Change the line up. Counter quick with Williams and the forwards through Martial and pray our low block does the trick. 3-0

I hope we used a 4-3-3 in this game with Martial as a false 9. Greenwood and Rashford either side.

Matic has actually been playing OK, so with two others alongside him in Pereira and Fred we might do quite well.

Matic, Pereira, Fred vs De Bruyne, Rodri & Silva - Incredible

Williams has to start but he wont.

Always look forward to this fixture though as I think they are tailor made for our only offensive weapon.

    Update on Harry Maguire's fitness
Here’s what Solskjaer has told MUTV:
It is a bit early yet. We are going to give him as much time as possible. He was hobbling about yesterday but there are still 36 hours to go do we will just wait with all of them. It is not a time to go out on the pitch and do lots of work anyway. We are going to do meetings and recovery work.
    On Martial and Lingard:
Yeah, we hope that everyone is going to be available but we don’t know, because some recover quicker from illnesses than others. So it is the same answer. We have just got to give them as much time as possible and a make a decision on the team in the morning.

    Solskjaer on injuries
Gonna give them as much time as we can, that’s the most correct and honest answer I can give, some of them are still not ready. If it was a game today not sure they could perform at their best but another 36 hrs until I give them the team.

How big a value is there to winning this comp?
You always want to win trophies and we’re so close now but having local derbies in semi final are hopefully gonna be two good games and two good days in Manchester.

    A two game strategy?
There are two games so we have to know when this game finishes it’s half time, still got to go to Etihad, finish the job off if we do well tomorrow. It’s a two-game tie but just focus on this one because three weeks until the next one.

Tiredness is a problem, what happened in 1999 to alleviate that?
Big games give you energy, give you the urge to go to the next level, above and beyond what you might be capable of in your head, sometimes you surprise yourself, there’s no way you can train in between, it’s about mental prep, good treatment with physios and staff and just hopefully remember what we did last time and what we must do better.

    On Jesse Lingard
Lingard gets spoken about a lot, a lot is negative, what’s your view of him and his position within your squad?
See, Jesse has had his ups and downs as I’ve spoken about before but against City and Tottenham, two games of examples of how important he can be for us in difficult games, we want him back scoring and making assists. No one who runs as much, great trigger in the pressing, lively bubbly character, I don’t think you see as much social media from Jesse as you used to. Got his head down and working hard and getting back to the Jesse I knew.

How is it a frustration you can’t get back to that City level?
We’re gonna aim for performances like that, two good days against Tottenham and City in a short spell but every game lives its own life, when you get highs like that I’m sure they will look back on it and that’s the Man United we wanna see but we can improve on that one.

    Different team selection?
The FA Cup was a bit of a a... they had Port Vale at home, he could rest a few, no matter what team he plays it’s gonna be a good team and we’ll put a strong team out.I can’t give you the team at the moment, we’ll keep the team until tomorrow because I don’t think the boys know who’s fit and available yet either.

Do you talk to the players about it?
It’s part of being a Manchester United player, how you come across and it’s important that you do give up yourself in a positive way and it’s football-related, I do speak to players about how they portray themselves. I don’t have these social media things but it’s a different generation.

City a different prospect after losing games recently?
They’re back winning games but form goes out the window when we play each other when you go on the local derby adrenaline and atmosphere and on any given day or game can change within a moment a ref’s decision, luck, injury, red card but we know they’re a top team. I admire Pep’s team, they’ve raised the bar so much since he came, standards set are something to aim for.

Norwich game far more important.. but this being the semis and City would mean we cant take it easy.

Same for City.. the league is gone. They'll go all out for the cups.

I cant pretend to care about the league cup..

No injuries and I'd be more than happy..
I agree Norwich is more important but would very much like us to give this a real go. Whether we have the legs and the quality in the squad at the moment to battle on two fronts in a week is another matter.

The fact he left Harry on when obviously struggling proved that. God knows who would buy Jones. We will be asking stupid money.
This is one of the reasons why I find it hard to understand why people think Ole is doing a great rebuilding job. He gives Jones a 4+1 contract then doesn't play him when it's obvious players like Maquire and Lindelof need a rest.

We are going to need to take a 2 goal lead to the Council House to have a decent chance of going through. Much will depend on the team they put out at OT. If they go full strength then they're likely to be going to their place leading or at least level.

Am hoping they go with Bravo, Cancello, Stones & Fernandinho at the back. Mendy & Angelino are both trash so wouldn't mind which of the 2 play. Would also probably need them to play D Silva & Jesus from the start. We could skin them on the break but it will be imperative that we take the majority of our chances. We can't afford to be as wasteful as we were in the recent league game.

I honestly don't believe Ole was responsible for that. I believe Woodward or the other guy who is responsible for contracts just do anything to keep an 'asset' on the books.

Why do football fans seem to suffer with such amnesia? Happens so often. Mental how many years the semi-finals have still been over 2 legs yet people are shocked to learn that this is.

This is going to be a tough game but i guess we should be up for this game because our home fans will do anything in their sleeves to make this a huge deal. We need to press them high and make them commit mistakes. City will usually keep the ball for longer periods but if we manage to man mark their midfielders and let them by-pass the midfield with long balls, we can win those first and second balls and try to counter. God how i wish we could keep more possession against them at home and irritate them because they're not used to playing without the ball and will constantly make mistakes under pressure. We can get a couple of goals and put pressure on them again at the Etihad.

Just gotta try and counter, hope for the best.

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Jones Shaw
    Fred Matic
    James Pereira Rashford
    Greenwood

Despite us doing well in these type of games this season, I think with the squad depletion we will struggle here - and I imagine Guardiola will have studied the last game to death and figured out a way to properly nullify our counter-attacks.

Can't see anything other than a City win.

I noticed that. If it was one game we might have more of a chance. I actually worry for us more at OT than at the Etihad.

No idea I was just following it on websites not on MUTV. Think Ole is very selective regarding what he wants to remember at times.
Also worth noting to be fair that in 99 we only played 3 games between Boxing Day and the 2nd weekend in Jan... and in those 3 games only Irwin, Keane, Butt and Giggs started all 3.

This year we play 5 games in the same period

Think the number of games is causing problems for a lot of clubs. This is what happens when TV rules and do not care for players welfare. I wonder if anybody knows how many PL teams have picked up new injuries during this time.

    One of those surprising stats.
Like hearing that the much heralded 93/94 United team - where everyone can recite the best 11 without a doubt, only actually played a tiny handful of games together!

Yep I agree. Would have been better to scrape past Leicester/Villa and then have a one-off game against them at Wembley.

City use their first team at home to Port Vale in the Fa Cup, definitely won’t be resting players against us.
    Not sure they did.
Bravo, Harwood-Bellis, Stones, Angelino and Foden are not first choice.
Though possibly a case could be made for Foden to be first choice.

But then Bernardo Jesus David Silva gundogan cancelo all played, would have expected a total rest and a lot more kids. But then actually I didn’t because it’s pep.

Peps first 11 is probably this right now.

    Ederson
    Walker Otamendi Fernandinho Mendy
    Rodri
    De Bruyne Silva
    Mahrez Aguero Sterling

Although Jesus could be first choice over Aguero after some decent form.
