Pogba needs to being a diva in midfield and play things simple, midfield has lacked control and been far too open as a result

It was a poor half, but focusing on the positives we're a goal in front, AWB has been great and Maguire's been good too. Also we were better towards the end of the half (not easy to get worse to be fair!) and there's a kernel of hope in the way we won the ball and attacked their box for the penalty. Do that more often in the second half, with Pogba keeping it quick and simple instead of the shit flicks and tricks and we could be onto something. Off the ball we still look dodgy, but hopefully our luck holds.

It'll take time for Martial to remember how to play centre forward, frankly. I didn't think changing the front three's positions in a seemingly preplanned switch was a good move, not much was created when that happened, and I don't trust their maturity in terms of what is best for the team rather than who wants to play where.

    Number of Touches 1st Half:
    43 - Pogba
    42 - Maguire
    39 - Wan-Bissaka
    37 - Shaw
    32 - Lindelöf
    31 - McTominay
    26 - Martial
    24 - Rashford
    22 - Gea
    19 - Lingard
    13 - Pereira

Lingard and Pereira need to get far more involved. Pereira with the lowest on the pitch.
Unsurprised to see that stat, it's been really noticeable how anonymous they've been. James to come on in the second half could be potentially devastating for us on the counter.

We need to transition Gomes into the midfield. It badly needs technical brilliance to allow the side as a whole control the game. The midfield should be the entire side's best passing option and that's not the case.

Taylor doesn't seem to want to give anything for Pogba, got fouled couple of times but chelsea got a free kick for similar.

Should keep possession much better. Chelsea's style is more recognisable if we go by that first half. They have been the better team. Zouma is very poor though.

If I read this thread instead of watching the game it feels like a completely different game

Can we finally abandon this myth of Martial being rapid? He's not fast, he's a good technical dribbler, but he's no speedier than Lingard. Rashford is rapid, James is rapid, Martial isn't even fast, he's got ok pace, nothing more. Pogba is faster than him.
Think he still has the 3rd fastest speed recorded in the premship but yeah he’s not like explosive fast.

We’re watching our team go in 1-0 at half time, and other than a crap first 15 and some individual mistakes, we’ve looked good.
This place is wierd. You'd think we're getting battered by chelsea. This place just love that moan

    Defence looks fine.

But we are still poor in midfield and attack. We should have reinforce during transfer window.

Disjointed forward play but at least the intensity is better. Chelsea have played very well. You can see how well they have been coached.

I like you ivaldo, but why do you always have to oretend that everything is great? Chelsea hit the woodwork twice, pogba had one or two very good saves, and we never looked in full control. And we play at home. But apparently we are looking decent.
Because being a miserable football fan is utterly pointless. It defeats the entire reason of being a supporter...

There's a reason the match going fans think our internet fanbase are bellends. Massive bellends.

That was quite a nervy first half performance. They look like they have difficulty dealing with Chelsea's high pressing game. Wan Bissaka has been very solid and Maguire doesn't look like he's having any problems adjusting. The passing at times has been frustrating too as well.

On the upside though, we are still looking dangerous on the counter especially against a fragile back line and the effort being put in to win the ball back when not in possession is very commendable. Hopefully Chelsea's high energy game tires them out in the closing half hour and we might be a little more comfortable on the ball.

I don't know what people see in Pereira - he's always looked a level below.

Pogba needs to stop trying to roulette out of trouble and focus on using his body and then passing on and moving.

He looks so much better than he passes and moves

Would like to see James' pace in the second half of this game. Lingard and Pereira have done next to nothing. Take them off

We need to get Pereira and Lingard more involved and we are still crying out for a proper midfield playmaker.
They shouldnt be involved in a match at all and instead of them being involved we should have bought that proper midfield playmaker to be involved in this match.

Lingard and Periera are bang average. Playing in the most advanced area of the pitch with the least touches how?

Just think it’s convenient rhetoric cause we were never going to spend the £.

We’re looking for midfielders that’ll make this team better, we’re not looking to add a Messi.

I’m no scout but from watching the Premier League this weekend I can see midfielders that would improve us, let alone in other leagues around europe.

We were never spending the money this summer & saying we would have for ‘the right guy’ is insulting.
Only midfielders outside of the top 5 which will not want to come to us (Eriksen is a debate for another day), who else is there? Sure we could try and raid Wolves, but we'd probably be fleeced like with Maguire. So yeah, as you say...not willing to spend the moola.

You cannot say it here, Ole is a God. No criticism allowed.
I know. I was quiet all summer, gave him a chance and now i see this. Is there sny fecking difference between this and end of season? Any difference in our game style, gameplan, in anything...?

Chelsea looking a lot stronger than I thought they would.

Our strengths are obvious (pressing, energy. AWB) and so are our weaknesses (zero control in midfield, strikers can only play one way)

Happy with the 1-0 though. Would take that right now.
Definitely a sense United are chancing it right now. Completely agree with your analysis. We're lucky they are still a collection of parts, think they'll improve as the season goes on, Jorginho and Kovacic is a really good 2.

Amazingly, our expensive new signings look great, and the players who looked shit at the back end of last season still look shit. Funny that.

Love how Pogba gets all the blame yet has been involved the most in the game whilst Perriera and McT escape criticism. So many agendas.
