Wasn't fit to lace Robsons boots? Get feckin serious will ye. If Roy Keane was English England would have won a major tournament. They won feck all with Robbo.
Not if it was overseas tournament we wouldn't, he'd have been sent home in disgrace for complaining about the texture of the bed sheets, or pillow cases, a proper mans man

I jest, I was 100% in agreement with him with his spat with that other lovable Irishman Mick O'Carthy.

Just because it’s natural. I mean we all have family tragedies. Im firmly with Keane on this. Listen, I don’t even know what happen to Jon Walters but I can tell you right now that I’ve close friends who have suffered greatly and yet they rise above it and they carry on. I think Keane lacks tact but calling him a prick when you don’t really even know him also being a bit of a prick, no?
People deal with loss and grief in different ways and to use it as a stick to beat him with is classless and insensitive. Maybe it does make me a prick, but it was a shitty thing to say.

No, England would have won a major tournament with Roy Keane in their midfield, even though every English midfielder ever is better than Keane... Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, Robson, Dyer...

I might have meant Scholes, I might not, who knows, in the grand scheme of things who friggin cares, my reply was to some comedian who posted:

Best was a decent enough winger when he turned up I guess.
Which was a satirical reply to some joker claiming Keane was decent on his day and limited.

Bryan Robson, if he was missing we collapsed, with Roy he was replaceable.
I'm not just talking about being missing from the line-up. If you're looking at it from that point of view then there's a list of players you can name. Apart from Robson, peak Rooney comes to mind. I'm talking about the overall influence of a player being at the club. On the training ground and in the dressing room. Ibrahimovic has the same quality wherever he goes however his influence isn't always positive in my view.

Yeah agree, Roy was in a League of his own putting the fear of God into everybody at the club, the poor tea lady is still on medication.

Sorry, but are you trying to make a point?
Yes. England didn't win a major tournament with Robson, but would have if Keane would have been English. I think the only reason you don't rate Keane is because he isn't English.

I'm half Irish, so you can knock that nonsense on the head for starters. It's just an opinion. If you don't agree, fine, move on.
Think you need to move on. Your overly emotional posts are hilarious. I can feel the keyboard smashing rage. You’ve mate a fool of yourself in here.

I’m embarrassed for myself that you’re “half Irish”.

I can't believe that some twit in this thread claimed that Roy could beat Mike Tyson up.
We're approaching Chuck Norris territory here...

Catch yourself on, i've been calmness personified.

I'd have thought you being the Son of a Leprechaun was embarrassing enough for you, so i'm sorry to add to it.

I think Robson was the better player and he led by example. Keane was different. You could never see Robbo picking up a fight with Viera in the tunnel because he tried to bully a team mate. But Keane did and they each led in their own styles. I think Keane had a higher standard because he won more and the winning culture was in him from the start or else he would not have been the player he was.
I think England would have won something if Roy Keane was English and if he was the Captain. He would scare the daylights out of someone like Sven. And Beckham, Gerrard and Lampard and even Scholes are not better players in a team than Roy Keane. They may have been more talented but in picking up a team Roy Keane would the first name on the sheet at his peak.

Roy Keane is a sad, petty, malicious little man who used to be a great footballer, and that's about it.

The rage started because of the way Quiroz started treating him and ultimately Fergie humiliated him in front of the other players. I do not think Fergie forgave him for telling him to back off in the case of the Rock which is the ultimate reason why The Glazers are the owners of Manchester United.

Firstly i'd like to say that its such a shame that Roy Keane is not involved with the club or held in the same regards as as Scholes, Giggs and Cantona etc.The legacy of Roy Keane will always be a touchy subject for some especially here in Ireland where Roy divides opinion to this day for his previous controversies. Unfortunately I don't think he will ever get the recognition he deserves for what he's achieved on and off the pitch and be remembered as. In my opinion he was the greatest captain and leader to play in the modern era, who drove this club to new heights in winning trophy after trophy every season, showing passion and pride every minute he was on the field.

