Gutted if that is the case. Probably an unpopular opinion on here, but if the addition of Fernandes meant putting an end of interest in Maddison/Grealish, then I'd rather not get anyone in this window and buy one of Maddison/Grealish in the summer.
The only other way we possibly get both is Ole either changing his system or sticking with the 4231 and playing Fernandes in a double pivot. He has the engine to do so.
Every time I watch him (videos or actual matches), I can't help but feel like he would be a big flop in the premier league and not what we need. We're so understaffed in midfield that it's kind of like feck it, anyone will do, but I'm far from confident about it actually working out.
I think we can do both, not in the same window obviously, but I always half expected Grealish to spend alot of time on our RW if he comes. He used to be a winger in his early days IIRC, until he matured and became their main man and moved into the middle. Bruno will probably see more action as an 8 for us than 10 but we'll see. Grealish is the true Lingard/Mata replacement imo.

We will have a massive clearout by the looks of it, some youth players will leave, some older ones and squad players will go, Pogba possibly. We will need to buy quite a bit in the summer, i wouldnt disclose getting one of them in the summer. I think it is a realistic option going by what happened the last few weeks
I suppose Pogba hadn't been out for 5 months at that point and we weren't looking criminally short of creativity.
But he doesn't play as a pure 10 for Sporting. Actually, both he and Maddison play as number 8's in three man midfield. I just feel Fernandes has more of an engine than Maddison.

I don't doubt that we'll get more players in the summer. However, as I and others have said, unless Ole plans to change his system or converts one of them, we won't be spending massive amounts of two players that play the same position.
