I’d have planned better in April, May, June for a better transfer window. Selling Lukaku was excellent business, but it was also incredibly naive to not replace him. Lukaku scores in a game like today, he used to get 1-2 goals for fun against mid table teams.

it’s all good and well blaming injuries, but everyone gets injuries, it’s how you cope with injuries, and sadly we don’t cope with injuries well because we didn’t strengthen enough in the summer. That lies with the manager I’m afraid. If you have no confidence in bringing in a striker, you don’t sell your striker.
Does it though?

We've scored 16 goals in the last 17 games under Ole. That speaks volumes. Unfortunately, Ole has no idea what he's doing.
I dont really think anyone could get our team to look creative without martial and Pogba with the players we have though. Like I'm not saying Ole is great, more that regardless of who the manager is, we need midfield and attacking reinforcements. Even if we want to give Martial and Rashford the chance as key players (fine with me), still need a right winger, more creativity and solidity in midfield and more depth. No matter who the manager is, we need these things. So I'm not going to sit here and shit on Ole today when Klopp or Pep wouldn't have mata/pereira/matic/mctominay doing much. Would be hopeless with Sir Alex too. And that's down to the lack of reinforcements. Maybe you can blame Ole for the lack of reinforcements, but after it being a trend year after year, I'm more inclined to blame Woodward on that. We need to get to a point with our squad that we are still a top 4 level starting team and squad regardless of manager in charge. I don't disagree with any of the sales weve made nor any of the purchases weve made with Ole there. Nor do I disagree with any of the players he's dropped (when all are fit). But until we sign players to fill the holes in the squad, we're going to have inconsistent games.

I'm all for the idea of moving Ole into the DoF role, as I genuinely believe he knows what it takes to build a successful football team. But his clear lack of tactical nouse and suspect in-game management are leaving him exposed right now.

He looked utterly clueless sat on the bench this afternoon, no idea how to remedy the problems on the pitch. The same dumbstruck face that Jose wore throughout his final year at the club, and LVG before him. We've reached the stage now where no one looks capable of getting this squad of players to perform to an acceptable standard.

We can sack Ole, sure, but then we're faced with the all too familiar problem of replacing him with a suitable candidate. As to who that might be, I haven't the feintest idea. I genuinely believe you could bring Saint Pep in tomorrow and he couldn't get this squad of primmadonnas performing well.
Yep, agree with all that. I don’t think there is a quick fix for this mess. We’re essentially being fecked by the transfer window by having to wait until June every year to sign players at inflated prices because it’s the only time of the fecking year we can do business.

Sacking Solskjaer won’t solve anything and I also don’t believe any manager can get anything coherent out of this squad, hence the reason Solskjaer is throwing 6 reserve players into matches, because we’ve got nothing else to lose at this point.

Hard enough as it is with the cretins we have playing for us but my god, we make it harder for ourselves by hiring such an amateur.
I totally agree to the above, I call this a badly managed club from the top all way down to the players!!!!

After seeing the same shite every summer, I'm not entirely sure it is Ole's fault. I mean it took until the last week of the window to sign Maguire, a player who the previous manager was desperate for (but ignored), and then we all knew all summer we would go for him. So is that Ole's fault? Or Woodwards and the Glazers?

Lack of investment is a valid excuse if you're third and can keep up with city.

Being midtable while being beaten by relegation teams arent.

We lost against west ham, not only that many predicted a loss even before the match. West fecking ham whose whole squad probably cost less than pogba

Even during last years terrible start, we scored 27 goals in those 17 or 18 games - conceded the same amount which contributed to Jose's down fall. 16 in 17 is inexcusable. The only teams to have scored fewer goals than us this season are Sheffield United and those sitting at lower than 11th.

Do you believe Ole is the only man for this job and no other manager could do better? I'm sure there are plenty of other candidates that could do better than a manager who failed at his first and only PL job before he moved to Molde.

It's another reason why we need to get a sporting director. To appoint the right manager and not a guy just because he is a fans' favourite.

If it was up to me I'd be taking a hard look at the obvious choice in Poch, who is looking like he's taken Spurs as far as he can, otherwise leave it for a competent sporting director to decide.
No I don't believe Ole is the only man for the job, nor the right man. The problem is, I genuinely do not know who could take on this squad and get them to perform to an acceptable standard (besides SAF of course). We may need to accept that our squad is performing to the best of its ability and no manager short of God is going to improve them.

Poch is struggling to get a tune out of his own players right now, the CL finalists from last season no less, asking him to step in and motivate the likes of Matic, Young, Periera, Mata, Lingard, ect no less of a risk than sticking with Ole.

