If McTominay or Matic aren't fit, i'd like to see Garner play instead of Periera. If he does play it should be as a 10.

    Fred McTominay
    James-Periera-Rashford
    Martial

Going by Solskjaer's post match comments, McT can be fit for this. Will be a nice boost if he is.

I'm not really sure that's true.

Pereira isn't great but he at least resembles a PL footballer on occasion. There's always the chance he'll pop up with a goal or assist as well, however slim.

I'm struggling to remember the last time Matic made a positive contribution to a game, rather than being a total liability.
We're comparing Matic and Pereira to play as part of the midfield 2 behind the #10. Pereira doesn't resemble a premier league player there at all. Matic is slow and annoying on the ball but he still does a decent defensive job and at picking up the ball off defenders, which is the main thing.

I can't stand Matic but I'd play him if he's fit. At least he offers something resembling physical resistance to help out the defence. Albeit in a shite manner.

Is Scott back for this, getting over for my first game in ages, upsetting if he's missing

All I've seen of him in the last while is players running past him. I'm not sure there's any physical resistance left.

I don't think he'll start for United again though.

Matic is done. He didn't even come with our C-team to Kazakhstan. Would be surprised if we ever get to see him again, he doesn't even have a bench spot any more.

As for the game, I'm not feeling optimistic. Even though the first team got a full weeks rest, we won't blow Aston Villa away, especially with Pereira in midfield. We desperately need Mctomminay and Pogba back.

He exists, though. Imagine say, putting a garden shed there in front of the back 4. Maybe 2/100 times the opposition will hit the shed. Now, we don't even have a shed. It's just an open allotment.

I'd rather drop him and have a midfield 3 of Garner, Fred and Levitt. Make up for the lack of experience with an extra man in the middle.

Or play AWB as a DM. Hed suit that role anyway

Think Pereira will play. Garner/Levitt/Lingard played yesterday so I expect them on the bench.

Villa are poor. we are a bit of a bogey side to them. lose.. and I think it will be time for Ole to go. Arsenal have been brave maybe we should be too :(. that said, I'm going for a 3-0 win

Would rather see Tuanzebe in midfield than Pereira or Lingard.
He had a fairly quiet game vs Astana and should be able to play. We need someone in midfield that can defend and keep Grealish at arms length. Scott back would be a big boost of course. Think we can grind out a win here, somehow.

Ole on Tuanzebe giving him a headache
“He gives me another headache but it’s a good headache.”

Ole says Axel Tuanzebe’s return can only be a positive for Sunday's encounter with Aston Villa.

“Axel can do the team talk for us! He has done fantastic and he’s played for 90 minutes, after five minutes or 10 minutes against Sheffield United as well. We’ve got players coming back. We’ve suffered from injuries badly and now we’re getting more and more back that will only help us.”

“I think the performances of Brandon have been a big, big plus. And not just for him and me, but it's also [encouraging] for Ethan Laird and you could see that against Astana. He’s played with Brandon through the years and for me it’s also a big boost for Ethan.

“We’ve got many full-backs, we’ve got loads of them who compete, and I’ve been very pleased with Brandon. He scored a great goal [against Sheffield United]. Let’s see where we’re at but it’s great to have Luke play through 90 minutes. Let’s see what we do for Sunday.”

Ashely Young and Luke Shaw should not be automatic starters as long as Williams is fit. I'm sure Ole will use either in the big games over Williams but if he keeps his form I'd throw him into those as well.

Ole said maybe Villa for McTominay if not then Spurs. I hope Williams retains his starting spot and Young is kept on the bench.

Can't believe Mata still has admirers on here.
I don't like Mata at all and he shouldn't even be at the club but when the only other option is Lingard I will choose Mata everyday.

    Can't stand Lingard.

Williams should obviously be starting over Shaw or Young.

This should be an absolute banker of a win for us, and if it isn't I want Poch in before the sun rises on Monday.

Hoping to continue a run of decent scoring form. I said before the Sheffield United game that a draw would be decent if followed up beating villa and spurs.

Hoping for 3-1 and rashford martial to score again and keep confidence up.

I’ve achieved peak apathy. Whoever plays isn’t the issue, it’s whether they turn up or not and whether or not things go for them in the first 15 minutes. And even in the games where we somehow manage to turn it on for 10 minutes and come back from 2-0 down, the manager will find a way to lose 2 points with his bizarre subs. Any games we win are in spite of our ‘tactics’, which is a worrying trend.

It's going to be tough, they're better than us in midfield. I wouldn't be surprised if we're set up to cede possession and hit them on the counter.

This is getting ridiculous, even aston villa has a better midfield than us? Do you truly believe that?

    —————————-de Gea——————————
    Bissaka———Lindelof—Maguire—Williams
    ———————-Garner——-Fred———————
    —————————-Lingard—————————-
    James—————-Martial—————Rashford

of course, Lingard is a very bad option, but Pereira also doesn’t deserve a spot based on performance, and neither does Mata.

Certainly, if McTominay and Pogba can make it, they will both play instead of Garner and Lingard

Really looking forward to the match. Games with Villa are always decent affairs.
Just a shame that its a cr*ppy time slot but that's what the EL does I guess.
