The scary thing is when Solskjaer left Molde for Cardiff, Molde were at the bottom of the league in Norway with pretty much the best squad out of all the teams.
I don't think Manchester United will get relegated, but saying that, there is no such thing as being "to good" to get relegated.

Could Leicester win the Premier League? 99.9% said no, but we saw what happened.

Nah. Big Sam or Toni Pullis could come to the rescue. The appeal of our club is still huge so I don't think we'll have any problem with breaking the contract of Toni.

To everyone who says we cannot get relegated:

1. "We are too big a club to miss out on top "
2. "We can get any player"
3. Leicester won the league when many people thought it couldn't happen.

What makes us immune to relegation? It is clear a crap manager can get you relegated and a decent manager can get you into top 4.

We are in a relegation fight as it stands, I say this because our upcoming fixtures are a free run V Liverpool then with teams around us in Brighton and Bournemouth. Lose all 3 and we are in a relegation fight, some of you may not believe it but it is happening under Ole.

Could we get relegated ?
Yes.
Will we ?
No.
Yep. Agree with this. At the moment, I cannot see us winning games, that's the worry. We haven't any goals in the team. It will take a spectacular effort, or a dodgy decision to go our way.. an own goal..or something like that to get us going.

But, I doubt if there is a team in the Premier League right now, who do not justifiably feel that they could turn us over. As I mentioned in another forum, I just have an odd feeling about the Liverpool game... (well, I did yesterday...)

Let's stop this right now. Of course we won't be relegated or even close. We could easily be mid-table non-entities, which is shameful in of itself.

Fair play if you truely believe we'll finish 3rd, I'm just not sure you do.

Bare in mind there's never been a manager in history who's turned things around this dramatically. Something like a 17% win rate. When things are this bad, it always ends up one way and thats the sack.
To be honest I don't know, but I still think we'll finish closer to 3rd/4th than being relegated.

I've mentioned two Managers in the other 'trending' thread, don't know what their win % was but the majority of their fans wanted them out, yet within 18 months both had won the League at a time when Liverpool were dominating(see the History channel), and European success followed shortly afterwards, so it can happen.

Looking at the next 5 games and taking into consideration we can’t win away from home I think we could very well dip our toes into that zone before we turn it around so that will be fun times on here.

But no we won’t end up being relegated.

Just because it isn't probable does not mean it can't happen. If Leicester can win the league then in our current state we can get relegated.

A few serious injuries and a lack of January business (not that unlikely) and who knows. I'd personally bet on around 8th place though.

"Could" doesn't mean "likely". Just because I believe something has a chance of happening doesn't mean I'm willing to risk money on it.
If you are sure you are correct it is free money. Appreciate some people can't afford to lose x pounds. Just interesting that nobody ever puts money where their mouth is on this stuff- often people that bet otherwise

Yes, but even a lot of these 1-0 or 2-0 games, we haven't really been in most of them. We have a strong defense but we can't really do much going forward so teams are playing us smart and not going all out to beat us. It's not needed.
It's fine margins though, if Maguire scores on the stroke of half-time yesterday, and lets be honest it was harder to miss, the Newcastle crowd who were eerily quiet for them would have almost certainly turned on the team and there would probably have been no way back for them, and you could say similar about 90% of our negative results since the PSG match, a lucky break here a lucky break there and our position is a lot more rosy, now if we were getting beat 2-0 or 3-0 regularly.....

I think it’s the only thing that might change anything at the club.

It needs a full reboot and relegation might just be the trigger.

Otherwise we are going to rinse and repeat the same shite for the next 20 years.

Yeah, relegation would be just the ticket. I now see why you chose that username.

The fans have gone as crackers as the board.

Whether anybody on here thinks we will or won't get relegated is irrelevant really. The fact that this question can be asked and not immediately be laughed down and have the thread closed is more telling than anything.

The absolute fecking state we have to be in for this to be a genuine question is shocking.

That's how i was picturing it. I don't think we will, but look at what confidence can do. It propelled a team like Leicester to win the Premier League not so long ago. Now, look at the other end of that spectrum where you are completely devoid of said confidence, and an equally absurd outcome could easily happen.

Correct, even thinking the 'unthinkable' tells its own story.

We were too good to go down in 1974, we were still telling ourselves that when Denis backed heeled that infamous goal, incidentally, it was not that game or that goal that sent us down, it was the previous 30 odd games!

We need Pogba and Martial back to have a half plausible team, as we don't have anyone who can replace them.

Why? What makes us so special, especially considering the state we've been in post SAF? Mourinho left Chelsea in the same position before he got the sack, and we went right after him, and then they won the league a year later with a new manager.

That's ridiculous.. i know for a fact that our football is rubbish! I cannot for the world of it understand what the problem is.. Why the hell are we so scared to get on the ball and make a few passes that actually makes sense and creates an opportunity. We just rally around without knowing where our next attack should come from. I'm a huge fan of Ole and really definitely want to see him win things but through time i have come to learn that his ideas are limited and only a good squad of players can help him do anything. I say this mainly because in the 26 years Sir Alex was here, he played with many squad that were incapable of creating goals yet they did. He created a mindset where in other teams in the league were frightened to play against us but now we are a laughing stock. We have no conviction, no passion. If anything, we deserve to get relegated or at least be there for a couple of weeks to really change things. Glazers have to sell, director of football must. Let our class of 92' be a part of the coaching staff, let them be an inspiration to this team of players because i literally don't see leaders on the pitch.

