when you get spanked every week.

It’s not just you mate. So many of our fans are so quick to write us off before they’ve given us a chance. It used to happen under Ferguson too. I remember a few times we had a poor start to the season and went on to win the league. We had people on here saying Ferguson’s time might be up after 4 games of the season.

Given how far we have fallen the need for patience has never been greater

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
Not at all confident today if Kante is out. The other injuries are annoying (Willian, RLC and CHO) but N'Golo is the real game changer.

I'd bite your hand off now for a draw.

He always seems to be rumoured to be out against us but sure enough, when the lineups are announced, he's there - playing a blinder against us.

Glad that Leicester and Wolves are playing each other today and one or both will drop points. We haven't won a game on the opening day of the league for a while now so in hindsight the result yesterday wasn't terrible considering we lost Gomes to injury before half-time and Schneiderlin was sent off.

That's more annoying than dropping points though. Delph/Gomes injured and Schneiderlin out of the next game leaves us super light in the middle which is just crappy luck.

People like Richarlison/Gbamin/Kean are going to need a bit of time to get up to speed too due to not having a big pre-season. Not worried yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it took us 3-5 games to start doing well.

Leicester vs Wolves should be a brilliant game and Arsenal should smash Newcastle.

I’d watched pool on Friday night, then Spurs Villa yesterday, then MOTD where I’d caught the City highlights. Pool and City picked up where they’d left off, just dismissing teams ruthlessly. Spurs fought to 3-1 against a villa side that were actually very good.
It’s just easy to be negative after this window, when we’ve had the opportunity to add, sigh, a RW, CM, CF.....but we haven’t......and you can just see another season of not being on the same planet as the other big teams.

Anyway, I’ll get off the soapbox

Edit, sod it, we’ll feck them up, 3-0 by half time

Leciester vs Wolves is a great game, 2-2 I reckon.

Villa were actually unlucky last night. Kane is a different class though, having a true 20-30 goal a season striker is such a difference maker.

I think in a way you are agreeing with what I was saying. The bold part it what I believe would happen to Sterling in a team with lesser players.

He seems to be play exactly how Pedro played for Barca under Guardiola. You also saw Pedro scoring big goals and yet his individual quality was somewhat lacking at times. Just shows you how Guardiola uses the resources at his disposal.

Today is the real start of the PL season, for me.

Friday and Saturday were a bunch of mostly uninteresting games. All 3 matches today look competetive and with decent quality on both sides.

For what it's worth, I also consider it to be the end of the Summer. From this point on, we're in Autumn.

Would happily take a point today, worried about fatigue after playing Thursday and then a long flight. We'll either be knackered or super fit having started a couple of weeks before Leicester. Two evenly matched teams though so should be a good game.

Just watched Spurs v Villa back and was impressed with both sides. Villa started really well but Spurs did really well to dig out a difficult win. Ndombele looks absolutely mint. Not ruling out Spurs as dark horses for the title, they have a deeper squad than they've had since Poch took over.

I think your flying start to the Europa will give you confidence today. It will be later in the season when match fatigue kicks in. Thursday Sunday is extremely attritional. Champions League you change between Tuesday and Wednesday so is no where near as bad as the Europa.

I'd take a 1-0 scrappy win. We're going to have to put out a very weak like up today I reckon, too many injuries and players not match fit due to internationals in the summer.
