This is where a DoF will help. I don’t disagree with Woodward not wanting to dish out an extra 20 million just because Sporting moved the goal post. But, I admonish him for the situation we are in again.
Woodward's fault because had United's management any brains they'd be negotiating for 2 or 3 attacking midfielders. Playing the other clubs off against each other. For example we could put a bid in for Atalanta's Josip Ilicic who can leave on a Bosman in 5 months. He's just about to turn 32. We can get 2 years out of him easily. Also Woodworm's fault that United don't have a DoF. His fault too that we noticed since he's been prattling on about it for 2 years.

To measure the reliability of the source. If an information directly from the club is not reliable then what is the reliable one?
I feel like you're missing the point, there are certain things that are reliable directly from the club. The price of another clubs player, is very unlikely to be one.

 After almost a month of the transfer window, NOW we are ready.
It’ll be done on deadline day and that will hide the incompetence of only getting one deal over the line. I hate this club so much right now.

Club, agents and other people. This isn't even something that happened for the first time, everytime we feck up a deal, we brief the journalists favoring club side.

This is exactly what happened, face saving exercise. Worst part is everyone knows this and don't fall for this gimmick anymore.
And you don’t believe what Simon Stones wrote?

What makes you think that way? It’s two clubs who did negotiation what can go worse other than the information from the club itself?

I'll be very surprised if this happens this late in the window. It just doesn't feel like we're willing to pay what they want. Ed's probably bluffing because of their financial issues and they're calling his bluff. I'm also surprised no other clubs have been seriously linked with him if he's such a talent.

Think about which clubs can afford him at £50m? Do any of those clubs really need Fernandes? Thats why noone else is interested.

Now as it goes we have left it this late so we can just miss out.

This situation reminds me of the Uma Thurman joke in Pulp Fiction - she wouldn't tell it because "it had been built up too much" after John Travolta kept on asking if she would tell it.

John Travolta said he wouldn't laugh if she told it - "that's what I'm afraid of !!"

God help us if it doesn't work out

Why would United want to brief the price of a player they're trying sign to the media? Especially if said price is deemed too expensive? It's an obvious PR tactic.

Jackson is absolutely useless. Disregard anything he says.
You know what, he gets some things right from time to time.

He was pretty much the only one who said we were in for Lukaku when everyone else was chasing the Morata story.

I wouldn't dismiss him completely. He's mentioned the Slimani loan again, hasn't he. Could be something there.

Actually I keep forgetting Slimani is still a Leicester player, isn't he...

Why would they help us out??

He is in the squad for todays game.

A sure sign it will be for saying goodbye to the fans!

Lets get on the tear-tracker.

Ornstein said don't be surprised if there's no transfers in January for us. Ornstein is normally solid as rock.
Not since he joined that mob Athletic or whatever they are called.

remember the rules that apply for a while now, one deal at a time, one deal a month. And always after the window opens we start bidding and doing something. The United way

I believe him when he says signing is close to completed, not everything he says which is nothing but what Woodward wants everyone to believe.
I can understand if you are referring to Sky Sports or some other sources like MEN. But it’s BBC.

The sport witness article that you posted is nothing but an article that try to make Ed or our club looks like the bad one here, the same goes to other article beside sport witness who also made an article to criticised Ed & Glazer for purpose to sell their story to viewers. I’m not defending them, I’m trying to tell you that Sporting also has good reasons to rise their price and not everything is Ed’s fault. What do we feckin know?

Your article has zero quote from the Sporting perspective that indicates what Sporting wants is 70m euro right now. The only quote in that article is that Sporting would accept 65m-70m euro last summer and if the 20m euro bonus from Spurs was reasonable, they would accept it.

However, that doesn’t mean Sporting can’t increase their price to 80m euro. Clubs tend to do this for many factors. One is because the transfer happens in January which the fees could get more expensive and another factor is to push the buyer to rise their offer to get closed to that 70m Euro. It’s common.

We absolutely have to get this deal over the line to give us any hopes of Top 4 this season. It befuddles me beyond belief how we didn't wrap this deal up weeks ago...

If we can get it done I think a midfield 3 of Fred, Pogba, and Bruno would be extremely exciting. A good combination of speed, power, and creativity with plenty of goalscoring to boot.

Would like to have had this agreed before their game tonight then he could do his goodbyes, however right now it looks very likely he could stay until the summer.

ok, believe whatever you want to. Simon Stone is the GOD, he speaks only truth not what Woodward wants him to publish.

There is no point continuing this as you can't look beyond "OMG that's BBC, Simon Stone, it's the club"

Apparently they'll ask for a £5m loan fee for about 4 months till the end of the season.
I mean, I know we're 14 points behind them, but I still can't see why they would give us a striker - we're still technically a threat to them.

You were not even reading my whole post. I can bet that for sure because you are missing the important bits.

You believe in an article that could be made up by sports witness and you don’t even take into consideration that Sporting Lisbon also has good reasons to increase the price, but you ignore it and you believe in anything that criticise Ed because that’s what you want to hear.

You really don't know what Sportwitness is, as simple as that.

Yeah tell me what it is then? I would like to know what convince you that much when there is zero quote to back up their ‘’Theory”. If you can answer that, I could be fall in love with them.

This is what worries me. A quality player available and we’re the only ones pursuing him?

Dude at least read the article, they have broken down everything from papers to interviews and how the numbers are changed.

They are just translators, they don't report any news as their own unless they get some interviews from one of those agents. They wrote that article, so it is made up by them which includes various reports from Portuguese media, consistent numbers, how Sporting owner interview was twisted, how Fletcher didn't even know basic numbers and how Spurs bid that was rejected was twisted into "price for Spurs was 45 million + addons".

Like I said, you won't change the mind as you are too much into "Tier 1" thing, so good luck believing all the propaganda nonsense by Woodward.

They translate foreign papers and calls out BS where people starting using "x foreign media reported this" when reality is x media use Sun as the source. They are excellent site to clean out BS during transfer window, especially for what's reported by Spanish, Portuguese, Italian media. They give clear picture of what's reported, what's the source for that article whether it's their own source or they are using English media as source who in turn used foreign media as source when in reality there is no starting point for particular news and papers like Sun, Mirror, Daily mail just randomly makes up "according to X media".