He set the standard of which he made sure his teammates matched and if they didn't he was sure to let them know. It was this standard that continued to be expected even after he'd departed. All this aside he was an underrated footballer in his own right. Good tackler, read the game well and was a top class passer. However its was that drive, passion and strive for perfection that would also lead to problems, confrontations and more.

Roy Keane off the pitch is not dissimilar to the Roy on the field. Straight talking and sharp with a serious tone that can border aggressive at times you can see that passion still burns strong in the man. He can easily come across as arrogant or ignorant to some but to me he just tells it how it is. His fallout at United was something that was the collision of two men who are so alike that there was no chance of either backing down or apologizing. Roy Keane was the embodiment of Sir Alex Ferguson on the field of play. The two most influential people involved in the greatest period in our clubs history, manager and captain, winners. It was never going to last forever but to end how it did is a shame.

Roy Keane finally signed his first semi-pro contract at the age of 18 for Irish club Cobh Ramblers. He had been rejected from almost every club in Ireland and England since he was 14 with the reason being he was too small. 4 years later he signed for Man United from Nottingham Forest. 4 years after that he was made captain of the club and as they say the rest is history. Roy Keane may not be everyone's favorite person to say the least but for me he an inspiration, a legend and i think everyone can agree that the sheer passion that likes of Roy Keane, Viera and Gerrard had for their clubs and the game is truly missed.

"It was the most emphatic display of selflessness I have seen on a football field. Pounding over every blade of grass, competing as if he would rather die of exhaustion than lose, he inspired all around him. I felt it was an honor to be associated with such a player."
Sir Alex Ferguson on Roy Keane against Juventus in the champion League Semi-Final in 1999.
Just a post I have on another thread which gives my opinion on Keane. Keane will never change and will always speak his mind without hesitation. Like him or otherwise the player he was and what he did for this club should never be forgotten. Keane the pundit is making sure he isn't forgotten

I actually think he's trying to stop himself from saying he did want to talk to him, but he's not willing to admit that. I think the fact that he keeps harping on about it all these years tells me he cares quite a bit, not just about the club, but about the man and what they achieved together. The ridiculous thing is, if he reached out and said, "lets talk about it", he'd probably get his apology.

What Roy can't understand is that the club moved on. Fergie did what he always did and did what was best for the club and his team. That saying that no player is bigger than the club is exactly the authority Fergie exercised here.

This is what I thought and hope. Ferguson and United meant so much to Keane and he never would have imagined in a million years he would have been done with United like that. For a footballer whose life revolves around the game to have it end like that must have been heart breaking. It’s the ultimate knife in the back and it seems that maybe United used the interview as an excuse to finally drop him.

I find him boring. He obviously is difficult to work with and holds onto grudges to the point that it's difficult to take what he says seriously because he's so clearly bitter. Because these grudges (i.e. Fergie, Delaney, McCarthy) started over a decade ago and he keeps going on about them it's become boring.

Ultimately he only has himself to blame. He should have been more self aware and understood that his career as the main force was over and that his role was to be a mentor. A good mentor doesn't carry on the way Keane did. He's not the manager. Instead he should have pulled those players out individually and discussed issues with them privately on where he felt they could improve.

He seems to have this chip on his shoulder that the club wanted him out, but I do not think that for a second. I think Fergie wanted him on his staff but if Roy couldn't adapt as a player to a more mentor based role at that point of his career, he was never going to.

It's a tough one but the situation which was the breaking point in relations between Keane and the club which was the MUTV interview in which he slated some players and made comments which for a live broadcast interview were out of place.

Keane strove for perfection and he set the standard at the club that took the team to a new level and imbued a never say die attitude with a winning mentality that would never let up. What followed was an unprecedented era of success for the club. However it eventually led to the fall out ended in a way that remains a shame and regretful. Keane was the greatest captain in our history, greatest captain in Premier league history and without his influence the club wouldn't have had anywhere near as much success as they did. However his demanding behavior had reached a point where is was impossible for some players especially the young players coming through, to sustain. No player is bigger than the club even Roy Keane.

