You plainly haven't read the details of what has occured.

I have only read what is reported in the UK media so i have no idea whether it is true or not . I would not take the media as gospel but find it strangethat pretty much hwhenever a briton is suspected of anything abroad the media here instantly paints them as innocent .

Forgive me for waiting to get the full story before i make any judgements

The details that have emerged so far stink. It will.only get worse as the full story emerges. It isn't anything to with a nationalistic agenda

There are loads of UK citizens getting sent to prison in other countries every year, you hear very little about the
vast majority of these cases. The few cases you hear about in the media are the dodgy ones, that’s why they’re reported! Try to be objective.

Imo lying about being raped is as morally wrong as rape itself. Even being accused when innocent can ruin a person's life as the stigma hangs over them.

That being said, I don't know anything about this case or what the truth is.
Morally wrong is the keyword here, no?

If you were saying, it has the same mental, physical and emotional impact, then you're wrong but "morally wrong" is hardly absurd.

I mean all crimes are morally wrong.

Honestly don’t know what to make of this as some people say that there is a video where she is having consensual sex with several guys and gets angry when she realises she’s being filmed so decided to protect her rep by crying rape.

But on the other hand some people are saying she was having sex with one or two guys but then the others came in and raped her.

Obviously it doesn’t matter if she was having sex with 11 guys consensually and a 12th came and forced himself its rape and the others that didn’t stop it or help are also guilty of something.

At the same time I know fake rape claims exist but also hardcore Zionist are very racist, their comment when meeting their families at the airport “the Brit’s a whore” saws a lot. Most people wouldn’t speak like that infront of their mothers etc so it shows how they view other people

Being falsely accused of rape... ruins lives, those accused often lose their jobs/uni places, lose their friends, become outcasts, maybe get attacked physically, and if not who knows what it does to an innocent men when people call them “rapist scum” and treat the like leepers. False rape accusations are not only morally wrong, they are also a crime often punishable by time in jail in the UK

Yeah, my point is its not as if @pocco said false rape accusations is as bad as rape itself.

Both are morally wrong and are disgusting crimes, regardless.

I agree with @pocco on how bad of a crime accusing someone of rape is.

Very few rape accusation are false but the few false validations often invalidate many genuine cases.

Think of being raped and not getting justice because of some disgusting person falsely accusing another later to be found out.

Believe me, no one here is surprised that you'd agree with such a stupid option as poccos.

The reports say she was having consensual sex with one guy, then the others came in, filmed it, then pinned her down and raped her.

I’ve mentioned both reports the one that says what you said and the ones that says she had consensual sex with several guys and got angry when she realised she was filmed.

I don’t know which one is the truth.

I haven't seen a report saying she had consensual sex with several guys. Even in the Sun's horrific write up of the case.

Naturally the Cypriot and Israeli Media will report differently.

I say do a Falkland’s thing of Cyprus. Send your SAS and whatnot and clean house. Smells of cover up to protect their precious relationship with Israel, which is stupid because rape is a crime in Israel as well.

Tbf. The two ladies that got caught attempting to smuggle class A drugs in Peru ... anyone would have thought they were facing 10 years in jail for forgetting to tip a waiter.

The people hearing about one false rape accusation, only to turn around and doubt anyone claiming to have been raped are fecking shitbrains and should be barred from having opinions.

Less than 2% of rapists in the UK are even prosecuted, let alone convicted, according to Home Office figures, but the real crime here is the extremely rare incidence of fake rape accusations.

That's not really surprising though when you consider the evidential difficulty in most rape cases and the question of consent. Stranger rape is very rare, much like stranger murders. With rape you're normally looking at a dispute over consent between people who have been in a relationship of some sort and know one another. To convict beyond reasonable doubt, one word v another, can be hard going. Especially without any decent supplemental evidence. You're often asking the jury to make a subjective decision on who the believe and if any element of doubt exists they must say not guilty.

Its a Briton abroad she is clearly telling the truth while those terrible foriegners are lying
That's just daft isn't it? Silly comment. The irony being there's every chance she's been treated as she has been because she's in fact a terrible foreigner in Cyprus.

