I hate to admit it, but The Sun might have a half-decent idea here. Giuseppe Rossi is a free agent and therefore closed windows mean nothing. I realise he's not "the answer" long-term but he does have a knack of scoring goals and is as close to a "goal predator" as you can get for nothing. It sounds depserate, but I think desperate times call for desperate measures.

Thoughts?

Next 4 months is a write off. Get into January, overpay and get some players in.

Greenwood is back shortly and will get the chance to play through the middle.

No.

We must focus on buying quality. Even if that means the squad being thin in the short term.

We are not signing anyone in January.

We will sign players next season along with selling Pogba, net spend around £60-70m.

Is that even a real thing? Can teams just sign free agents outside of transfer windows? If that's possible then why can't two teams willing to do business just agree on releasing a player to free agency and the other team sign him as free agent?

Isnt Ben arfa a free agent, would still have him on the right over lingard, he at least has moments of brilliance in him compared to lingard's constant average to poor performances

Not for me personally, if I had my choice, try and hang on till January still in some sort of half decent position.

I can't see us spending more than 50M in January at the most, you would think Madison and Sancho are earmarked for the summer, we might go after a CM but I would personally offer money for Callum Wilson at Bournemouth, have Greenwood as his back up, have Rashford/Martial/James/Lingard fight over the two winger positions and bite the bullet and play Gomes as a 10 until the summer.

It would be desperate, but i don't think we are quite that desperate to sign someone like Rossi just yet.

Get Carrick and Ole out of retirement while at it.

Because money would change hands at some point and at that moment the transfer would no longer a free agent thing.

I think.

I think it s better if we start looking for a decent reinforcements in January and make use more of the kids from now till then.

Because the player needs to be registered as a free agent before the closing of the transfer window for other clubs to sign him as a free agent

There are many ways to work that out though. For example, a player swap deal would not involve any cash. Or player paying off his contract. Or cash exchanging hands only when the window opens.

In my opinion we should get

AMC: Dani Olmo - he'll probably be available at 40m. He's quite quality with the ball and he can also play as RW.
AML: Ryan Fraser - 20m He's on his last year of contract. Although a LW he's right footed which means that he probably can do the job as RW as well. Thanks to him and James we'll be able to play Martial upfront on a full time basis, relegating Rashford to squad player's status
CM: Declan Rice - That's going to be expensive but it would be worth it. God knows how much we need mobility and good old fashioned bite in that midfield of ours.

My team after January

----------------DDG---------------
AWB-------Maguire---Lindelof--------Shaw

----------------Rice----------------------
---------Fred----------Pogba-----------

Olmo-------------------------------Fraser/James

----------------Martial------------------------------

Hopefully that's enough for top 4

Dani Olmo and Hakim Ziyech would be available. Although we may have to pay a bit over the odds to get them in January.

de Gea
Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
McTominay Pogba
Ziyech Olmo James
Martial
Digne, Ndidi, Sancho and a back-up centre forward in the summer.

I see. So if Zlatan becomes a free agent right now, we couldn't just sign him?