Not sure what point you're trying to make here. I'm not saying we're special. I'm saying that the club the size of Manchester United, with the funds at our disposal and the ambitions that we should have for a club of our stature, to be spoken of as a possible relegation candidates is absolutely absurd and ridiculous. We should not be in this state, and the fact that we are is criminal.

That's all I'm saying. Not sure what's hard to grasp about that.

Yes, but let's revisit this in a few months after the first FA Cup round where PL teams are included.

The form the team is in is downright wretched. The combination of lack of confidence and the quality of the midfield and attacking forwards are horrific.

If Ole and staff want to persist with a 4231, then they have to place Pogba as the 10/SS to have any chance of showing improvement and staying within the top half of the table.

McTominay and Matic should be the first choice double pivot with Pogba linking the play a little higher up the pitch. If Pogba continues to play as part of a double pivot, just the fact he's much closer to United's goal than opposition, every team in the PL will just mark Pogba out and dare United to fashion a goal without Pogba's influence.

In recent years when looking at possible relegation candidates, often when doing a pre-season prediction of who will go down I've thought that it could in theory be any three of 12-14 sides.

Usually I'd say the "top 6" or "big 6" had no chance of going down, maybe Everton too. Everyone outside of that, if things went as bad as they possibly could had a chance of being relegated.

Of course, some of those 12-14 sides were always more than others to face the drop, but I'd say we're amongst them now rather than being in that 6 club bracket who definitely can't. Everton in it now too so it's more 15-5, although Leicester probably make a 6th right now who won't, can't envisage them going down at all.

Of the 14, we're still one of the less likely if the not least likely of all but we're in there now in my opinion.

Funny you should ask that because I do, and it's four actually, but I can't say anything yet, Mums the word. Keep the faith.
 Come on man, don't yank his chain like that at a time like this, unless these 4 worldies were coming in to be managed by someone else it wouldn't matter anyway.

On the move..
If we're in the bottom half of the table by the new year we'll sack Ole, bring in one of the rotating mercenary managers, stabilise ourselves, give him a full season, sack him when it inevitably turns to shit and start the process all over again.
 :annoyed:

After Mourinho almost got then league champions Chelsea relegated, anything is possible.

Struggling to score goals, which we most definitely are right now, is often the defining factor behind a team getting relegated.

Think I'd actually like it. A proper purge. Let's torch the field, watch the parasites burn up and start again. We're like a mixture of Forest and Leeds, so playing them would say a lot about how fecking stupid the people who run clubs can be. A trio of formerly great institutions. Then we can start again.

We could get relegated if we have bad luck with injuries and Woodward doesn't decide to invest the necessary funds in January. I don't think we will get relegated. When the injured players players come back I think we will finish 8th to 10th.

In what way?

I've said earlier in this thread i don't think we'll get relegated. I think we'll be way clear of it by the end of the season. But the fact that the question can be asked, and be a relevant one, is the issue. There's no need for ME to be dramatic, our league position is pretty dramatic itself. I'm just commenting on that. That's the reality of the situation.

This manager is the equivalent of Bob Bradley, who was clueless at Swansea. Nice chap, but completely out of his depth.

Are we too big to go down: Of course not. Will we go down. No, as Solskjaar will have long been sacked.

Woodward summer of 2020 - we can do things in the market that no other club can.

Signs Sam Vokes on a 4 year deal.

It's disappointing, but I'm not as shocked as you are, because when you look at the situation then it's hardly surprising. We lack serious squad depth after the departure of our main striker and half our midfielders, some key players out injured, and the ones healthy are not performing. I'm not shocked, but more disappointed that Ole can't seem to turn things around and motivate the players again. When you look at the state of the club for the last six years its hardly surprising given how we've thrown money away recklessly at mediocrity.

Yeah, i would agree with all that. We seem to be on the same page here. Again, i'm not necessarily shocked by it, i just find the whole thing pretty appalling.

Genuinely think it's a possibility

Surely our league form since the PSG game would put us in the bottom 3? Can anyone confirm or deny this

What do you think?
Here is a really simple if slightly wordy answer to your proposition.

Back in 1989/90, when United were languishing in the bottom half of the table if you had told United fans that in less than three years the club would embark of 25 years of unbroken and unrivalled success at home and abroad they would have said that you were mad.

Then in 2012/13 after Sir Alex's departure, if you had told United fans that the club would, but for a few years of intermittent success, go on a virtual death spiral and look more like relegation candidates than title contenders, you would have said that person was mad.

However, both situations occurred just as I described them.

If we think for one minute that we cannot be relegated, my fear is that is the very thing that may relegate us in the end. The complacency that it cannot happen to us because we are better, have more money, more history and more prestige than anyone else. Newcastle, Norwich, Brighton, Villa et al are geared up for a relegation battle, because they are expecting it, but we are not. They expect to be fighting for their lives, but we think we are way too good to go down.

If it starts to get that bad for us, I doubt that our players will have a clue how to get themselves out of it.

Could we get relegated? Absolutely!