Six months after leaving United for Celtic he retired on medical advice, yet the way some are defending him in here against SAF you'd have thought SAF forced him out in his pomp.
I think its more reminding people of how much Keane did for the club. For his time at the club to end the way it did was unfortunate and is punctuated by the continued back and forth between two people who shared that same indomitable will to win and absolute love of the game with a stubbornness, never give up attitude.
Neither Keane or Ferguson were going to back down and Keane had to go. Both of them did everything they did in the best interests of the club but there could only be one manager and Keane overstepped his mark in that regard and Ferguson had to intervene.

He gave his all for the club as player and captain and was told to feck off like he was nothing. You can argue about who was right and wrong but of course anyone is going to be bitter about being dumped like that.

Both Ferguson and Keane at the time handled certain situations poorly and Keane made sure Ferguson knew he was wrong with the the public row over ownership of a horse and Ferguson didn't like that one bit.

Keane was right to say it but at the same time the manager is the manager and Keane was starting to overstep his role at the club. Its similar situations that followed that culminated in the MUTV interview that Ferguson decided it had to stop. Keane was wrong to publicly slate a number of his teammates issues like that should be handles privately. Keane always demanded your best and nothing less and sure its good to et players know a few home truths but that interview was unnecessary and if he had stayed things would have escalated.

Ferguson and Keane both made mistakes but at the end of the day Keane pretty much made it impossible for him to stay on. Keane is a player i will always admire and respect but what made him such a great leader and captain pushing everyone to be better and demanding perfection it also led to his eventual fall out with the club.

Pretty much this. Possibly the best midfielder of his type I’ve ever seen, his will to win set him apart. We could do with his captaincy now. But as a person he’s a prick

Agree on how good of a player and captain Keane was but as a person he wasn't always as bad as he is now. I remember meeting him back in 2004 after a champions league group game against Lyon.
As a young lad seeing his heroes up close was incredible. As the players went around signing autographs before departing my dad had somehow ended up chatting away with Roy Keane I think Cork were playing us in hurling that weekend. Roy turns around to me pulls me over the security gate. I got to meet a few more of the players. After all that I turned back to Keane but I noticed something was off about him as he glared at me with utter hatred and said 'I'd waited long enough. I f------ hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that you c---," as he tackled my right knee studs first. As I lay on the ground shouting in pain Keane stood over me and shouted
"And don't ever stand over me sneering about fake injuries. Even in the dressing room afterwards, I had no remorse. My attitude was, f--- him.
"What goes around, comes around. You got your just rewards. You f----- me over and my attitude is an eye for an eye."

Oh wait sorry I'm after mixing up my story with the Alf Inge Haaland incident. Ah well can happen.

"Is Roy Keane dead to you?"

No, as a rational adult people can say things that I may not agree with without them "dying" to me.

Keane is the most important player of the most successful era in our history in my opinion. I also agree with a lot of what he says, whilst disagreeing with some things.

The hysteria of this thread title, in my opinion is pathetic, but an apt portrayal of the modern day supporter.
Pretty much this. Love Keano.

This is a massive point.

He played a tiny handful of games post United, and then that was it.

I didn't quite get Keane saying Robson and Bruce were treated badly near the end. He of all people should know there's no sentiment at a top achieving team - you don't just play someone in a cup final because they've been a top player.

Robson as Fergie has explained was unlucky to miss out on being one of the two outfield subs, as someone was nursing an injury, so McClair got the nod if I remember correctly?

Just heard the Matty Taylor story, hilarious
In fairness to Taylor, could you imagine telling Roy Keane no in the flesh!

The better story not in the interview was when he was maybe going to sign Robbie Savage.
But was apparently put off by him leaving a wassssuppp voicemail on his phone!

People are saying that he was limited player? He would walk in any top team of today or yesterday.
