O'Connor is only 19 as are Ercolani & Kovar. Everyone else who played against WBA were 18When Reading played Newcastle it was with quite an experienced side:
Jokull Andreasson 18 - talented icelandic goalkeeper
Chris Gunter - 30 - about 400 League matches and 95 matches for Wales
Jordan Obita - 25 - regular for 4 years, been about with knee-injuries for 2 years. Played his first 45 minutes against Newcastle.
Akinwalo Odimayo - 19 - tall central defender. Regular at the U18 for several seasons
Andre Burley - 19 - talented defender, yet to make a debut for the first readin
Ryan East 21 - midfielder. Just played once for Readings first team - but was in the squad that played United in the FA Cup in january
Jordan Holsgrove 19 - Scottish U21 international. 30 matches for the U23
Tyler Frost 20 - captain and a goalscoring midfielder.
Garath McCleary - 32 - Jamaican international with 200 + matches for Reading since joining the club from Forest in 2012
Thierry Nevers - 19 - maybe the most talented player at the club. Quick and skilled winger.
Andrija Novakovich - 22 - tall, American international. 9 goals in 27 on loan to Dutch club Fortuna Sittard last year. Scored 3 against Toons.
So the club had 3 players above 25 and 3 more in their 20s.
When we beat WBA 5-0, our oldest player on the pitch was Lee O'Connor who turned 20 just a week or so Before the game. So while Reading had an average of 22, Uniteds average age was about 19.
My mistake - you are correct. Average age would be 18.5O'Connor is only 19 as are Ercolani & Kovar. Everyone else who played against WBA were 18
Any team lineups?

That's the part we need to wait and see, play time in Europa and league cup. But yeah sounds good to me if that is indeed the plan.Gomes, Greenwood and Chong not in this squad either. Looks like they are in the first team full time now. I was 100% sure on Greenwood tbf, but Gomes and Chong were the question marks.
Think it seems apparent that the plan is for them to stay and train with the first team, get minutes off the bench, start/play significant minutes in the Europa and then drop down to the EFL Trophy games.
Good to see that their development is being handled well.
If he can carry on with performances like last week then it's only a matter of time. Hopefully he can get minutes in the Europa League as well, although likely not as many as the other 3.Good to see the trio staying with senior squad. They have proved before that they are better than U23s level. The experience with seniors and training with them should definitely help them, as will play time in cup games and few minutes here and there in league. Hopefully Garner will join them soon.
they can train with the first team and play for U23....hopefully we dont waste a whole year for them like we did with Fosu Mensah. They need playing time, if they are not on the bench for the first team they should play here. They can bring one for match going experience but other 2 should play and you rotate them.Good to see the trio staying with senior squad. They have proved before that they are better than U23s level. Need to see how we look in easier games than Chelsea first I'd say.they can train with the first team and play for U23....hopefully we dont waste a whole year for them like we did with Fosu Mensah. Yup. Although given his position is one we feel we need strengthening, an opportunity and impressive display will make him more likely to get minutes after that.If he can carry on with performances like last week then it's only a matter of time. Hopefully he can get minutes in the Europa League as well, although likely not as many as the other 3.
At this stage it looks like they will be getting play time on regular basis. From September onwards schedule will be packed and they will get opportunities. I don't see Ole just keeping them around throughout the season without giving play time in first team and at same time not playing them in U23s as well. If say Chong is not getting on bench as well regularly then yeah, better to play u23s till then.they can train with the first team and play for U23....hopefully we dont waste a whole year for them like we did with Fosu Mensah. Laurie Whitwell who covers United's U23's and United in general at the Athletic said that Brandon Williams is viewed as back up for Shaw this season. Solskjaer has already said as much.Williams should be getting watched closely by Solskjaer and co.
I think Shaw is the weak link in our back 4 and easily replaced. Heard very good things about Williams
Mellor been the best imo - extremely hard-working and he got the goal. O'Connor had a good game as well. Wouldn't agree with you on Laird, he has been quite good.Laird and Levitt haven't had good performances. Garner is probably the best of the bunch.
And now Laird is injured.
yes looked like an ankle problem, had to be helped from the pitch but not on a stretcherDid Laird go off injured? Was watching till he got the injury and lost connection.
What are the conditions like? It has been awful where I live all day.ugly game thus far
.yes looked like an ankle problem
Yeah Laird was good, some good attacking, almost threaded Mellor through, worked hard to get back, was a real threat.Mellor been the best imo - extremely hard-working and he got the goal. O'Connor had a good game as well. Wouldn't agree with you on Laird, he has been quite good.