How does a manager let it get to this? Like seriously, how? :houllier:

Squad is left to it's bear bones, it's just simple unacceptable. Especially relying on Mata, Matic, Young.

I've said it for years, our youngsters are way too inconsistent with mediocre senior players. How did Ole not plan a lot earlier to have a better transition.

Not good enough.

I didn't see Ole on the pitch today. You think he instructed them to give the ball away, stand still and back off their players?
No but he is responsible for the team selection/tactics/formation. Failing to change the formation in any game when the result is not going our way, failing to bring subs on earlier to make a difference. What happened to this high energy and pressing system he was going to implement. After all according to him the players just needed to be fitter, that was the excuse given for the dreadful run at the back end of last season. I see zero improvement in this team.

Exactly, you can blame him for anything but not for the transfers. It's not his job and what does confidence in getting a striker mean anything. It was Ed's job to bring in one.

Oh you cant always blame them for everything. Tell me our squad with a 200m defence cant keep at least a clean sheet against west ham

Looks like all of our top 6 rivals are going to end up losing this weekend. Do we, as outsiders, think that they should all be firing their managers? Genuine question.

I mean none of them have looked better than United have so far this season, and none of them are down to the bare bones in the same way we were today. They all spent money in the summer, apart from Lampard.

Should they be fired? I'm curious to see whether our high standards of what coaches should be achieving are only based on United or consistent across the board.

While Ed and the Glazers are around it will be a struggle. They just don't want to give up any of the power regarding football decisions.
And this is why I'm surprised our fans are in the Ole thread. What will it take for these guys to realise that it is the board who is the biggest concern!!!

7th in the league, I’d say that’s bang on the money for where we’re at this season.
See, we’ve had the better chances in every game we’ve played this season and no-one else bar City and Liverpool can say that. I’m not even sure those two can say that. It’s just our opponents have been more clinical than you’d expect, De Gea flaky and our players have fluffed their lines. We’ve not been close to outplayed once.

It's alright saying did Ole ask them to lose the ball, so do other managers ask their players to control the ball.

There is an element from Ed and the Glazers of course. But come on, if you’re Ole you bang the door down to bring in a Llorente on deadline day, you bring someone in, not just trust the likes of Rashy

All those calling for Ole's head, what would you have done differently today? The squad is utterly unbalanced and full of players who won't take the initiative and force something. Our bench had very few options today.

Our summer transfers, while useful, were nowhere near extensive enough. We STILL don't have a DoF to help with recruitment (I don't think they have any intention of getting one).

You could put anyone in charge and they're stuck with the same squad for at least the next 18 months while we gradually get round to renewing the key areas.
I'd have said to Woodward if you sell Lukaku and don't let me replace him then I'm walking.

He's been chucked under a bus.

Well they did with Mandzukic but fell through over wage demands, Ole plays no part in that aspect.

Ole picks the team so if the same players time and time again turn to shit and dont perform then he as the manager has to resolve that. It's the same players performing well each game AWB, James, McTom and the same players performing shite Mata, Periera, Matic.

Our defence was perfectly fine today and has been all season. Statistically we've been a very good defence all season with the lowest xG conceded. But when you cant score, then eventually you're going to concede screamers or the odd chance they do get (like west ham today scoring 2 from very very little).

I honestly can't believe people are on his back when he went into this game without Martial, Pogba, Shaw & Greenwood and then Rashford goes off injured.

Do you really think Ole didn't want extra midfielders or strikers in the transfer window?

How can anyone expect Ole to win with the players available to him today.
Was this your thoughts as well against Wolves and Crystal Palace earlier this month?

You’re telling me Ole had striker transfer targets and he didn’t get them? Come on. He’s not said or done anything to suggest that, or even hint towards that. He was happy for Lukaku to be flogged and didn’t have any plans to bring a striker in. He felt content with martial, Rashford Greenwoodand already it’s spectacularly backfired.

Well there was so much talk for so many players over the whole window, midfielders and attackers. Yet we signed nobody in midfield and only James as a young winger on the cheap.

Mourinho also didn't get the players he wanted, many managers don't. Mourinho was still deemed to have not been good enough, despite doing far better than Ole has for us so far. One was happily sacked and the other is having a million and one excuses made for him due to his status with us. All this sentimentality is part of the reason we are as fecked as we are. This club isn't ruthless enough.

He simply isn't good enough, it's a seperate issue from the board. The board are also shite, but Ole isn't good enough. We have been fecking rubbish since the PSG game. Like embarrassingly poor. The lack of investment excuse would make sense if people were expecting us to genuinely compete, not when you are losing to mid-table/relegation teams.

Lampard has had far more difficult circumstances and has got Chelsea playing better football.