I can imagine that trying to get a conviction is very difficult, the figures certainly bear that out, but to the layman (or surely anyone tbh), less than 2% of allegations being acted on does sound low, whichever way you look at it.

Not one post even implied what you’re inferring. Give it a rest please.

I replied to a post saying no one should doubt a rape claim which is wrong in so many ways .

The only people to blame for people ever doubting such a claim are the one who have lied about it sad but true .

I don't know if this one is true or not neither does anyone here as we don't know the facts .

Oh, you're one of the brokebrains who thinks women lying about rape is a huge problem.

Yeah when did i say that ?

Again we dont know the full story so it is idiotic to go off on what the media say.

Again we dont know the full story so it is idiotic to go off on what the media say.
The case against the student hinged on a statement retracting her original accusation, signed after hours of questioning by detectives in a police station that was neither recorded nor attended by a lawyer. She said in court that the police had forced her to change her story, telling the judge she was “scared for my life”.
Among those called to testify was Dr Marios Matsakis, a prominent forensic pathologist who told the court he was entirely convinced “violence was exercised” during the alleged incident. Scratch marks and bruising on the teenager’s body were “consistent with rape having taken place”, he said.
The men, most of whom were about to enter the army as conscripts, were rounded up and remanded in custody. The woman revoked the criminal complaint weeks later, issuing a statement that changed her status from victim to suspect overnight. The alleged assailants were allowed to return home the next day, flying into Ben Gurion airport where they were greeted as heroes.

The defence team later described the confession, extracted after eight hours of police questioning, as the product of coercion. They argued its poor English and grammar made clear that the “highly educated” teenager had not written it.
Rights groups have described the trial – which was beset with frequent adjournments and unexpected twists – as a travesty of justice. Senior officials in Cyprus’s criminal justice system have also voiced objections, saying privately that the island’s attorney general should have dismissed court proceedings.
“This is certainly not the first case of rape in Cyprus and certainly not the first time that a rape complaint is ignored, but it also takes place at a very significant time when Cyprus is trying to reinvent its relationship with Israel both economically and as a partner in defence.”

As the race to tap gas deposits in the eastern Mediterranean has intensified in recent years, the partitioned island’s internationally recognised Greek Cypriot government has worked hard to forge ever better ties with Israel.

The protesters said Monday’s verdict also spoke of the desire of authorities to “look good” at a time when Cyprus’s police force is facing unprecedented scrutiny for a string of perceived failures, including in detecting a serial killer who has since admitted killing seven foreign women and girls on the island.

“There is no doubt that this young British woman is a victim of the need to seal that political friendship,” said Gregoriou. “She was an essential sacrifice. We have come to help her belatedly, but help her we will.”

We may truly never know what happened, it appears to be her word against 12 'assailants' but our first response really shouldnt be this.

I think that's misleading. Near enough all will be investigated but getting a conviction is totally different.

You should try making a point sometime without trying to insult the other person
I'd be more inclined to have a polite discussion with someone who didn't mischaracterise what I said. Twice.

I said that doubting someone based on someone else's lie is shitbrained, and what you took away from it was that I said that it's ok for someone to be falsely accused of rape, and that you should never doubt a rape accusation.

So you'll have to excuse me if my immediate reaction is to think you're an idiot.

Everyone's jumping on you here but i do see where you are coming from. Lying about rape can get a person sent to prison, ruin their life or cause them to commit suicide. Also it undermines legitimate rape cases. So yeah whilst the act of rape is worse than the actual lie itself... the consequences of said lie can be comparable.

The way I think about it is that if a lie can get someone sent to prison or ruin their life (drive them to suicide perhaps), would you not equate what that person has to go through with what the rape victim has to go through? Like it's not the lie itself being compared to rape but the consequences of it. I'd say the trauma of being falsely accused of rape is not so far removed from the trauma a rape victim goes through, and if you consider how bad the consequences can get if the falsely accused isn't exonerated then it's not that wild of an opinion.

I'd say it isn't even in the same universe it is so far removed. Trying to equate the two is a very male centric viewpoint.
