He'd do feck all for United. He benefits from the abundance of creativity in this Ajax side, in which his runs and goalscoring abilities thrive. On his own though, he's not going to force anything.

Davy Klaassen Mk2 is harsh, so I'd say maybe Davy Klaassen Mk3.
Van de Beek can make the runs and Pogba can do the passing. Pogba needs to stay for that though.

But i do agree, without good passers his main quality (the off the ball runs and arriving in the box) wont be used with great effect.

Van de Beek is a much better player than Klaassen though.

Sadly to say, if 30 million is his value, the club would have to pay and extra 30 million for Elite club premium and inflation.

He will come to us for 50-55 million. Pretty much like Fred.
No way in these days of stupidly inflated prices is VdB worth just 30 million, 50-60 is far more likely. Lingard is probably worth 20-25 million at today's rates!

Yeah, agree with that, he's in a different league really. Just a case of all black strikers being called the new Drogba, Donny is the new Klaassen because of his haircolour.

Think Klaassen is going bald these days though.

Who was Mk2?
Ehh, I meant more in a way that, he's at least 2 steps above Klaassen instead of one.

He can play in midfield too. Played quite abit further forward due to Frenkie de Jong and Schone playing well together. But from what i've seen he can play the #6 #8 and #10 to varying degrees.

If he did sign, then i'm hoping we change to a 4-3-3 with Pogba the AM, VdB the box to box #8 and Soumare as the DM if we sign him.
Me too. I think our 4-2-3-1 is more due to a lack of personal rather then Ole's go to system.

At least this Ajax fan still understands the allure of playing for Man Utd.

We don't need reminding of all this in every single thread on the forum do we? That's what gets on people's nerves. I go and watch United (when I'm not working) so I'm actually paying money to sit through it - I'm well aware how things are and I'm desperate for it to change.

I'll have it that the world's best talent might not fancy United at the moment but you're being far too dramatic if you think we can't temp any good players in world football. Just feels like constant negativity on here and it's fecking boring.
Hear, hear mate.

We are never going to sign the Maddisons, harvetz or whomever in this window their clubs won't allow it unless we break British records. So it's either we seat on our hands or take slightly bigger gambles like Van de Beek or our next 5 months are going to be painful.

You can't compare VD Beek and Ziyech, so i don't understand the discussion at all. Two totally different players, except for the fact they both can play on 10.

If you want a hardworking passmaster with a lot of risk in his way of playing for the 10 position or as a false winger. Buy Ziyech.
If you want a 6, 8 or 10. Supersmart box to box midfielder. Buy VD Beek.
Why not both.

Sounds like Ander Herrera before joining United, in terms of versatility, except he scores more. Personally only seen the semi final against spurs where he looked good and scored a decent goal with a very composed finish.
I think he might be seen as the direct Herrera replacement. VdB also has a bigger goal threat like you've quite rightly pointed out, and at 22 would be a good signing to improve on several players in the team. I think we'll still go ahead and sign a more creative player in the summer too. So signing VdB does make sense and he's quite clearly better than Klaasen who some have unfairly compared him to. Dutch players also seem to settle well here and have a good grasp of the English language, so adaptation to new surroundings shouldn't be a big problem.

Mike Verweij who is the Ajax correspondent for De Telegraaf will be the one to listen to regarding VdB. And thus far he's stayed silent.

Good player, room to improve, technically sound, plays multiple positions.

So we won’t buy him

honestly him and Soumare could save our season and they can both be had for under £100m combined. If Ed and the board actually cared about where we finish in the league and cups, they would realise that’s a small price to pay.

To be honest, if we sign him I will get a bit excited. Despite the stats, I do think he's better than Klassen and he does have some really classy moments in the games I've watched whereas Klassen was just a straight clogger.

Good age, with scope for improvement and bags of experience for a 22 year old. I'd be chuffed to get him.

Despite the noises coming from reliable sources on this I would still like a number 10 on a loan deal or Soumare.

What’s the Dutch press said about this then?
Freek Jansen who is considered a reliable source in Holland has reported that United are keen on signing VdB. He also adds that Solksjaer is happy to wait until the summer to get him but would prefer to sign him in the current window.

Still waiting for the most reputable Ajax reporter Mike verweij to say something, but thus far, nothing.

I'm just alittle concerned that Beek is very much a system player. Someone who's game is so ingrained in the Ajax style that out of that system and thrown into our mixed bagged set-up he'd look half the player, abit like Kagawa.

Granted,on the opposite side he could also be the key to rejuvenate our play and bring a more cultured style to us but that sounds like quite a heavy burden for a guy who seems quite timid at the present time.

Hope this isn't a panic buy and United and Ole have done a fair amount of groundwork here.

ESPN, say Van de Beek says he will NOT leave this window.

Yeah I can't see us getting both in a million years but at least it would give us something in midfield

Looks like they are on the verge of bringing in Babel...i'm trying to find some narrative to stretch that into meaning Donny is leaving.

Makes too much sense for us. We don’t make these signings. Sigh.

FFS it takes us years to get shit done, these are deals that should have been done when the window opened. Rudder and clueless bunch we are.

That's because we have no plan. It's just instinctive BS. The fact that we were even going to try and go through this season with our current depth in midfield shows what an absolute joke our club is. We're the worst run club in the top flight in the world.

This is what I think. We have to be careful that we dont buy players for the sake of it. Players that we could be stuck with if it doesn't work out. So getting the right players in is obviously crucial.

In my opinion, VdB is a great all rounder and can cover a few positions. Exactly what we need and Soumare for me has been ver underrated on here as some kind of non creative, limited player when he really is much more than that.

We need 2 midfielders to add depth and quality to a very average midfield. We have Pogba, Fred and Mctominay. The rest are not worth mentioning. With these 2 would make it 5 for 3 positions (when playing 3 through the middle). And the #10 needing to be addressed in the summer. My guess is Madison being Oles favourite.

Babel will add squad depth and experience for us. Last weeks we didn't have wingers that go deep, with Promes and Neres injured and it cost us. Babel can play leftwinger and as a false 9.
Nothing to do with DVdB

After seeing so many rumoured signings slip away into nothing, I won't get excited about this until he is pictured holding up a shirt at Carrington.

Ah who am I kidding. Trousers down and full muppet ahead! Bring on the inevitable disappointment.
